Pros: Efficient, fun, and now... Lighter Cons: Small issue with derailluer hanger/derailleur compadability, but there is a quick fix.
This review is actually of the 2004 version of this bike, but as there is not yet a listing for the 2004 bike, I am putting it here. Last year specialized introduced their new “Brain” technology, and it turned the full suspension world on its head. ...
Pros: Fun, Efficient, and now lighter Cons: Small issue witht the derailleur, but there is a fix
Last year specialized introduced their new "Brain" technology, and it turned the full suspension world on its head. Until last year their were two complaints about full suspension bikes that all of the die-hard hard-tail racers would cling to, despite ...
Pros: The fantastic "brain" rear suspension Cons: Cost
Since two of the team at OneLessCar.org.uk ride the epic we felt it only appropriate to provide a review. The epic is the flagship full suspension cross country bike of the Specialized range and is available in a range of models stretching from the ...
Pros: Brain thinks for you! Cons: Brain is slow sometimes like yours!
Specialized has a sort of code or method to their madness for naming their bike. Here's the DL(down low). The comp is the second in their level of "good, better, best". From good to best it goes: Epic Epic comp Epic pro Epic S-works ...
EPIC DELIVERS THE HOLY GRAIL!!!! by trsst43 ,Jan 16 '04
Pros: Light, quick, fast, and PLUSH! Cons: some cheap parts( stem, seatpost), decent quality though.
If you haven't ridden one, you don't understand and therefore I have pity on you. The Epic is tettering on perfection. The brain takes guesswork out of suspension, just set your air pressure, fine tune with rebound, and you've got super stiff climbing and plush, plush descents. It's got the reflexes of a cat and corners like it's on rails. Do yourself a favor, get an epic. this bike inspires rides.... and confidence.
Pros: Light enough, climbs like no other bike, better than a hardtail. Cons: None
This bike climbs like no other. We have some real Pepsi challenge hills we climb that were hit or miss. Now they are defeated nearly every time by the "Epic". My friends got sick of me yelling out HOLY GRAIL! every time I would clean a particularly hard section of trail. This bike acts like it has traction control when climbing up lose rocks. Specialized is spot on with this design.
I too am 6'3" and am riding the large frame. My previous FSR was an XL. Ditto on the paint, it fooled me until I got home.
