Pros: Refined version of an already good unit. Excellent espresso, cappuccino, and American style coffee.
Cons: None, really. There is a 2-cup delay for grinder and dose adjustments to take effect.
October 2008 update: This machine has been 100% trouble-free. (My similar machine, the Saeco Vienna Deluxe, finally died after being repaired once.) It still looks brand-new.
------------------------- Original review:
An excellent full-automatic machine -- a refinement of the virtually identical Saeco Vienna Deluxe (see my review of that one), made by the same company. One of my few "negatives" about the Saeco unit was the loud grinder. This new Trevi unit is much quieter. It's still plastic all around. That's ok; plastic doesn't show fingerprints and doesn't affect reliability. The coffee-making operation sounds more "solid" than the Saeco unit.
The Trevi does need to be cleaned regularly; if you forget, the innards get all gooey and then you have to REALLY clean it. Cleaning is easy.
I recommend using water; distilled water makes better coffee and the machine will last forever.
We moved the 4-year-old Saeco unit to our home and use the Spidem Trevi at the office. It's still a great conversation piece. Most Americans have still never seen one. And the coffee is unsurpassed.
