Spring Air Back Supporter Mattress~Puts Support &Some Bounce On Your Bed~But Won't Prevent Surgery!

by ifif1938 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Apr 13 '07
Pros: Solid Firm support with a bit of spring...this model is called Carmel Valley.
Cons: hump in the middle of mattress between you and where your partner sleep.
Oh, my aching back or I can‘t get any sleep...How many times have you heard those words? I know I’ve said them at least a million times and now, with two back surgeries under my belt, so to speak, I still utter them occasionally but not for the ...

Spring Air Back Supporter???????????

Pros:

Looks comfy.

Cons:

PAINFUL AND CRIPPLING

Back Supporter - But not for long

by pmad , Sep 22 '02
Pros: Soft, comfortable, supportive - when new
Cons: Degrades quickly, forms deep valleys, robs us of good night's sleep
We purchased our mattress 8 years ago and regretted it after less than one year. We turned and flipped it regularly; but, the pillow top quickly settled into two deep valleys, on both sides.

Pros: The EXTREME COMFORT, SUPPORT & DURABILITY of this mattress make it a real winner.

Body Impressions after 9 months
by inasmuch ,Sep 20 '03
Pros: None
Cons: If you lie on it, it will sag
Do not buy this mattress! After just 9 months there is a very noticeable ridge between us down the middle of the bed. Rotating at this point is not correcting the problem. VERY DISAPPOINTED! We had deep body impressions after only 3 weeks
by cloudland ,Dec 22 '06
Pros: I can't think of a single one.
Cons: Bad body impression in pillow topper.
This was the biggest disappointment! We thought that because of the name brand and the large price tag that we were getting a quality mattress. Wrong! After only 3 weeks of sleeping on our new king size bed there were miserably deep body impressions on both sides of the bed. We exchanged it for a new one of a slightly different style and the exact same thing happened.
I would never recommend this mattress to anyone. We have had to suffer back pain and stiffness because we can't afford to throw this set away and go out and buy a new one.

Horrible Mattress!
by tylerjparker ,Sep 06 '09
Pros: None
Cons: Horrible back support
We have been sleeping on our Spring Air "Back Supporter" Mattress for a year and a half now.  Don't be fooled - it does not support your back AT ALL.  We wake up most mornings with back pain, probably because of the deep indentations under our rears.  We are not large people - 160 pounds and 110 pounds.  If we just look at our mattress without even laying on it, we see the deep indentations and the large hump between them.  There is no support going on here!

Spring Air Back Supporter
by poolgirlbob ,Jan 24 '04
Pros: None
Cons: Foam has no memory. Sides sag. Very uncomfortable.Do not purchase!!!!
We purchased this mattress in Sept. '03. By 12/03, we had valleys where our bodies lay. There were sagging spots on the sides, and a large hump in the middle. Our backs were killing us, and we awoke several times throughout the night to adjust and get comfortable. This week, the seller replaced our mattress with another, and when it arrived, there was a rise on one side of the bed, of at least 3-4 inches, where the top layer had actually separated from the bottom layer. We are frustrated and disgusted. We hope to return this type and purchase a different brand.

Nice, for a few months. Then, what back support?
by flyfsnbrad ,Jan 29 '04
Pros: Initial short lived comfort
Cons: Lack of back support, Poor durability
We bought a Back supporter millenia about a year ago. The first few months were very comfortable. We were looking for a new mattress primarily because My lower back had been bothering me on the older matterss we were sleeping on. My girlfriend really loved the matress, and to it's credit, still does. I wish I felt the same. Now I look foreward to the hotel beds I sleep on a few nights a week, because they are so much better for my back. After a few months the matress begen to sag in the areas we slept. I understand there will always be some sagging, but this is excessive. We have been very good about turning the mattress. I don't understand how they can call this a "back supporter". When lying down you butt sinks too far into the mattress seemingly creating an arch in my back and utter lack of "back support".

Our worst buy ever!
by imaybee ,Apr 23 '04
Pros: Appearance is very nice.
Cons: The quality and service is the pits.
We bought the SPRING AIR mattress from Boscov's,after 2 weeks use, there were big hollows each side.
I weigh 168lb and my wife 115lbs.Hardly what you would call HEAVY-WEIGHTS.
When we complained to Boscov's,they refered us to the manufacturer. The response was "the examiner would call back in 48 hours".
When the call finally came through,we were told that we have to wait another 3 weeks for the 'examiner' to come.
This speaks for itself!..If the examiner is busy that we have to wait 48 for a phone call, and then 3 weeks for him to come..HE MUST BE A VERY BUSY MAN,with so many complaints
that he cannot handle them.
We are suprised that a store like Boscov's would handle such inferior merchandise.
..SPRING AIR?..100% thumbs down.

Terrible!
by sydney440 ,Sep 16 '08
Pros: It's pretty?
Cons: Expensive, uncomfortable. There is no way to get a good night's sleep on this bed.

Husband has chronic acid reflux so Dr. reccommended adjustable bed. We purchased a dual control queen through local furniture store. We bought Spring Air Prestige mattresses for a whopping $1200..(that was in addition to the pricey cost of the base). The mattress is supposed to be soft but is more like sleeping on a slab of concrete. We've added both a foam and air pillowtop and they're still not comfortable. Unfortunately the store convinced us they would "soften up" so the exchange period came and went and now we're stuck with them. How I wish we'd just bought simple foam mattresses and put on the base. At least my wallet would be more comfortable.

Spring Air back support top of the line
by veaseyr ,Dec 08 '03
Pros: Sleeps good after you adjust's
Cons: To high
Okay people now. I know it's hard to believe everything you read, but I am one of the biggest skeptics there are. I slept on a Hibernation series full wave less waterbed for 20 years. Transitioning from the waterbed was murder the first week and haft. After that long of a period of laying on my side and the mattress totally giving in those bulgy spots made sleep ruff on the new bed.

I had a hard time sleeping anywhere else beside my waterbed unless it was super soft. My back, shoulder, and neck would kill me. But after a month now I would have say that this quite comfortable. My Wife had the same problem just not as long as I did. I now am loving how my mattress sleeps.

I've only had one problem with this set. It sit's way to high. The mattress sales man at Mattress King keeps saying that the haft height box spring will be in any day now. But we have heard from them after more than a Month now.

My Wife must climb

A word about Spring Air Mattress Back Supporter...it's a waste!
by rainbowbee ,May 19 '07
Pros: None.
Cons: We will have to find some spot to dump this thing.
I've looked all over the net for a forum, or some kind of consumer report site where I could give buyers a warning...
before they spend a GRAND on this heap!
I have the receipt in front of me...it was $1299.00

After only a couple of months, the Spring Air Back Supporter mattress SLUMPED and deformed terribly.
My guy and I are small people, I weigh 126 pounds, he weighs 160.
The reinforced spring edges around perimeter stay firm, the rest of the spring coils throughout mattress body sink with minor use.

There's no refund, they only offer to replace the piece of junk. AVOID this one!

And I thought it was just me....
by tyme42play ,Aug 17 '04
Pros: Feels great the first night - hope you have a good memory...
Cons: It's going to be one your last good nights on this mattress
About 5 years ago I bought a Spring Air Zero Gravity Back Support Mattress. The first nights sleep was the most comfortable night I've ever had - unfortunately this lasted only a very very short time.

I can't really remember when I stopped feeling like this was the most comfortable bed I've ever owned. There is such a sag in the center of the bed when both my husband and I are in it, I roll into the center - and he's not a big guy.

About a year ago it got so bad we put 2x4's between the mattress and box spring. That helped for a while but now even that's not working - I sleep on the floor every night - it's a hell of a lot more comfortable than that damn mattress.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!
by chwear ,Nov 15 '04
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Does not give the good support it claims and too expensive.
We purchased our king size Spring Air Back Supporter mattress in March of 2004 and should have sent it back before the 30 day trial period was up. We didn't because we thought we just hadn't had enough time to get used to it since we had been out of town for 10 days during that time. It was so highly recommended by the salesman at Penney's that we thought it must be great. Wrong!! It has very noticeable valleys where we lay and a big hump in the middle and we wake with back pain that we never experienced with our old mattress. After reading (too late) the many negative reviews, we realize that there is nothing we can do except try to sell the mattress for whatever we can get and purchase something else. Hopefully others will read these reviews before they make their purchase.

Spring Air Back Supporter Mattress
by bearmtn1 ,Jan 18 '06
Pros: none, so far.
Cons: Stated above.
We purchased this brand of mattress 4 months ago and within 3 months, there were 2 distinct "troughs" in the mattress and it felt like the only support came from the box springs. I notified the retailer we bought it from and he informed us that he will replace it. I only hope that the quality of the replacement is better than the original.

Best Ever
by jackson2jj ,Nov 12 '06
Pros: Best value in a mattress I have ever had.
Cons: A little high of the ground for me.
I have had my Spring Air Euro-top mattress now for almost 5 years and I have to say this is by far the best bed I have ever had. Prior to owning my Spring Air I had owned similar Sealy and a Serta beds and both of these were junk after only 3 years each. The first two or three months were great.I would get up in the morning feeling rested. But then I started sinking, when I roll over I roll back into the hole. This is why the sales person talked me out of the Tempur-Pedic Mattress she said it would ware you out from trying to get out of the hole ever time you turned over. Now I wake up with not only back pain but stiff all over. After reading some of the post here I don't have much hope of Spring Air doing the right thing with this 15 month young mattress.

Down in the Valley...
by luckylou ,Jun 07 '05
Pros: Soft and bendable
Cons: Rapid loss of support
Until I read the other reviews here I thought I may have had a lemon. Our mattress sagged pretty severely after the first six months. There are huge valleys wherever there isn't a direct support under it, which means everywhere but the edges and down the middle (due to the dual twin box springs that go under a king). My wife and I awake each morning in real pain. I keep forgetting to replace this because once I'm out of the house it's out of mind, but today I am up early due to pain and I won't forget! I have a pillow-top all-latex Glacier Back Supporter (ha!) model from the Bon Marché, now Macy's. The one good thing about this mattress is it's the only one that can be bent like a taco shell to fit up my stairs because it's made of latex = no springs. This bed feels so good when you try it in the store, too. Now I sit in the middle and from the side you can't see below my waist. I am an athletic 194 and my wife is 120 lbs.

deeply disappointed
by mipette ,Dec 27 '03
Pros: was ok for the first 6 months, cushy padding
Cons: SAG SAG SAG
I used a Spring Air back support for 4 1/2 years. After this time, it totally sagged in the middle, although the Queen size was just used by me ( ok, and the cat ) and I weigh 140 pounds.
I checked the warranty and it said in the fifth year, I can get 10 % of the buying price applied to a new spring air mattress. Man, was I ticked off. Why would I want to buy another piece of S*** like that one?
DO NOT BUY THIS MATTRESS you'll be sorry.

Horrible Mattress Horrible company
by aquba ,Feb 02 '07
Pros: NONE
Cons: BAD service from JC Penneys and Spring Air
I bought this mattress from JC Penneys Jan 2006 and now the damn thing has a 2.5 inch valley in the middle. I contacted JC Penneys and they contacted Spring Air. The Spring Air technician came out and said the mattress had some bad sagging. He noted 4 stains on the mattress and now they are denying warranty by claiming the warranty is voided by the stains. I am really mad about this so maybe a class action lawsuit against JC Penneys and Spring Air is the only way to get Spring Air to resolve their crappy mattresses.

Simmons Spring Air Lakewood
by denvrjd ,Oct 15 '06
Pros: Soft and comfortable if you lay on the edges.
Cons: If you sleep anywhere in the bed, it sinks in the middle.
Pillowtop Simmons Spring Air Lakewood model. I purchased the bed January 2004, and after a few months it was sinking in the middle. The man at the store told me those beds are very soft and that they are independent coils and some softeness is normal.

Every few months I rotate the mattress. But that doesnt help. I sleep on the left edge one night, the right edge another night but usually end up in the middle. It is very comfortable, but my hip and bottom area sink too low for comfort. I weigh 135 lbs and the darn bed still sinks. Ever since a few months after I bought it, I cannot have a partner in the bed, its much too uncomfortable.

I dont like anything about this bed. But Ive neglected to pursue the issue because I felt I have been too busy.

Never slept better
by plankinton81 ,May 19 '06
Pros: Comfort, support, and durability all in one!
Cons: None yet
I've owned a few mattresses in my day. The last mattress that I purchased was a Simmons Beautyrest. After only 8 months my wife and I could barely see each other because we both sank down so far that there was a mountain separating us. Simmons would not replace my set because they said that there was not a 2" dip on either side when no one was on it. I tossed the mattress in the dump and started over. After doing my research, I decided to try a Sealy and a Spring Air. When I compared the features and the comfort I chose the Spring Air. I felt it to be more comfortable and it cost alot less for the same features. I've owned this mattress for about 5 years now and I couldn't be more pleased. Its held up great and is still extremely comfortable. I'm not a small guy either (about 6' and 225lbs.) I would (and do) recommend this bed to anyone who is in the market for a new set!

Poor durability
by lfutrell ,Feb 17 '07
Pros: Comfortable for the first six months.
Cons: Does not wear well.
My husband and I purchased our Spring Air Back Supporter pillow top mattress approximately 2 years ago. The mattress has dips of approximately 2-3 inches where the pressure points of our bodies meet the mattress. We bought the mattress on clearance so it is not eligible to be replaced.

Spring Air Back Supporter
by bunjee66 ,Jun 23 '05
Pros: Great for the first couple of months.
Cons: Starts sagging after 2 months continues to get worse.
The mattress was very comfortable for the first couple of months and then started sagging. For the first 10 months it was just me using the bed and then when it became 2 of us, we would roll to the middle. The mattress has a 2" sag in the middle after only 1 yr. Still waiting for a response from the dealer on the warranty. Not worth the money or the back pain.

Update: Spring Air honored their warranty and the store I bought the mattress from (Today’s Bedroom One- thanks Stan) allowed me to purchase a different mattress.

Spring Air Spine Saver Platinum Mattress
by oxford007 ,Jul 11 '05
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: Sags in the middle. Too high. Regular sheets don't fit. Too expensive...
I saved up for a year to buy a new mattress set, and when I went to buy one, I wasn't going to walk out of the shop with a cheap-o, throwaway mattress. So I went with the Spring Air Spine Saver Platinum, which was more than I wanted to spend but I figured, hey, it should last me 10 years. Well, it didn't last me 10 MONTHS. About 2 months after buying it the mattress began to sag right in the middle. By month three, it looked like a fallen cake and I was having a tough time sleeping. FInally, after six months, I called the company and they sent a "bed inspector" out to have a look. The middle of the bed had dropped nearly FOUR inches!! So it was replaced. And now, three months later, this mattress is on its way out, too. I went to the mattress showroom today to see if I could get a credit and saw my bed in the store...with a "DISCONTINUED MODEL" sign on it. Not a big surprise there.

Wow. Same problem
by dtelvock ,Jun 26 '07
Pros: none
Cons: It is a waste of money.
I owned this mattress for 1 year and the middle started to sag. Now it is completely the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever owned. I cannot believe so many people have the same problem with this mattress and Spring Air still has the audacity to sell it and not accept warranties. Mine has a 10 year warranty. They won't even respond to me. They obviously know this mattress is a fluke.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS AND JC PENNEY
by ff-opinions ,Apr 19 '05
Pros: I have not found anything too wonderful about this product or the service.
Cons: Penney's call center is rude. Store Managers are useless in resolving problems.
We purchased a SpringAir Mattress from Penney's. After only 30 days the mattress needed to be replaced.
Reporting the problem required a 8 page questionaire requiring pictures. No picture can show a hard lump in the middle of the mattress.
We finally demanded that a representative come and look at the problem.
Spring Air agreed to replace both the mattress and springs.
They came today with the mattress but no new springs. Another call to the Penney's "Help" line and they stated they would need to do another delivery next week.
It appears that Penney's does not want to back the product that they sell as they immediately refer you back to the manufacturer and then you are on your own. If you buy and have a problem make sure you return the product within the 7 days that Penney's requires otherwise you are STUCK.

Spring Air Back Supporter
by daveandvalw ,Apr 19 '07
Pros: absolutely none!!!!!
Cons: terrible back support, wake up exhausted from lack of sleep and back pain
The Spring Air Back Supporter is the WORST mattress I've ever owned. I do NOT recommend this product at all! After sleeping on it for approximately 6 months, it developed a deep valley during the night. It is so bad that we have to grab the sides to pull ourselves up out of the valley to get out of bed. There is no rolling out of bed, you have to actually climb up and out which is very difficult for anyone. We have had Spring Air send an inspector out to do measurements of the deep hole but the conclusion was that it fell within the guidelines. There were parts of the mattress that were almost 1 1/2" deep. My husband and I are very dissatisfied with the customer service and this product. We paid $865.75 and after a year and a half of use, we can not sleep a full night on this mattress. We end up bailing out to seek sleep on the couch or a recliner. This is very upsetting that the company will do nothing about this problem. Now, we are stuck with an $856.75 mattress that is useless!

Spring Air Mattress, no support for back or product
by lomah ,Apr 02 '08
Pros: none
Cons: no support for back or product
Spring Air Infinity mattress, all foam no springs, salesman went on about the 20year warranty. Boscovs delivers it&set it up, Immediately noticed sinkhole developing in center, a valley that you roll into. Like sleeping on wet sponge or jello.
Filed a complaint at 10days. THEIR inspector says its my fault NO center support. What? they set it up! never said anything of this huge issue to them, under the bus you go. BS wrapped as a mattress, expected better. There will always be some issue to void any warranty, they wrote it. "Comfort issues" I'm on road half the month, hotel mattresses, do tell.
Court of public opinion like this site or youtube - video reviews. I found these and other review sites too late, This is the lowest rated of all mattress makers, Boscovs lost a customer for life like. if this was a one off problem they would accept it as a small loss.wrong. Center support? you wonder about the box spring? did it collapse in 7 days, what structure, what Quality-NOT. - a poor rush job. $1000 value, 20 years...only 19yrs 10mos 25days to go...

Worst mattress ive ever had
by goldendeal37 ,Jan 26 '08
Pros: Nothing
Cons: backache, not comfortable
This is by far the worst mattress ive ever owned... My spouse and I wake up daily with a backache. Back supporter?? I think not...it was a total waste of money ,2 weeks after I bought it, I couldn’t take the pain anymore and went out and bought a different brand of mattress. Since ive done a bit of research on Spring Air I now know the company has a history of unhappy customers. Backaches, poor quality construction, and the 10 year guarantee is worthless, you cant get them to call you back, the guarantee is basically a scam, do yourself a favor, DO NOT purchase a Spring Air Mattress no matter what the price or deal you think you might be getting, I guarantee you will have to buy another mattress in just a few days and spend all over again....How they stay in business is beyond me,,, stay away from spring air.

Spring Air King BEWARE
by thedude007 ,Jan 20 '09
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Poor support on your body.  Way to costly.
Like other reviews i too have a problem with this mattress. First, the none flip was a bad choice for this because the problem with this product is that you get uneven back support, and if you only turn the mattress you still have the same problem.  This is trouble for anyone who thinks they are paying for a top line product. You'll only waste your money.

by dekalake ,Oct 08 '06
Pros: feels good in the show room
Cons: no back support at all
Back breaker.Within 3 months my wife's hip went off line , she started to grind her teeth which required her to wear an appliance, my back is bent out of shape. We went on a 1 month trip to South America recently and stayed in 8 different hotels some were 5 star some 3 star , my wife's hip went back into place , she forgot her mouth piece,as it was she didn't need it and I had no back pain.Back home on our back supporter ( laugh)
we through it off and slept with the foams from our camper on top of the box spring. The store will replace it & they want us to try the air spring allegro , we 'll try it & see but we do not have much faith in their mattresses.

BEST MATTRESS FOR BACK SUPPORT
by sleepdeprived ,Jan 12 '04
Pros: Great back support. Very comfortable.
Cons: None
Believe me after two horrible Simmons Beautyrest mattress in 4 months, I am happy to say that the Spring Air Back Supporter Legends mattress from Haverty's is the greatest. It supports your back. There is no sagging, valleys, or hills, just a comfortable feeling. I am getting rid of my two month old KS Simmons Beautyrest Worldclass Plush (Don't ever buy a Simmons), and buying this mattress for my own use. This one I am writing about is my 3 year olds.

After 8 Months, NOT the Great Sleep I Thought
by rentonguy ,Aug 20 '07
Pros: Initially comfortable. Seemed to have good support at first.
Cons: Deteriorates very quickly. After 8 months, back pain every morning.
When this mattress was first delivered, I thought it was great. It was just slightly squishy for about the first inch and then firmed up, which made it seem like it was very comfortable with great support.

HOWEVER, less than 8 months later, I am waking up every morning with a sore back. That first "squishy inch" is now several and I can't seem to find the firmness under "that first inch" any more. When sitting on the side now, the mattresses depresses almost clear to the box spring. I'm the only one in the bed and weigh about 180 -- sure, I could stand to lose a couple pounds but certainly my weight isn't the cause of the deterioration of the mattress.

This is a TERRIBLE mattress and I regret purchasing it. I am now looking for a Sealy or Stearns and Foster.

DON'T BUY!!!!
by vina211 ,May 15 '07
Pros: None
Cons: Sinking mattress
I bought this Spring Air mattress because when I tried it out in the store it was the most comfortable mattress out of the rest. However, after buying and sleeping on it for about 6 months the mattress started sinking in the middle of the bed where I normally sleep. I've tried over the next 2 years to sleep close to the edge of the bed to "even out" the mattress but no such luck. It really was a waste of money. Now, only 2.5 years after my purchase I am shopping for a brand new mattress (NOT Spring Air Brand) because I cant sleep on a deeply sunken in mattress anymore.

BEST MATTRESS - SPRING AIR
by charlottewebbb ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: Best quality and value bed in America.
Cons: They are not available everywhere. They should be.
I bought the Back Supporter by Spring Air and have been VERY SATISFIED. My back feels healthy again. I feel well rested. I got the one with a Pillow Top. When I compared it to the Sealy and Simmons products, it was just better made. My friend has a TempurPedic and it stinks - I mean, it really smells. The Spring Air should last at least 10 years.

This product should be removed from the market!!
by ottawan ,Jan 03 '05
Pros: pretty, but comfortable for only 1year,
Cons: throw it away after a year,
We've had a Spring Air Back Supporter for just over a year now. My wife and I are average weight. For the first few months is was very comfortable, but then very quickly began to sag. Turning it over works for a night or two then it is proper hell on the back. I wish I had read all of the reviews listed here before I bought, because obviously I never would have.

When you look at their webpage, the first hint that this is a hoax is that they give no spring count and don't really show what they are using for springs. I'm tempted to tear it apart to see what its really made of but have
too much invested to do that.

I haven't tried to talk to the vendor yet, but lost my invoice when we moved and am not confident that they will replace it.

I strongly recommend against buying anything from this manufacturer!

Spring Air Mattress did not hold up
by bobkerry ,Jan 01 '08
Pros: Comfortable in the store
Cons: Didn't last a year
I bought a Model 1 D 01 40342 Queen with a pillow top in July 2006 for $530 at Bedmart in Tucson. Within six months it developed a deep trough where I sleep and my back aches in the morning. I am 6' tall and weigh 200 lb. and sleep alone. I am told the warranty doesn't cover such "settling" so I am stuck with this turkey. Worst thing I have purchased in a long time.

Pros: good warranty service.
Cons: not very supportive mattress
Initially the mattress felt dreamy. But I soon found that i was leaving a body impression - even within a month. Spring Air--all air
by tinyfeet ,Mar 28 '04
Pros: WAY SOFT--If you have back issues keep looking
Cons: No support--too expensive
I just bought a Spring Air Back Supporter, Haverty's calls it the "Augusta". I have had it for four days now and have a sore neck because it's so soft that I am sleeping in a bowl. I have a hard time even rolling over in it. I'm only 140 lbs. It's too soft! And the pillow top squishes down too much. The biggest problem is the edge of the mattress. It has the independent coils that are surrounded by a foam box. Well, if I sit in bed to read I have to sit almost in the middle so that I'm not leaning. It seems that it squashes down where the coils meet the foam. The foam and the coils do not squish at the same rate. Also, the thing is 14 1/4" tall so the 14 inch pocket sheets just barely fit.Buying the deep pocket sheets limits your choices of colors and price. I HATE this mattress. I got a kingsize and ripped off.

Adding one more CAUTION to the list
by my-pinions-pos ,Aug 21 '07
Pros: This is a beautiful, luxurious looking mattress
Cons: We have never felt so horrible in our lives!
Valleys form where you sleep, with a hump in the middle, which becomes the only soft spot. The foam top traps body heat horribly. My husband and I are both fairly light-weight (110 and 165 lbs)and both wake repeatedly in the night to re-position our bodies and have to stretch (and crack) our backs each morning. I have not had a decent night sleep in the year since sleeping on the Spring Air Back Supporter Carmel Valley - and I'm EXHAUSTED! It is affecting my attitude and daily life. This has been much more than I bargained for in a so-called high-quality product. I only hope my next $1,500 investment doesn't come with the same result. I'd rather sleep in a tent!

Not for those who need back support
by irishlady001 ,Mar 20 '09
Pros: Soft & pillowy - good for pressure points.
Cons: Does NOT support the back.
I have several problems I'm dealing with, such as shoulder and hip pain, plus back pain. I first bought an extremely firm bed, but couldn't sleep on it, so I bought the Spring Air Back Supporter Mattress (before reading reviews on it). While the pillowy feel was great for my hip & shoulder pain, it increased my back pain greatly.  I weigh 145, and my husband weights 195.  He couldn't sleep on it at all (too soft), and we just roll in towards the middle. After a month I returned the bed and bought a Simmons Plush Top Relaxation. It has a firmer feel, but not too firm. My back feels much better. I don't know why they call the Spring Air a "Back Supporter" because it does everything but support the back. Recommend you don't buy this bed. Also, it felt firmer in the store than the one we received at home.

Spring Air Back Supporter comfortable but smelly
by andrealeegrant ,May 24 '04
Pros: Firm, comfortable.
Cons: Still off-gassing chemicals after airing out for a month.
It's a good thing I bought this from a mattress store that allows for exchanges withing 3 months. It's going back. While the mattress is comfortable, it is emitting such strong chemicals that I have awaken with a headache, runny nose, and nausea. The mattress store sent me a second one, just in case the first was from a bad batch, but this one is just as bad - even after being aired out for a month. So beware - this is something I never considered when I was shopping for a mattress.

Spring Air mattress sets
by catluvr1 ,May 17 '09
Pros: Appears good quality
Reinforced edges and center of bed
Nice appearance
firm when new
Cons: Poor customer service
conditions have to be perfect before they honor any type of warrenty
Sagging quadrants
Prior to purchasing a Spring Air mattress and box frame for my 400 pound Log Cabin bed with reinforced frame (rail road type ties), I described my bed to the salesperson.  I was never told my frame was not supported by Spring Air.

After about 9 months of owning a Spring Air mattress I have chronic finger and lower extremity tingling and numbness whenever I lay on this mattress.  The customer service person at Spring Air voided my warrenty without any other assistance stating they did not support my bed frame.  I was told at purchase that if I did not by a mattress cover, Spring Air would void my warrenty.  According to Spring Air, I received a card with items that would void my warrenty.  Which makes my point:  Why would I purchase a 1000.00 product knowing my warrenty was voided on the spot?  This bed has very poor quality.  The four quadrants sag.  This bed cannot even support a 120 lb person.  Rude customer service gentleman.

Bed only good for first 6 months
by dahart23 ,May 04 '04
Pros: Very comfortable the first 3-6 months
Cons: After 6 months it falls apart and is worthless in 4 years.
I agree with several of the postings here and am glad to find out I am not alone. The bed started out very comfortable only to notice after a few months that the surface was quickly breaking down followed by the 5 "back zones". Now, after 4 years you can take the sheets off and see huge indentions in the mattress and we have a hill in between us. I weigh 158lbs and my wife is 115lbs and we rotated it precisely as directed in the instructions. We are to the point now where we both wake up with backaches and are not sleeping well because of it. I first contacted Spring Air after a year and they told me the body impressions were "normal". More recently, I wrote Spring Air a letter to see if they will do anything about it. It has been almost a week now so I will see if they will even respond. Unfortunatly about a $700 mistake for us.

Pros: VALUABLE LIFE LESSON on REsearching before buying
Cons: EVERYTHING,  GOOD LUCK TRYING TO SELL A USED POS    EVEN IF IT's WEEK OLD!!!

Save your money and your back!
by lisapayton ,Aug 26 '05
Pros: None
Cons: Lasts for a maximum of six months, not ten years. Company warranty is worthless.
This mattress is of very poor quality. It began to break down after about 6 months of normal sleeping patterns. The impressions from both my husband and myself are over 3" deep and getting deeper!! We are average sized people. (135 and 210 lbs.) Spring Air will not honor their warranty under any circumstances. Please heed my warning. I have not slept more than 30 minutes at one time for over nine months, have had to begin seeing a chiropractor regularly and even went to the emergency room with a pinched nerve in my shoulder so severe, I thought I was having a heart attack.I tried being nice, professional, understanding and offering to negotiate and then went to mean, nasty and threatening lawsuits (lack of sleep will change your demeanor) to try to get a replacement or my money back. Nothing works with this company.

Killer mattress sold by Mattress Giant
by xk38s ,Sep 03 '06
Pros: Are you joking?
Cons: fifteen words not enough; any attorney out there?
We bought our king size in 2002. Within a year my husband began to suffer arm, shoulder, neck pain. Went into therapy, almost had to go on disability before eventually ended up having major cervical disc repair last summer. During this same time I started with lower back pain that seemed to get worse on weekends, during summer when I wasn't working. I couldn't understand why staying in bed didn't seem to help. After checking with doctor after doctor no one could really explain why we seem to be having so many aches & pains in our early 50s. Forget sleeping, we filled our first prescription for sleeping pills about two years ago and they barely help.

It just dawned on us it could be the mattress which we regularly flipped & turned. In checking it out it is shot to s__t. No springs, box spring gone. God knows how long it's been like this. We're trying to return it now. I wish I had seen this site before we ever brought the thing home.

Wishing we had bought a King!
by charbroilpatty ,Apr 05 '08
Pros: Not too firm, not too soft, Lasted 1.5 years at least, Inexpensive
Cons: None
My husband has back problems due to sports injury and I like my bed super soft so a pillowtop back supporter was an excellent compromise.

We used our queen sized pillowtop Alexis, Back Supporter
1.5 years before buying an overpriced king memory foam monster just because the internet said they were sooo great (FYI if you live in the desert like us, where it's either wicked cold or wicked hot, you either sink to the bottom of the bed or you feel like your sleeping on a rock, which makes no one happy. . . .)

Sometimes we sleep in the guest room when we can't take it anymore. We haven't noticed any lumping but both of us are light-average weight. Also, our guests who slept on the spring air always make sure to tell us how great it was in the morning as we rub our backs in agony.

This weekend, we plan to go around town trying to find a king version. We can't stand sleeping on our sinker that we spent 3 x the $$$ and for not even half the comfort.

We had slept on a Spring -Air at a friends house and liked it very much...We even drove out of town to purchase it, as no one here carried them-- the initial purchase was almost $800,for queen ...We rigorously flipped and turned as required and also had the center-support frame......after 4 years we both wake up with severe back pain..Some times hubby sleeps in the other room (we both snore) and noticed he did not have any pain after sleeping in the other bed..We went back to the store, the same chain has opened a store here in town, and were told that they could not do anything -- that we had to drive back to the original store...This thing has a 10 year warranty and we will drive back to the original store to hopefully get something done... we are anticipating a hassle, after reading some of the other reviews.
I dont recommend Spring-Air mattresses at all.

Don't buy Spring Air Mattresses
by cartom ,Jan 10 '08
Pros: Not a single one
Cons: Poor quality, poor customer service, nonextistent warranty
Unlike most people, the Spring Air company did find that we were eligible for a new mattress because it is sagging so badly. I called 3 Spring Air factories before anyone would claim to be the service provider for New Mexico. Now the problem lies with actually getting the mattress replaced. First, they wanted us to "swing by the Phoenix factory" and pick it up out king size mattress. That is a 7 hour drive for us. Next, they wanted to know if we had friends with a loading dock that they could deliver it to. We don't have friends with a loading dock. We have called the factory numerous times and have been told that they would call us right back. They have NEVER called back. We even got in touch with the local rep..he doesn't call back either. Managers are ALWAYS in a meeting, out on an emergency, etc. etc. Today they left me on hold for 30 minutes before transferring me to a dead mailbox with no explanation. If you buy Spring Air, you WILL need the warranty...but you Won't be able to use it.

Worst Mattress Company out there
by jpporter ,Jul 07 '08
Pros: Looks nice, was soft in the store...
Cons: May as well have bought two hammocks instead.
We bought this a JC Penney Home store. We initially bought the Meadow Vista back supporter. After a few days it started sagging. JC Penneys had a 30 day try-out policy, so we assumed it was defective and returned it. The down side of their "Try-out" is that you have to return it for a bed of equal or greater value. We ended up with 2-3 options since the Meadow Vista was already fairly expensive. We choose another spring Air "Sterling" mattress as in the store it was a firmer mattress then the Meadow Vista (and of course was more expensive $1400).

Within a month it began to sag (JC Penney only allows for one return). We called in Spring Air support and were told there must be at least 3 inch depression before it is considered defective.

We continue to use it. It sags more everyday. We are days away from buying a new mattress after 1.5 years.

Just throwing away $1400 is a horrible feeling. The only place for it is the trash as I wouldn't wish this thing on anyone.

Terrible mattress
by shoover2 ,Jun 10 '06
Pros: No pros
Cons: Worst mattress I've ever had. Big dip in center can only sleep on one side.
I bought a Spring Air Melody Queen Mattress set one and a half years ago. I've turned it every 6 months. There is a dip of about 2 inches and 16X19. You can only sleep on one side because from the other side, you roll into the center of the bed. I've had at least a dozen mattresses in my lifetime and this is the worst one I've ever had. I'd love to throw it out and get a new one but can't afford to do that.

Buyer Beware!
by hackabelle ,Mar 02 '08
Pros: It was great for 2 years and the box spring is OK
Cons: Only lasted 2 years. Not worth the money. Cannot flip.
I purchased this queen mattress in 2003 for about $900 and it lost all support in less than 3 years(two huge body prints and a ledge down the middle). I am only 120 pounds and my husband is 155 pounds. The 10 year warranty is bogus. They will only 'repair' (Not replace) the mattress with a delivery charge ($59.00) and no replacement to sleep on while it is being repaired (sleepless nights on the couch). The 'repair' only lasted 3 months, then the company I bought it from went out of business. I have tried to contact Spring Air directly but have had no success. They do not stand behind their product. For the money I spent it should of been a much higher quality product. I definately did not get what I paid for.

Great for the first few days, then it starts to sag
by gummibarchen11 ,Mar 17 '08
Pros: comfortable for the first week
Cons: Not a mattress that will give you good support past the first year
Horrible mattresses! We have a California King, pillow top, that we paid $1300 for the set. We have had the mattress sent back to the factory three times in the last year!! It is under a ten year warranty. Each time is comes back, (so they say) with the guts replaced, it happens again within a week. There are noticeable valleys on each side of the bed with a lump in between. The store has the nerve to tell us to put pressboard under the mattress!! Can you believe that?! We have had this mattress for just over 2 years and within a week, there are valleys on both sides. It's ridiculous!! Instead of going through the furniture store, we are going to try to go directly through the to the manufacturer for the fourth return. We will never consider purchasing a Spring Air mattress again.

Dont let the showroom 15 minute test fool you
by seadooken ,Jan 24 '09
Pros: Very comfortable for the first 30 days.
Cons: After 30 days, this mattress will start to fail.
We tried the Spring Air euphoria in the showroom and loved it.  For the first 25 - 30 days, we loved it.  All of the back pain we had been experienceing went away . . . . . until.  After about a month, the pillow top started showing signs of indentation.  It has gotten worse every night until the point where it feels like we are sleeping in a hole.  Both our backs are starting to hurt again.  Thank god the store we bought it from had a 45 day comfort guarantee, which they are allowing us to change to another brand (after we spend the money to upgrade).

BE VERY CAREFULL
by backkpro ,Dec 16 '08
Pros: Good bed when new, they do stand behind their warranty.
Cons: Very uncomfortable when sleeping in "trenches".
You need to be very careful before purchasing on of these beds. You will spend about 1/2 our life on it!  We purchased a Spring Air Back Supporter (Carmel Valley?).  I have numerous back problems and was told this was the ticket!!  We purchased this mattress from a local store and had numerous problems of "sleeping in a trench". I have undergone a serious back surgery and came home from the hospital and was unable to sleep in the bed because of the "trench" problems.  After numerous calls we got it replaced.  The customer service at Spring Air IS NOT THE MOST COURTEOUS PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH.  IT'S BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED THE BED 2 1/2 YEARS AGO.  The last bed lasted about 6 months and then needed to be replaced. Every time they replaced the bed it was supposed to be an "upgrade".  We are on bed number 5 at this current time. (Supposedly an up grade to a Four Seasons Grand Resort) We are of average size and  NOT  obese by any means, we are just average people.

Terrible Mattress
by cemory268 ,Jan 11 '08
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything. Don't buy it! Spring Air Stinks!!
I too bought a Spring Air Mattress in '04. I had it for about 60 days and noticed the sagging and the huge hump in the middle that everyone else has talked about. I called JC Penney's and they sent a "mattress tech" out to look at it (this is after filling out an 8 page questionnaire with pictures... i felt like CSI New York). They agreed to replace it with another crappy Spring Air. That too began to sag within 30 days. They replaced it with another. Then, that one began to sag. Another questionnaire and pictures, another mattress tech... only this time, they refused to replace it. I wrote a letter to the JC Penney CEO and Board of directors. I got another mattress after all this, same Spring Air Company, different matress, but still a piece of garbage. I've given up! I am interested in a class action suit, so corkangel, let me know! I'm in!!

Spring air infinity latex
by orygunmomof3 ,Nov 12 '08
Pros: short term supprt on all body parts
Cons: felt good the first 6 months we had it
This particular mattress was reduced because it had a 'snag' in the fabric.  Great.  No big deal and a huge price cut.  Should have a been a big red flag.  Only I have been hearing the same thing from other people.
We have only had the mattress for 1 1/2 years?  It didn't some with a warranty because of the 'snag'.   BUT it was supposedly a $2500 mattress!  It is awful!  It has been sagging where we sleep now for a bout 2 months and it gets worse every night!
I would absolutely NOT recommend this particular mattress if you have ANT kind of joint issues, low back issues, or hip problems.
We jst purchased an Englander yesterday.  We're keepin' our fingers crossed.
We bought this mattress from Sleep Country.  The 'boy' who sold it to us promised there was nothing wrong with it.  After a few phone calls to the store, they didn't want to hear about it.  Probably because the warranty was not valid.  Customer service should still be a top priority at any business!

My Spring Air Back Supporter Mattress No Longer Supports My Back
by cerg ,Jan 29 '05
Pros: The Spring Air Back Supporter Topaz mattress set is wonderful for about one month.
Cons: Do not waste your money on a Spring Air Back Supporter mattress set!
We bought our Spring Air Topaz Back Supporter mattress from a local furniture store here in Danville, VA. The store was going out of business and was offering a reduced price on many items. We thought we were getting an excellent mattress and box springs at an excellent price. We ended up wasting our money. My husband and I started sleeping on the mattress in September. For the first three weeks it was the best mattress we ever used. Then something happened to it. It became loud with creaking sounds upon every movement we made. The back support disappeared, and the mattress became lumpy with deep dents in the top layer. We began waking up during the night feeling stiff in our backs, legs and arms. The morning greeted us with joint pain. We felt like we were both rolling into the middle of the bed all night. By December we dreaded getting into bed at night and started to use other beds in the house just to escape the pain. I contacted Spring Air in Greensboro, NC, the closest manufacturer to us. They refused to help.

Sagging Spring Aire - Criminal
by hfhguy ,Oct 20 '08
Pros: Good sleep for one week
Cons: Good sleep for only one week

"Back Supporter" is false advertising. Bought king from Spring Aire in Dec 2003. Got replaced in 2008 because of sagging. Replacement mattress much worse. Now have joint, neck, back and abdominal pain from sagging mattress. Let me know when someone files class action. Where are all the lawyers when you need one?

DON'T BUY THIS JUNK MATTRESS !!!!!
by schell3310 ,Jul 29 '08
Pros: PRETTY, FLUFFY PILLOW TOP, LOOKS SO COMFORTABLE, BUT ISN'T!
Cons: GAPING SINKHOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE BED, UNBELIEVABLY UNCOMFORTABLE.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST MATTRESS WE EVER OWNED. BOUGHT THEM TWO YEARS AGO, DIDN'T USE THEM FOR THE FIRST YEAR BECAUSE WE WERE OVERSEAS. THE MATTRESS ARE SINKING IN THE MIDDLE. WITH THE BED MADE YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE HUGH SWOOP IN THE CENTER. IT'S SO UNCOMFORTABLE, NOT ONLY DOES YOUR BACK HURT, YOUR WHOLE BODY HURTS IN THE MORNING. WE PAID ALOT OF MONEY FOR THESE MATTRESSES, CANT WAIT TO PUT THEM OUT FOR THE GARBAGE MAN TO PICK UP, I WOULDN'T EVEN SELL THIS HONK TO MY WORST ENEMY. TOTALLY RIPPED OFF, AND PUT OUT WITH SPRING AIR. WE WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER.... ANYTHING WITH SPRING AIR WRITTEN ON IT.

King sleep fitness DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
by fountaini ,Oct 04 '08
Pros: Only lived to its promise for 2 years
Cons: Extreme back pains and visible sagging on both sides of the mattress
Our king size mattress is only 4 years old and we both wake up with extreme back pains. This mattress started sagging on both sides despite frequent rotations. Rotating the mattress is also difficult as there are no handles and it is very heavy. It cost $1700 and promised many things that were only true for the first 2 years. We are not heavy people so my conclusion is don't buy this one. We now have to go out and purchase a new mattress or sleep on the sofa!

Sure let me down
by walt348 ,Jan 05 '09
Pros: I can't find any pros for this mattress.
Cons: Same as Pros.
I purchased this on recommendation of the sales rep. As I have had back problems and thought the back supporter would help. Well much to my surprise after having the mattress for about a year and faithfully turning as the instructions required I have Hills and Valleuys and a lump down the center of the mattress. I would would rather have my 10 year old back instead of this $1700.00 mistake.

Spring Air Class Action
by corkangel76 ,Sep 24 '07
Pros: Nothing
Cons: It sags, no warranty help! It SUCKS
I too am one of the poor saps that got hosed by Spring Air, their saggy mattress and their useless warranty. I am in the process of forming a class action lawsuit and will be posting the information as soon as my attorney gets the action certified as a class. I'm tired of not sleeping, paying almost 1500 for my mattress and having it useless to me after a few months.

I say we take them to court and make them pay for what they've done. Even their industry announcements say that they have "reengineered" their product line in 2006-2007, that tells you that they know their stuff was crap and now they are paying for it.

Absolutely Terrible Mattress
by emilyspice ,Nov 25 '05
Pros: Sleeps great at first
Cons: Too big doesn't fit regular sheets. Can't get uninterrupted sleep anymore.
My husband and I bought this mattress in September 2002 and now we are currently looking for a new mattress. We were looking for a mattress that would last through the long term. Obviously this hasn't happened. The bed sags terribly where we sleep on our respective sides of the bed. The middle of the bed has a really high hump and that is the only place on the bed that has any support left and we fight over that. I can't sleep straight through the night anymore. I can't wait to get rid of this mattress.

Spring Air Mattress
by kls74 ,Oct 17 '08
Pros: It was comfortable on the showroom floor.
Cons: Does not hold up with use.
We bought a Spring Air mattress a year ago for $1500.00; the nicest thing I can say is that it was a total waste of money. The 17 year old mattress that we replaced was in much better shape than this one is now. There are deep indentions on each side of the bed that you have to kinda roll up and out of. We went the whole route with Spring Air trying to get this resolved. After 2 months, numerous forms, measurements, pictures, phone calls and just generally getting the run around they have decided that this is definately not a manufacturing defect; but an issue of comfort...which, of course, the waranty does not cover. They, emphatically, will do nothing about replacing the mattress. So much for a reputable company standing behind their product.

Spring Air Tennyson tanks
by rustyshiloh ,Aug 02 '08
Pros: Initially very comfortable.
Cons: Quickly uncomfortable.
We bought this King mattress in 1/06. Within a year there were deep grooves where our body rested (even though we flipped the mattress top to bottom as suggested). Because of the top fabric (which somewhat springs back) when we have the mattress measured to have it declared defective the grooves measure at 1 1/4 inches & not 1 1/2 inches which is the requirement to be defective. We have had problems with back aches, numb arms but because of 1/4" the warranty is not covering it . Unfortunately we will have to scrap the $2000 mattress before it sinks another 1/4 inch because our backs are sore.
In talking to the place where we purchased the mattress, they no longer carry this brand because they have had problems with them.

Don't Buy it!
by kxk3 ,Sep 05 '07
Pros: None
Cons: Not a Back Supporter
I just got this mattress last week, and within about 5 days it started sinking, I weigh about 200lb, but that still doesn't mean a mattress should sink like it did! It leaves an impression of where you slept and doesn't form back! I thought maybe it was just that single mattress but they came and inspected it and replaced it, but the next mattress did the same thing! I am returning it and getting a Serta

Sleeping Comfortable again!
by s_davidsonNew Member ,Oct 19 '09
Pros: I love the soft top and deep down support.
Cons: Delivery cost seemed high but I guess thats the price you have to pay.
Just got through a great weekend after having my a Spring Air privelege mattress set delivered on Friday.  Very comfortable. I'd recommend it to someone who needs support with comfort.   I'm wondering if I should have gotten the pillow top though.
