• Truly microscopic shredding...but there's a catch

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Dec 5, 2008
Pros: Truly "micro" cut, quiet while in use, small size, large bin capacity
Cons: Overheats VERY often, takes up to 25 min. to cool down

Summary: The Staples SPL-770M Shredder pulverizes paper into pieces that could pass for microscopic, but when it comes to reliability and durability, this shredder scores an E. Purchase, cost, and availability. My husband and I decided to ... read more

Pros: Shredded pieces are very small
Cons: Overheats quickly

Summary: I really like this shredder. It is very quiet for a shredder, and shreds paper to micro-confetti size. The pieces are much smaller than standard cross-cut shredders and makes for reasonable packing cushion when bagged. The build quality seems good ... read more

• Staples Heavy Duty Shredder - Micro-cut, Model SPL-770M

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Dec 18, 2007
Pros: Exceptionally quiet. Extremely tiny shred particles. Sleek design. Special credit card/CD slot.
Cons: "Heavy Duty" definition may not equal your expectations. Tiny particles develop "static cling".

Summary: I purchased the Staples Heavy Duty Shredder - Micro-cut, Model SPL-770M a few days ago to shred ten years of old bank and credit card statements. I was impressed with its design - smaller than other 7-sheet shredders I'd been looking at. It is also so ... read more

Pros: Teeny-Tiny Shred Size; Very Quiet Operation; Large, Easy to Empty Waste Bin
Cons: A tad expensive.

Summary: Wow! I am very impressed with this shredder. My previous shredders were both from Fellowes. They were the Fellowes PS60C-2 (excellent shredder) which I replaced after it died with the Fellowes P450C-3 (awful doesn't begin to describe this shredder). ... read more

• Staples SPL-770M Microcut Shredder

Jan 16, 2007
Pros: Great price for a near level 4 shredder. Does what it claims to do.
Cons: Not a true heavy duty shredder. Read my review to get more detail.

Summary: I'm an information security manger have many years of both military and civilian shredder experience. I was looking for a new level 3 or above shredder when I found the SPL-770M. I read all the reviews and the common complaint was over heating and long ... read more

• Staples SPL-770M Shredder.

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Jan 1, 2007
Pros: Nearly silent operation, shreds into the tiniest pieces imaginable.
Cons: Doesn't live up to claims, definitely not a heavy-duty shredder, overheats constantly.

Summary: I agree with the other 2 bad reviews. This shredder is terrible. Though operation is nearly silent & the shreds are next to microscopic, it overheats in no time & takes 25 min. to cool down! There is nothing "Heavy-Duty" about it! Our previous ... read more

• Sleek, Silent, and Hungry, yet Doesn't Perform As Advertised

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Sep 14, 2006
Pros: Sleek, Quiet
Cons: Bulky, Tall, Overheats, Not Worth the Price

Summary: The new Staples SPL-770M Shredder is sleek and operates so quietly that it won't wake the kids at night. You put in the paper sheets and it hungrily inhales each converting them into tiny unusable balls of paper. But, buyer beware, this shredder does ... read more

Pros: Worked pretty good until it stopped working
Cons: Stopped working.
my cd is still stuck in there too, half destroyed.

Summary: Does anybody know where I can get an owner's manual for this shredder?Mine has totally shut down, won't even power up ...no lights, no sounds. The fuse seems fine, but I'll replace it anyways.I still need a manual just in

Pros: They are an excellent well known company.
Cons: There are no cons.

Summary: It is most important to use ;paper shredding companiesthat you trust. I have been using http://www.opsus.com they are excellent. They have a fast pick uptime and their customer service skills are

Pros: shreds to unreadable confetti
Cons: Overheats constantly, not heavy duty at all.

Summary: This machine constantly overheats. Now, most recently it runs without shreding. in taking it apart to find the problem, i find that in the gear rain from the motor, here is 1 plastic gear, the rest are metal. the plastic gear has a smaller

• Works Great for Five Minutes

Pros: Teeny tiny crumbs of paper when it works. Makes short order of credit cards, etc.
Cons: Overheats and shuts down to an extent that makes it practically unusable.

Summary: We were sold based on in-store demonstration. After the first use, we found the serious weakness of this model. It goes into "overheat" mode after feeding 5-10 sheets and shuts down. It is basically out of commission for the better part of an hour

• OK for home use - and quiet!

Pros: Quiet!, Compact
Cons: Probably not suited for a true office environment.

Summary: I needed something to replace my Fellows heavy-duty shredder, which died after three years due to a failure that I was expecting after reading its Epinions reviews. My main use of shredder is to deal with the day's mail, and the few odds-and-ends like

Feb 3, 2007
Pros: quiet
Cons: Required to stay up all night to shred as much as the specs state.

Summary: I only feed 4 or 5 sheets at a time. 8 minutes is the longest I've been able to shred at a time. Then it "overheats" and shuts off for 25 minutes. Then only shredded for 3 mins. Then it shutoff for 25 mins..ect. So, I exchanged for another and had SAME

Pros: Excellent micro cut; very quiet.
Cons: Overheats quickly and often with basic use.

Summary: This shredder has excellent "quiet" shredding capability, and the best micro cut around for the price, but its OVERHEATING issues were enough to take it back for a refund the day after purchase. The problem is...after using the Staples micro cut,

Pros: Extremely quiet operation. Shreds into extremely small pieces.
Cons: overheats very quickly

Summary: I was initially impressed after purchasing this shredder to replace the Royal 1280mx that mysteriously quit on me. That lasted all of 2 minutes. As previous reviews have stated, this shredder will only shred for about 2 minutes before requiring a cool

Cons: OVERHEATS CONSTANTLY!!! Total waste of money!

Summary: Yes, it is hot in Florida, but this is ridicules! This Machine overheats constantly! This is crazy, 25 minuets to cool down?!?! Are they crazy? What a piece of crap! The worst part is that this was a gift, I don't know if I even have the receipt for this

Pros: Shreds. Does what it's supposed to do. Destroy documents.
Cons: None

Summary: No problems. Doesn't overheat. I tested it by running 10 stacks 7-sheets each through, non-stop. Never had a problem. Doesn't even strain. Shreds to the smallest size I could find on the market for a shredder under $200. Because it produces a
