Pros: Terrific casting, clever and balanced screenplay, great effects, loads of fun Cons: Not even a little
I began watching Star Trek as a wee lassie when the original series aired on summer afternoons. Back then the monsters were scary, the dilemmas terribly deep and the whole thing very exciting. I went on to become something of a middle ...
Pros: Exceptionally Accurate Casting, Decent Story, Phenomenal Special Effects. Epic. Cons: The story felt contrived at times.
Let me start by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed Star Trek. The updated version introduced us to new actors as well as linking the film to the past. The action segments provided seat-gripping fun with seamless CGI providing additional ...
Pros: Good character development, plenty of action and thrills Cons: Could have used another 30 minutes
There had been 10 feature film productions of the Star Trek franchise prior to 2009 and I hadn’t seen one of them. I saw plenty of Kirk and Spock on TV as a kid, but Star Trek was never something I ever really got into. When I saw the trailers to ...
Pros: Very entertaining movie. Great cast. Cons: Some jerky camera work in few spots.
I’ve seen some of the Star Trek movies and various Star Trek television shows over the years. While I have enjoyed them, I’ve never considered myself that much of a Star Trek fan. I wasn’t sure about ...
Pros: great cast, lots of great action, fun and exciting, Abrams unique flavor, Cons: some distracting camera techniques
The new Star Trek film has definitely gone where no film in the franchise has gone before, and presented a great way to not only get more people interested in the genre, but in the storylines of the Starship Enterprise. With the last few ...
Pros: Great characters, action, humour, SFX, plot... Cons: ... a couple of small niggles, that's all...
One of the most hotly-awaited movie releases this decade, Star Trek takes on not one but two notoriously tricky challenges - making a prequel to a series fans know in obsessive depth, and introducing a time-travel element to the plot. ...
Pros: excellent casting, good script, great special effects, some reverence for Trek history Cons: continuity nit-picks, status of characters at end of film feels rushed
I have to say that the trend to re-invent old television shows troubles me. There are classic shows I grew up with that will forever be cemented in my memory as cornerstones of my formative years. Though it ran for only one season, the ...
Pros: Great story, excellent acting from an all-star cast, great special effects and directing Cons: None
I've been a fan of "Star Trek" since it first appeared on television in the 60's. I actually thought "Star Trek-The Next Generation" was superior to the original but I still maintained a fondness in my heart for Gene Roddenberry's original ...
Pros: Daring creativity; score; pacing; Quinto, Pine, Urban and the whole crew Cons: Not enough time with Bones (my only nitpick)
Heading into the theater to see the new J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek, I found myself assailed by memories of a bygone age. That age was my childhood, and the memories kept flickering like a television screen in a dark room. Sitting in ...
Pros: Great cast, lots of action, good story Cons: Lens flares!
After being let down by the recent over-hyped Wolverine movie, I tried not to let my hopes get up too much for this new Star Trek movie. I figured it couldn't be any worse than the last three Star Wars movies, nor could it be any worse than half ...
Pros: Clever, if somewhat irreverent, reboot. Cool effects. Good cast. Cons: It's not your father's Star Trek, that's for sure.
Considering that years that end with the number 9 have been, for good or ill, somewhat fateful for Gene Roddenberry's now 43-year-old Star Trek franchise, it's perhaps fitting and proper that director J.J. Abrams' eponymous feature film be ...
Pros: Stellar casting, solid effects, good script and story, nice reboot of a classic franchise. Cons: Eric Bana's villain isn't quite big enough for the big time.
My wife is a wonderfully patient woman. I've got a little bit of a media obsession...okay, a lot of one. Sometimes that means action figures, sometimes DVDs, sometimes horrible cartoons or shows from the 1970's that should have been left in ...
Pros: Pine, Quinto, Nimoy, supporting performances, script, direction Cons: Supporting players should have received more characterization
The journey ended for the crew of the starship Enterprise in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" in 1992. Director J. J. Abrams now goes back to the beginnings of the crew whose exploits have remained popular for generations of Trekkers and others. ...
Pros: imaginative reworking of the series, Quinto, Urban, Pegg, Nimoy, terrific score Cons: some may find it a tad too imaginative

Pros: Terrifically fun, very good performances, solid second half Cons: Lousy action cinematography, hacky plot, feels nothing like Star Trek (Con?)
My current kick of reviewing science fiction films had to eventually lead me to this summer's breakout hit, and thus far only decent film by any popular or critical standard, Star Trek. I was never a huge fan of any of the television shows ...
Pros:action-packed, full of red meat, with hilarious and poignant conflicts Cons: Previous incarnations make it a hard sell - for about five minutes.

Pros: generally well-casted, intriguing story, leaves room for further movies Cons: Casting wasn't perfect; plays a little fast and loose with the Trek timeline
Like many other fans of the original Star Trek series, I was eagerly anticipating this movie, wondering how it would be. For me, the various TV sequels ran hot and cold. I liked "The Next Generation" and LOVED DS9, but Kate Mulgrew (Voyager) and Scott ...
Pros: pays respectful homage to the original without trying to duplicate everything. Cons: too much whiz-bang, not enough depth. Kirk hanging by fingertips from ledges.
I was a Trekkie. I was not the freakish sort who spent time memorizing stardates and other minutia of particular episodes. I did, however, attend a few conventions wearing costumes. I usually went as an alien. The aliens weren't always authentic to the ...
Pros: Excellent addition to the Star Trek legacy Cons: ah, you can’t please everybody
The plotHere is the ne'er-told before tale of the meeting of two futuristic heroes Mr. Spock and Captain James Kirk. The story opens with the birth of James Kirk on a shuttlecraft escaping the destruction of the star ship Kelvin, ...
Pros: Cast, Unbelievable Action, Battles, Hand to Hand Combat, Captain Nero is a awesome villian. Cons: Would have liked more young Jim Kirk, Some characters, Time eras
I have a truly love/hate relationship with Star Trek, as I generally am thrilled with anything of the science fiction genre, but want to severely maim anyone that dresses up like Spock. If you have learned the Klingon Language, I ...

Pros: Great movie for anyone that like Science Fiction, great character development, Fast paced, entertaining. Cons: The scene between the Spocks. No real depth to the story.
This movie is a prequel to both the television show and the movies. It is the story about how James T. Kirk and company came into the possession of the Enterprise. It really starts out with Kirk being born and how his father died. Or rather it is ...
Pros: Acting, direction, special effects, plot, script, appeals to everyone Cons: Some small plot issues (especially for hardcore Trekkies)
Ok, I must preface this review with the following statement:I am not a Trekkie. I have had long and passionate arguments with various people (including the husband, who *is* a Trekkie) about the whole ...
The latest Star Trek movie reminds me of so many Sci-Fi movies with such potential that bombed, flew off course, or ended up as mere shadows of their former selves. I could surely write a paper on it, but instead I’ll direct my attention to ...
Pros: Plenty of action, good character development Cons: Time travel? Again? Oh, man!
My little brother and I escaped our wives and kids for the evening and went to see the new Star Trek movie. In short, it was great and well worth seeing by any fan of the Star Trek franchise in particular and science fiction in ...
Pros: great acting, cool special effects, wonderful story Cons: nothing

Pros: Lots of thrilling action. Great performances. Fantastic special effects. Cons: Terrible score.
I must start off by saying that I've been a fan of Star Trek for some time, but in NO WAY do I consider myself a "Trekkie", "Trekker", or whatever it is those die-hard fans want to be called. I own all of the movies on DVD, I always stop to watch ...
Pros: The character portrayals by Chris Pine and Simon Pegg. Cons: The love relationship between Spock and Uhura.
Ahoy there be SPOILERS ahead!! I saw this movie 1 ½ times when I went to see it the first weekend it opened. The newspaper had the time wrong for "Star Trek" so I saw the last 30 minutes of it -hence the 1/2,- but went back to see it in ...
Pros: great action, good acting, believable plot, Nimoy, humor, some emotional parts Cons: a little contrived but JJ Abrams makes it work
I'm such a geek. My husband volunteered to watch the kiddies while I went to the movies tonight and I chose to watch Star Trek. I'd heard good things about it and it looked great in the previews. I have to say, it was worth my $10. ...
Pros: It's freaking Star Trek! Cons: Not quite as conceptual as the show
At this point there's probably no way to write about Star Trek without saying this ain't your folks' Star Trek. It's stating the obvious. Besides, the truth of the matter is that it hasn't been your folks' Star Trek since the 1980's, when Star Trek: The ...
Pros: Great FX and Story Cons: Some plot holes, and plays loose with Trek History.
With declining attendance at conventions and a dwindling audience for recent films and the last Star Trek series, Enterprise, Paramount was desperate to find a way to breathe new life into their franchise. So they pinned their hopes on director J.J. ...
Pros: Karl Urban's portayl of Dr. 'Bones' Mccoy, a pretty cool monsters, good fx, Cons: design, story, terrible villain, Spock was not Spock, dumbing down, tacky effects, just terrible

Pros: Fun, awesome visuals and interesting plotline Cons:UNFAITHFUL to its ROOTS? stolen Sound FX, Karl Urban's accent.
I will not give away too much of Star Trek’s plot with this review, but, before I say anything else, let me first say that when I first saw previews for this movie over a year ago, I was 100% certain it would be a let down. I grew up on Star Trek. ...
Pros: Superb visuals, excellent casting, nice acting, respectful of source material Cons: Plot was a little on the thin side, but still enjoyable
I’m a lifelong fan of Star Trek, and as such, I awaited the current movie with extreme excitement mixed with not a little dread. Could this “re-visioning” of my beloved Federation keep pace with fans’ expectations? What ...
Pros: Great special effects, correct casting Cons: more plot would have been nice
I went to see this movie with a devoted trekkie friend who had exposed me to a few of the movies and episodes of "The Next Generation." I found that "The Next Generation" had good writing and better sets than the first Star Trek TV series. Plus, I was ...
Pros: Pine's fun imitation of Shatner's quirky portrayal of Capt. Kirk; look and pacing, some humor Cons: clumsy time travel plot, Spock is too emotional, boring villian
The Star Trek franchise has been on life support for the last decade or so, and was just waiting for someone to come along and revive it. Star Trek: The Next Generation gave the franchise a major boost in the late 80s and 90s, and the mid-to-late 90s saw ...
Pros: Great interaction between these new characters, funny lines, good acting Cons: Plotline, script, music, and production issues

Star Trek starts off with a bang: A Federation starship is being brutally attacked by a vengeful, time-traveling Romulan warlord called Nero (Eric Bana). Among the survivors are the infant James T. Kirk and his mother. The film then jumps about a ...
Pros: Likable cast, nice action, accessible Cons: Turns Star Trek into Star Wars, very formulaic
In Hollywood, there haven't been many better cash-grab ideas than prequels. They are especially great because they don't require much from the creativity department, since the characters everybody knows and loves all return, only now we see them before ...
Pros: High energy, good acting and effects Cons: A big black hole in the wrong place (read review for details)
This first "Star Trek" feature film to come out in almost seven years at first glance seems to have all it's going to need to appeal to Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike. Of course, only one actor from the original cast was still available, but if ...
Let me start by saying, I am not a Star Trek fan, never watched an episode or a movie. I know enough to recognize some of the famous lines and characters but that’s about all. This movie was good enough however to make me want to rent ...
Pros: Great plot, storyline, and acting. Excellent use of special effects. Cons: The next installment can't come sooner!

Pros: Lots of action, Kirk finds himself, humor, characters Cons: Weak villan; More Scotty, please!!!
Upon seeing J.J. Abrams' re-imagining of the "Star Trek" franchise, Gene Rodenberry might possibly roll over in his grave; unlike the landmark TV series he created in the 1960s, no one spends a second pondering the Human Condition or any abstract ...
Pros: A superb summer movie. Great storyline and special effects. It does the franchise well. Cons: Some characters change TOO much. Military protocols not observed, and some sequences stretch believability.
Star Trek was quite simply a tour de force of everything I have known the Trek franchise to be. In one fell swoop it changed the game of the series that has been around for 45 years. Thats right.. this one movie is a total game changer - you heard it ...
Pros: Bones! Chekov! Enterprise redesign pretty good on the outside. Cons: Unbelievably lame story. Mini-Jar Jar. Lame bridge. "Spock"
A well written story is one that can stand up to critical discussion. Star Trek, by JJ Abrams is so badly written that it can only stand up to critical discussion so long as viewers cover their ears and eyes and shout “LA LA LA LA”. JJ ...
Pros: Excellent Story, Excellent Direction, Excellent Cast, Excellent SFX...Just plain Excellent! Cons: I'm at a loss on this one.
Wow! Where do I begin? I've been a Trekkie since I was very young, watching reruns of the original series religiously. When The Next Generation came out, I was skeptical, after all, Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock weren't in it so how could it possibly be ...
Pros: Brand new storyline, but tributes to the original Trek too Cons: Not enough Nero!
Being married to a Star Trek fan isn't easy. In fact it's blooming hard!! I could swear sometimes I know more about it than he does and it's scary! So to find out there was a new Star Trek movie coming out brought a sigh of "not another one" from me and ...
Pros: Grips you and doesn't let go until it is over. Absolutely gravitational! Cons: Numerous incongruities between the 60's series and this version.
I watched the series in the 60’s, got a degree in computer science in large part as homage to the great Vulcan commander and saw the communicator and computer enter society as essential tools albeit still in primitive and unreliable form. I await ...
Pros: Karl Urban; updated classic uniforms; OK special effects Cons: Nonsensical situations; questionable casting; misuse of time-travel, sloppy writing; expunged canon; general carelessness; lacking intelligence
When I heard about this movie being made, I was looking forward to it. When I saw the various trailers for it, I was under the impression this movie was going to be great. From what I knew as recently as April 2009, I wanted to like this ...
Pros: Pretty cast, some effective humor Cons: Relentless shaky camera effect (EVERY scene), dysfunctional script, intellectually and emotionally sterile
I had only modest expectations for this film. It did not need to be great to satisfy me, and indeed I was pleasantly entertained by Wolverine, with which the new Star Trek has been compared. But where Wolverine ...
Pros: awesome effects, cool new ship, good character development Cons: contrived storyline forces too much, has more holes than swiss cheese
I am a trekkie or trekker or whatever, meaning I am a fan of the old series/movies, etc. I am not one of those old trekkies who could not stand to see change or have all my memorized future history go down the toilet. I liked the new actors, ...
Pros: Effects, action, suspense and drama. Cons: A few times the plot drags.
This Star Trek Movie review will contain no spoilers. It won't give away anything about Star Trek The Movie plot details. For this reason, some information contained in the review will be of a general nature. In this version of ...
Pros: Great casting, good story line, nice humor. Cons: Dragged a bit in one part but other than that, it was great!
I don't know what I expected but this exceeded everything I could imagine. This movie was funny, thrilling, and full of adventure. The casting was awesome, too! The actors did a fabulous job of portraying those much-beloved characters ...
Pros: The characters we all love, without the half-centurly of baggage. Cons: I'm sure some Trekkies hated it, but most people won't mind the departures from canon.
I've always been, at best, a casual Star Trek fan. I'll watch an episode every now and then, but the only movies I've seen are a couple of the Next Generation ones that I've been dragged to with friends. While I'm a fan of the original series in all its ...
Pros: Lots of action, humour, and quite a ride! Cons: Some of the fight sequences were so fast it was blurry.
I want to say first that I am an original Trek fan. The fact that there was a prequel coming out made me wonder "Why do people keep trying to change stuff I love?" They revamped Battlestar Galactica and while the original is admittedly cheesy, the new ...
Pros: Action, adventure, Star Trek. Cons: Time Travel as a story telling device gets kind of played out.
I am not a diehard "trekkie" or "trekker" but I do really love the Star Trek, from The Original Series through Voyager and all of the movies. There was a funny video on The Onion the other day about the new movie, and how the fans are dissappointed ...
Pros: Good effects, some performances excellent. Cons: @#$%#$@% up enterprise, contuity, charactrs messed up, did they need to destroy another classic car?
First of all I will describe all people in here as the characters, and not the actors real names. So when I describe Uhura's performance, I will be speaking about the actress.George Kirk: Since we don't have much of a reference point, other ...
Pros: Star Trek is back and better than ever! Cons: The Planet Vulcan was destroyed in this alternate reality.
What a comeback! Star Trek has returned to its full glory and this movie proved that something that was thought dead can be resurrected. This movie deals with a Romulan seeking revenge on Ambassador Spock for what he perceived as a betrayal when he did ...
Pros: Fast paced film that seamlessly blended everything together. Cons: The sequel is when?
I am old enough to have watched Star Trek in its original run. I was a fan of the subsequent TV series, saw most of the I-VI movies and all the ones with Picard and crew. Star Trek 2009 surpasses all of them by a mile. The movie was visually ...
Pros: Visually stunning visual effects - inside jokes to those who followed star trek TOS. Cons: Fun movie without the substance of Trek. Trek universe turned upside down and inside out.
This movie was 126 minutes long. That is how long it took to potentially erase 43 years of the Trekverse. While i understand the Star Trek franchise needed some serious resusitation - Paramount Pictures and JJ Abrams achieved the ...
Casting is as near to perfection as can be by VaMarty ,May 07 '09
Pros: Again casting. The actors played homage to the originals and yet were fresh. Cons: I'd have liked to see Rand and Chapel, but it's a small complaint
I'm an old time Trekkie. Having said that I'd like to say that I'm also a fan of the new Star Trek movie. My continuity reflex started twitching right from the beginning of the movie when George Kirk dies. I won't spoil the movie by any further revelations but will say that the twitching progressed into a full fledged clench until something happened that fixed the whole problem. If there is an Oscar for Casting then this movie deserves it. The cast was as close as possible to the originals (and Zachary Quinto could be Nimoy's son) and yet they brought something new to their parts. The effects were first rate and the story was quite good too. In short, I can't think of anything that I didn't like. I suppose that I could start expounding on time paradoxes and stuff but that's a much deeper discussion and should only be tackled after seeing this movie for the third or fourth time. Since this was my first viewing I'll just be satisfied with enjoying it.
Pros: -Great actors. -Good effects. -Stayed with orignal story lines. Cons: -None that I saw.
Once school started up I needed a tv show to watching in the morning while I was getting ready, nothing good was on, and one day I saw the tv show STAR TREK.. I watched it and fell in love. The movies with the origanl cast were not great, but in 2009 when the new Star Trek motion picture arrive, my whole family went to see it. It was GREAT! Great actors, great scripting, great effects. It even stayed with the orignal story line by having serious/funny moment. I reccomend everyone to go see this movie (if it is still in theaters) and if not, wait for it to come out on dvd and buy it! This movie will be worth every cent you spend on it, and will not be a disappointment to you or anyone. It is good to watch with the family.
Pros: Talented young cast Cons: Convoluted and illogical plot, overuse of hand held camera
In 1966 I was a young Army officer undergoing training in the US in preparation for 1967 deployment to Vietnam. For me the first season of Star Trek became a “must see” supplement to my studies of 20th century weapons and tactics, because Kirk’s experiences directly addressed the timeless challenges of military leadership: Formulating and executing a successful plan in the face of danger: applying professional knowledge, the specialized skills of others, and available technology to the accomplishment of the mission – usually in a hostile alien environment!
To me, no subsequent version of Star Trek has had such a high degree of verisimilitude. Over time Star Trek has devolved into “space opera”, and the current manifestation is of that ilk.
There are lots of explosions, lots of shoot outs, and one improbable sword fight – but none of this is an adequate substitute for the drama of the original series.
The plot is convoluted, a time travel/alternative universe theme is poorly structured, hand held cameras are overused, and as a juvenile car thief and adolescent brawler, Kirk is an unlikely candidate for admission to an elite national service academy – now or in the future.
Pros: entertainment worth the price of admission Cons: none
First off...I am not a big sci-fi fan and really quite disliked the old show and the movie or two I watched over all these years. That said, I knid of enjoyed the characters and how they interacted with one another...storylines were mostly ok, but Star Trek was always 'cheesy' to me, something I don't much care for. Fast forward to 2009...not another Star Trek movie...oy. Then I got to thinking, Batman was always the chessiest of the cheesy and its latest updating with Batman Begins and Dark Knight were not so and actually well liked by me. So, I gave it a chance. First off, the characters seem to have been well cast and the character interaction at least as good as the olden days. Then, add some extra humor and tons of action (though not at the expense of a well told story) and, well, I'm currently a 'fan' of sorts. A definite thumbs up from a non-enthusiast. Those of you who are old fans...eh, I would imagine you'd enjoy, but who knows?
