I know that I tend to rate most RPGs either a 4/5 or a 5/5, but that makes sense if you think about it. There are very few mediocre RPGs coming out in this day and age, as developers start treating the genre more seriously than ever before. We've long...
Pros: Rich story, unforgettable characters, more minigames Cons: Awkward group battles
How do you follow up a great RPG? Give it a richer, deeper story. Fill it with fun characters that the gamer will remember. Put in enough goodies to keep us preoccupied. And throw in a couple of secrets that will have you replaying until you find...
Pros: Deep character development, large playing area, stunning music score, interesting storyline Cons: You'll have to search high and low for all the 108 characters
This happens to be one of the few games that are actually better than the ones in Squaresoft's Final Fantasy series. The only game that even comes close to this one in terms of sheer addictiveness & replay value would be Final Fantasy 3 ( FF6 in...
Note: yes I did have a Suikoden 2 review posted before. Yes, it was highly recommended. However, it was my second review ever and does not deserve the HR plastered all over it, nor does it do this game justice. So I deleted it and kicked up a new,...
Pros: Great storyline, improved HQ system, 108 stars of destiny, fairly good music Cons: many speling erors that made the gam vey hard two reed, also 2D graphics very pixellated
The Storyline
The following opinion reveals major details about the game!
For those of you that have played Suikoden I, this game takes place in the same world, although the only connection you have with the Toran...
Pros: Secret storylines, many characters, Cons: Battle engine slightly unsophisticated
With the incredible original Suikoden released by Konami a few years before, its follow-up would have trouble overcoming and overwhelming the crowd once again. Fortunately for us game players, Konami came through with an amazing sequel that deals with...
Pros: 108 Characters, Attention to Gameplay. Cons: Horrid localization, inflexibility of Army battles.
In an era where games now are leaning towards "better" translating into graphics and sound spilling on to 4 or 5 CDs (You'll notice those games don't cost more than the 1 CD ones, though, CD manufacturers screwing us?), Konami came up with a...
Pros: Improved graphics, 108 characters, 3 battle modes, great music, shorter loading times. Cons: 108 characters are a hassle to get, and what's a Suikoden?
This is another example that Square rules with its Final Fantasy series. What's that? This game isn't made by Square? But this game is good, so it has to be made by Square. Konami? What's a Konami?
note: I refer to the original Suikoden many times in this review, and if you aren't already familiar with it, you might want to read my review on it first to catch the references.
After finishing the first Suikoden only a couple of months...
Pros: Story, In-Game System, 108 characters Cons: Graphics, Replay Value
Well as soon as a player pops in Suikoden 2 it will be very evident to him that is it very similar to the original. The concept is pretty much the same. Start off with one side, find out they are bad and go to the other side. It is a simple story of good...
Pros: 108 Characters, Simple, easy to grasp gameply, good story Cons: mediocre music
In my opinion, Suikoden 2 was one of the best rpgs of the year. It had everything right, a good story, large cast, great gameplay, and better graphics than the first Suikoden. Let me dive into these subjects a tad bit deeper.
Pros: Direct sequel, just like the original. Cons: Years later, and just like the original.
A few years ago, when the Playstation was launched, there weren't many RPGs on the market, as it was still considered a small niche in the gaming market. Konami entered this market with Suikoden, the tale of following one's own destiny. Nearly...
It is one of my favorite RPG that I've played. This game has 108 friends who are willing to fight for you, because of that reason, I liked this game. That is not the only reason, it is because it has tragedy, betrayal, friendship, and romances. (I...
Pros: Excellent Storyline
Well Implemented Gameplay
Excellent music tracks
Well implemented graphics Cons: Above average sound effects
I’m at a review frenzy today, I decided to review four games! Oh well, Suikoden 1 was one of them, now I do Suikoden 2. And also, another two, which I won’t say hehe!
Pros: Great Gameplay, AMAZING STORY, Nice Sound, Character's Animations look good Cons: Too many typos make me wonder if this game was rushed to be released
What can I possibly say about this absolutly amazing game. Almost everything about it is great, and there isn't a lot of bad things to say about it.
Graphics
The graphics are far from amazing, but still good. They can't even...
Pros: INCREDIBLE story, great cast, 108 characters, well done! Cons: Old mass-combat system annihilated.
It is often hard to rate story-driven titles against each other. Role-playing games are far more difficult to rate than action games simply because they traditionally have far more depth. It is entirely possible for the RPG with the fastest action,...
Pros: Complex but solveable, detailed, fun Cons: time consuming
Seeing as how I just recently purchased a Playstation, I had no idea as to what I should be getting to go with it. I wandered aimlessly about the Funco Land thinking "The only games I've ever heard of are the Final Fantasies, and they're all...
Pros: 108 characters of destiny, rune magic graphic spells, heart touching music, and addiction Cons: NONE!!!!
I'll tell ya a little about konami's game Suikoden, or Genso Suikoden. Suikoden (1st of the series) was one of the first RPG's made for the sony playstation, I rented the first one and loved it...then a couple years ago I was in Toys R US and I saw...
Pros: Long game, great storyline, 108 characters to recruit Cons: Whenever there is a dialog box, there is an annoying sound effect. But that's just being picky.
Ever since Final Fantasy 7, the Playstation has been getting several RPGs. But even before FF7, there were RPGs on the Playstation. One of the best was a game called Suikoden. With 108 characters to recruit and castle that would grow with more...
Pros: Easy to get into. LOTS of gameplay. Deep story, cool characters. Cons: Uh... difficulty of finding the 108 Stars? Or Clive's sub-quest?
Okay, we've had a lot of Japanese-based RPGs come out since the Super Nintendo made its presence with hits like Final Fantasy III (FF6 Japan), Secret of Mana, and Breath of Fire. After the Playstation came out, RPGs really gained some steam after the...
Pros: 108 Characters, Attention to Gameplay.
Cons: Horrid localization.
In an era where games now are leaning towards "better" translating into graphics and sound spilling on to 4 or 5 CDs (You'll notice those games don't cost more than the 1 CD ones, though, CD manufacturers screwing us?), Konami came up with a novel...
Having never played the original Suikoden 1 didn't know what to expect. But what I found blew me away. Suikoden 2 is by far one of the best RPG's I have ever played on the PlayStation. The 2-D graphics are reminiscent of ChronoTrigger and the music is...
Pros: Ever expanding cast and top notch plot. Cons: Missed a character? Start over!
I haven't bothered to look at how many times this game has been rated. It's probably unnecessary that I do it again, but oh well. I must have my 2 cents.
Suikoden is a true conundrum and gem in the modern RPG world. With such exquisite...
Pros: "old-school" graphics, music, sound, story Cons: "old-school" graphics
When you go to a store to look at games, what is the first thing you do? Many people see the cover box, which usually has the price on it, and won't even bother to look at it because it is "too expensive". But then there are those of us who...
Pros: Wounderful story and characters. Cons: Some people may not like the type of animation in it.
ACK! I JUST SAW FLICK and VICTOR AGAIN!! Flick, er; Mr. Blue Lightning as he's called through out this game is a virtual hunk in my book.
He can save me any day.
I played the first of this game Suikoden and I fell in love with him when he...
Pros: Over 100 people join your party. Cons: Too easy to beat.
Rpg's are my favorite games to play, but I only like the ones that I can actually sit down and play without getting irritated at the game. And Suikoden 2 is one of those games.
It has an awesome story line that will keep you guessing....
Pros: Lots Cons: never like posting Cons on games I liked this much
Aside from the extremely cool battle system and unite attacks, Runes are amazing*. the way magic is learned is extremely cool and it does take a while to find all 108 characters without using a guide of some kind. And on top of it all, we can get our...
Pros: Excellent story and plot, characters and character development, wicked music. Cons: It has had its years, not much else though.
Kenomi hasn't come along way with it's RPGs but Suikoden 2 is an exception and a big step in the company. Konomi hasn't been very popular with its RPGs as they didn't make very many but Suikoden 2 has made the top of the list in the world of RPG gaming....
Pros: Involved story line, Tons of characters to find Cons: Too short !!!!!
The first Suikoden was awesome but the second was AMAZING.
If you ever played the first game then play this game.
Not only are there improvements (such as the ability to run without special shoes and of course musical/graphical improvements)...
Pros: very enjoyable fighting system, good story, pleasant graphics Cons: a little too close to the original in substance and style, 3D junkies might be turned off
This game, the sequel to the sleeper hit Suikoden in 1996, is one of the only TRUE sequel RPGs for a console system. Unlike the Final Fantasy series which is only really similar in design and name, this game starts basically where the original left off...
Pros: So many controllable characters you'll give God a run for his money. Cons: Coming out several years after the first installment, you'd think it offer more improvements aesthetically and fundamentally.
“Suikoden spells war”’ is the terse slogan Konami is toting to promote their new game, Suikoden II. But this sequel to the original melee masterpiece also spells love, intrigue, betrayal, and a great game.
Being the adopted son of a late legend,...
Pros: Great storyline & 100+ characters Cons: not much execpt that it is not exactly FF8 graphics
If you are the type of person that only plays a game based on graphics, than you will not want to pick up this playstation title. But for those of you that appreciate the quality of a well develop storyline than this is a must have.
Pros: Great story, innovative design, amazing soundtrack Cons: Substandard graphics, story offers few choices.
Konami took a bold step when they released Suikoden. The PSX's RPG library was almost nil, (at least in the U.S.), and it was a market that hadn't been completely awakened yet. However, the game proved to be a success. Now, with Suikoden 2's release,...
Pros: Returning characters with new combos, clean graphics, improved battle system, so much more that I can't list Cons: none so far...
This game is simply amazing. Everything that was in the first is enhanced 10x better. The graphics have been enhanced, and the backgrounds are new and have a lot more detail which makes the game cleaner than the first.
Pros: engrossing story, 108 characters, better army battles Cons: still very limited secrets
Now adays where it seems that the only RPGs getting major attention are the multi-disc big budget games, comes a huge engrossing adventure that managed to fit onto a single CD. This adventure is called Suikoden 2, and proves that Konami can do RPGs...
Pros: Story, music, etc etc etc Cons: Two crappy cut scenes mixed in with several good ones
Most likely this is probrably the best game ever made in an RPG format. This game exemplifies doing the right thing in a good rpg. Going with what the developer knows best. This games' strong point wasn't graphics, it was story. This title is just...
Right after playing Suikoden (1) i was so eager to play Suikoden 2. YAHHH! It's the best. I loved it so much. It's worth playing a thousand times!!!! okay, so maybe not that many times but it is worth playing twice. Most of my friends aren't into...
Konami did an excellent job with this one. Lacking in numbers (of RPGs) Konami makes it up with games like this one. I loved the first game and I love this one even more. Not only is this one a bit more challenging it improved in every feature. Let's...
Pros: Better Magic effects, more side events Cons: Name glitch
So where do we go from Gregminster? To the Jowston City-State, of course! Mentioned briefly in the first game, it seems that there's a battle for independence being waged in this land. (Sound familiar?) It should, but then again, so should the search...
Pros: Story, Fighting system, How the story mixes with the first Suikoden Cons: The ending like the original needs more eye candy, the story may not be for people who haven't played the first
Suikoden 2 is excellent. You have to buy this game if you played the first one. The story connects with each other in a way, with returning characters like Victor and Flik. It gives you a rush when you see them in the game after wondering what happened...
Don't be put off by the name, Suikoden 2 is the latest from the Japanese developer responsible for some of the finest video games ever created, including Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. Suikoden 2 is the latest release, a much-awaited role-playing...
Pros: Great storyline, more characters than you can shake a stick at! Cons: some of them are insanely hard to acquire
One of the greatest RPGs I've ever played (I've been playing them since Shining Force 2 on the Genesis) it is an excellent game filled with tons of characters to collect, compelling storyline, and simple yet addicting battle scheme.
The storyline is...
Pros: GREAT STORY!!, many mini games and side stories Cons: not the best graphic
When I first got this game, I heard that there are 108 characters...
Well, I personally thought that it's going to be a bad game, with so many characters. Also the graphics are not so good.
Pros: Huge character selection, great story, similar to predecessor Cons: Can't think of any
You will find that Suikoden 2 is very similar to the first game in the series in many ways. The graphic style is almost exactly the same, but more detailed. The battle system hasn't changed much, and you even get a castle again. Konami also brought back...
Pros: Great Story, Characters Cons: no talking in battles
Ok this game derserves ALOT more respect. People say final fantasy 8 is better than suikoden 2 that is because u newbies out there dont understand REAL rpgs. This game flows like a great rpg i mean come on the story has to be one of the best out of any...
Pros: Wonderful story line, good graphics Cons: For a game made in '98 the graphics could have been better.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. It took me a while to play it at first because read the review Gamepro gave it (which wasn't very good but I will leave that for another review). In an age where gameplay and storyline are compromised for...
Pros: you can use data saved from original suikoden to get the original game's hero; multiple endings; 108 characters to collect Cons: starts off SLOW; some gay overtones between our hero and "Joey"
Game: RPG
Time I finished it: 50 something hours, but that's because I got everything in the game not to mention all 108 stars of destiny, PLUS the original game characters
Right from the bat I wasn't terribly happy with the...
This game was the bomb! It was better than the first one. Better graphics, cool storyline, better castle and more games to play within the castle. i really like the new Runes. Their spells are more powerful than the first. Will there be a Suikoden 3?...
Pros: I like the way you can get tons of characters on your team. Cons: I didn't like how they gave you so many people but you can only use 6.
This game is so cool. I choose this game because I thought the first was good so I decided to try the second one. I wasn't disapointed it was really good. I really like how you can use the info from your old game into the new one, and how you just...
Pros: tons of things to do!! lots of characters!! Cons: none
This is one game that is going to keep you occupied for hours on end. there is so much to do and so many characters to play and build up that you can't help being overwhelmed by the sheer size of this game. if you are a fan of the original suikoden you...
Pros: The best non-final fantasy RPG. 108 characters Cons: Slow in some parts.
Let me start by saying that this Game has it all: A great main story, GREAT minigames, fun battles, challenging bosses, different styles of gameplay, great special effects, and an overall high quality game with pretty good graphics. It even has some...
Suikoden 2 is a game I usually wouldn't play but when I heard about 100+ characters and have your own castle, I had to play. I don't see many flaws of the game except one at the end of the game: the "BEAST RUNE" was so easy to kill and you...
Pros: Small characters, music, story line, takes awhile to play Cons: Can't run on world map, carry enough items, battle scenes.
Konami did a great job when they released this game. If you like the small characters rather than real-life characters, this is the one for you. I much prefer the small over the larger ones.
I also like the fact that there is not blood and...
This game is truly amazing. When compared to the graphics of other newer games Suikoden 2 may be a step behind but the story more makes up for it. It picks up almost exactly where the first one left off and takes role playing games to the next level....
The War Game and Unforgettable Destiny by ramza_jaiputra ,Feb 28 '05
Pros: Great storyline, good battle, side quest looking for companion also fun. Cons: Music, ugly monster, confusing dungeon.
The game of war, that is what this game want to tell us. First time I played this game im shock with 3 different system of battle, of course one of the battle is original turn-based battle, and the other 2 is tactical-map battle and fight-based battle, what ever it is this game is good and fun especially when you out looking for companion.
Here is my express review:
1. This game is about war and the destiny of two best friend that finally against each other.
2. The best part of this game is looking for companion so in order to get them all you must face different kind of side-quest.
3. You also have your own headquarters or castle. You can upgrade your castle with certain job you must complete.
4. In turn-based battle you have 6 characters divided into 2 line front & back.
5. Tactical-map battle similar to any RTS games but in Suikoden 2 the battle used turn- based command which mean one turn for move to other area or attack the enemies.
6. In fight-based battle only your hero faced the opponent, the battle completely used turn-based command.
Pros: Music, graphic, mini-games, explorable variety of characters, endings, story. Cons: ...Can't find any. Too easy, perhaps?
I've played this game four times and this doesn't strike me as boring one bit. There are just so much that you can explore in this game: reactions, characters, cook-offs and not to mention the castle. Definitely an entertaining game with endless possibilities and outcomes. Even though the graphic was 99% 2-dimension, this was far better than most other 3D games I know. Gameplay, story, graphic, music... you cannot not love them.
