Pros: A Powerful (No longer) FREE Office package that is compatible with Microsoft Office Cons: Missing Visual Basic features, All-or-Nothing applications
NOTE: I had to come back and edit this review because Sun is no longer offered free, although it is still a great deal. The rest of the review remains intact.
Now you can download Star Office 5.2 Suite directly from Sun Microsystems website -...
Pros: All the average home user or small business owner needs Cons: No grammar checker.
I won't repeat what the others reviewers have explained so well about the functionality of this product. I will relate my experience with StarOffice 5.2.
I run a Linux box at home and StarOffice is the only office suite installed. I started with...
Pros: Stable, saves in many popular formats including MS Office, tons of features, free Cons: not intuitive, help files inadequate
Star Office 5.2 is a complete office suite offered by Sun. The amazing part is that it's a fully functioning program, and available for download completely free of charge. There are no nag screens; and, if you choose the option upon downloading the...
Pros: Excelent, comprehensive and office compatible productivity suite, multi-platform, open-source, free or cheap. Cons: Steep learning curve, not helped by spotty documentation, lacking in some MS-Office like features.
When I first fell in love with Star Office, it was around the release of 5.0, and the subsequent release of 5.1. This product became to me, what Office means to just about everyone else (my ONLY productivity suite).
Pros: PRICE!, Compatibility Cons: Learning curve can take awhile.
First off... this won't be a comparison between StarOffice and Microsoft Office. I'll just throw out my opinion that when you compare price -vs- capability... StarOffice takes the cake in a landslide victory. Even Al Gore couldn't contest this one. ...
Pros: The Price, It's Functionality! Cons: No Grammar Check, Opens as Desktop
What can I say, I have a soft spot for Freebies. This one is one that I've been deliberating over or months now. I've installed it, uninstalled it... probably a dozen times now. The thing that keeps me coming back is that it simply is a good program!...
Pros: Free!!! Superb for the price. Cons: Confusing interface. Not as good as Microsoft Office
Star office is the best free office suite available. It is a must use if you do not want to spend a lot of money and can easily do everything that Microsoft office does and some more things. It is very well integrated but quite heavy on system...
Pros: free, can handle a variety of file formats Cons: should have stuck to just the application part
When I bought my first PC in India, it came bundled with every software imaginable .. Adobe Photoshop, M$ Office, Norton anti-virus, M$ Windows 95, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Pagemaker and I could have more "installed" just for asking ... the ideal...
Pros: Runs on every OS, free, comparable to Microsoft's productivity suite! Cons: Huge download, no grammar check, slow start up and saving
When I built my first computer, I wanted to install an office suite that would work on all three operating systems that I would use (Windows NT, 98 SE, and Linux Mandrake), and one that would be free. I scoured the web and found Sun's StarOffice 6.0...
Pros: Compatible with Office files. Easy to open different file types from one screen. Cons: Takes some getting use to....
I’ve been using StarOffice 5.2 for two weeks now and I move around it like a pro.
Unlike most people, I went to Best Buy to pick up my copy of StarOffice 5.2.
Why? I’m too cheap to get another phone line put in and I hate long downloads....
Pros: Fully integrated, multiplatform, FREE Cons: Somewhat challenging to learn for the first time
The future of software in the Internet age is cross-platform applications which aren't sold but which are freely distributable throughout networks. That's what Star Office is, and that's why this rising star will outshine its rivals.
Pros: Inexpensive (or free to download), well-supported and somewhat platform independent. Cons: None.
Who's going to pay hundreds of dollars for Microsoft Office or WordPerfect Office when they can get the same functionality for little or nothing? And if no one will, why would these companies develop such suites? Thank Goddess for the open source...
If you have never tried Star Office then I would suggest that you try it today. Some of the features that Star Office includes are spread sheets, Data Bases, Presentation software and a personal office manager. The word Processor in this program is good....
Sun StarOffice 7 Runs on multiple operating systems, including Solaris OS, MS Windows, and Linux Simple, easy-to-use interface; contains full-featured applications Int...
