Inexpensive, Slim Design Breadmaker Does Nice Job Making Bread

by femmule , May 31 '03
Pros: Compact design, easy to use, easy to clean.
Cons: Creates a "hot plastic" odor when baking bread.
For the longest time I didn't want a bread maker because they seemed so big and took up so much counter space. My mother-in-law bought this Sunbeam Breadmaker for me for Christmas last year and I've been quite pleased with it.

I really...

The Headache Machine ie: My New Breadmaker

by dustyrose1973 , Jan 11 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, compact size, nicely designed exterior, view window
Cons: Could NOT get it to bake a loaf of bread without it falling!!
My uncle gave me this machine as a Christmas gift. Hooray! No more borrowing Grandma's machine whenever I wanted to make bread. Christmas night I make the first batch...it mixes up well, everything raises and looks beautiful, then it begins to bake. ...

Excellent at any price.

by wings42 , Sep 09 '05
Pros: Inexpensive, dependable, and versatile. Well built. Easy to clean and take care of. Looks good.
Cons: Manual poorly organized. Most recipes in my manual don't work.
I've used this bread maker for almost a year with consistently excellent results once a recipe is tested and adjusted. We usually make wheat bread, but have also made delicious white bread, French bread, and banana bread. The machine also makes cake ...

Great to use, love the brad.
by ksraga ,Dec 02 '03
Pros: Compact, with lots of features, easy to use.
Cons: The size of the bread when it is baked.
Great value for money. I was hesitant on purchasing a bread making machine. I received this one as a gift and I am very happy with the machine. I would recommend it to others and I have also given it as a gift to others.

Lots of Features
by summerjade ,Sep 19 '03
Pros: a lot of features, not bulky like most machines, fairly quiet during kneading process
Cons: the shape of the loaf
For the money this machine can't be beat. It's has a lot of features that high end machines, but for a much better price. I bought this machine, because I love to bake bread, but have little time. The finished loaf is typical of most bread machines, which I'm not really fond of. With that said, I love the delay feature and the dough cycle feature on this machine. I make breads and rolls using the dough cycle, then turn out the dough, let it finish rising, and bake in my oven. I have had great breads and rolls every time.

I am building a brick bread house
by chrisjax11 ,Jan 29 '07
Pros: You can build a house on the cheap
Cons: You will never get a loaf of bread.
I have tried every type of flour, yeast, hot water, cold water, holy water. To get this bread maker to produce a loaf of bread. Nada.
Had my sister come with her bread maker. We used the same ingredients and at the end she had bread and I had a brick. I called the 800 no. and they were as useful as the machine they sold me.
I want to package it and send it to the CEO and see if he/she can get some bread out of this garbage.

Very Pleased
by lovetosave ,Dec 18 '04
Pros: lightweight and compact
Cons: none
I just bought my breadmaker from a thrift store. I didn't know if I would get my money's worth out of one, and this seemed like a good way to try one out. I have never had one before. I have used it twice, and so far it is great. I have arthritis in my hands. It is lightweight and compact, and does all the work, which makes it easy to use. The expressbake is very handy. I didn't get a manual with it, so I checked Sunbeam's site. It has a manual with recipes that can be downloaded. I can also order parts, if necessary. So far, I am very satisfied, and would recommend it to my friends. I am anxious to try out new recipes.

New model 5891 is great too
by wvzoomy ,Apr 14 '05
Pros: Large viewing window, mixed up well, cleans up easily, and tasty product.
Cons: The mixing paddle doesn't come out very easily.
I spent a lot of time researching bread machines and was a bit concerned about purchasing one in this price range since it seemed the higher priced models had better reviews. After deciding to try one to see if I would actually use it before spending a lot money on a machine, I went to the local discount and picked up the Sunbeam 5891. After using it I am perfectly happy with this model. The first loaf I made was a whole wheat and the second was the basic white, both recipes from the manual. I used fresh ingredients and EXACT measurements like the book said, except that I added the vital wheat gluten that some websites recommended, and monitored the mixing to make sure everything got mixed in. Not an ounce of trouble. Next up is dough for sandwich buns.

Not a fan of this machine
by mcsue ,Nov 27 '05
Pros: It was a bargain compared to other machines
Cons: Makes a loaf of bread like a little brick
I received this as a gift about 2 years ago, to replace a machine that I'd used for years. I made great loaves of bread in my old machine before it broke, so I'm fairly knowledgeable about how the machine ought to work. I think this Sunbeam must have made a good loaf of bread at some point or we would have returned it, but I really don't remember ever having a loaf that worked.

I've tried bread mixes, I've tried various recipes, I've checked my yeast--it doesn't matter what I try, the loaf comes up short, stubby, dense and disappointing. Frequently it rises nicely and then falls near the end of the cycle. From my reading today I see that this is the #1 complaint with the Sunbeam machines & seems to be a problem without a solution.

Many reviewers have suggested just using it on the dough cycle, then bake the bread in the oven. I will try that, but to some degree that defeats the purpose of having a bread machine.
