Pros: Lots of great social commentary on onverbearing religious beliefs Cons: From the start, you know how it will end
Survivor is the latest offering from the devious mind of Chuck Palahniuk. This is the book he wrote after releasing Fight Club, and is just as twisted. I'm starting to think that Chuck might be the real Tyler Durden.
Pros: Palahniuk's follow-up to Fight Club is an even more bitingly satirical work with even more larger than life situations and whatnot. Cons: Some insist that the ending is too ambiguous and that the author himself's explanation of what happened doesn't make much sense.
Survivor is the second novel I’ve read that was written by Chuck Palahniuk. Palahniuk, whose first novel Fight Club was one of the last decade’s best literary works, is all about do it yourself helpful tips and suggestions....
Pros: Weird story, weird characters, uncompromising writing Cons: Not as strong as Fight Club
A few years ago, a good friend of mine had borrowed to me his copy of Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, an author I had never heard of before. I loved the book; I loved the movie made after it, too. So, as soon as I had some money and Chuck...
Pros: Well written, smart, funny, satirical as hell, compelling as usual Cons: Not as good as Fight Club
After reading Fight Club and loving every minute of it I decided to go down the line of books written by Chuck Palahniuk. Survivor is his second, although not as good as Fight Club, it's still a wild and unpredictable ride from start to finish.
...
Pros: Incredible Dark Humor, Social depth of insight Cons: Too Short - as always, give me more
Chuck is probably the most interesting author to come along in quite some time. He uses wonderful writing tools, his books keep me on the edge of my seat - and i laugh. I don't laugh out loud when i am by myself very often, but with Chuck's books - i...
Pros: Interesting story and style Cons: Ultimately unsatisfying
Chuck Palahniuk's Survivor: a novel is a wholly original if not entirely satisfying piece of fiction. Like his debut novel Fight Club, he writes in a jabbing, eclectic prose, replete with bizarre characters and a shocking plot twist. ...
Pros: You will be able to clean anything after this fast paced book. Cons: Do not read the back cover of the book.
I finished this book in one setting…after reading the last 20 pages three times. As with any book by Chuck Palahniuk, you should not let anyone spoil it for you. As a result, I will not relate any significant portion of the book. Do not read the back...
Pros: Incisive one-liners and an insane attention to detail Cons: Over-the-top ending, even for Palahniuk
Did you think Fight Club was strange? It only scratched the surface of Chuck Palahniuk's satirical psyche, only served as a warmup for this deadpan media/religion scather that concludes in an even more over-the-top fashion than Palahniuk's debut...
Pros: Fantastic Writing, sharp insight Cons: not for Everyone
Chuck Palahnuik's second novel, Survivor, is as disturbing and insightful as his first published novel The Fight Club. Mr. Palahnuik's ability to peel back the flesh of modern society, and examine it's bones as if doing an autopsy on it is...
Pros: The sick humor abounds Cons: This will probably never be made into movie
The second book by Chucky P.far surpassed my expectations. I hate to read. HATE reading. But after reading Fight Club, I decided to take a chance and read Survivor. And boy was that a good choice. I never imagined myself laughing out loud at a book, but...
Pros: Good Plot, interesting dialogue.... Cons: 1st half good, second is confusing....a re-read again book
This is a good book, but not as good as Fight Club and not as bad as it could be. It's more of a, "You have to read twice to get it," type of book. The plot is pretty interesting, but there comes a point in the book that somehow Chuck P loses...
Pros: Fantastic story, Great writing Cons: I can't think of one.
I have to say, I LOVED this book. I think Chuck Palahniuk is one of today's greatest writers. I could not put Survivor down. The main character Tender Branson, the lone survivor of a bizarre religious cult, whose members committed suicide, finds...
