Pros: Price, picture quality, best bang for buck Cons: None :)
Prices of Flat Panel TV’s have been steadily coming down over the last couple years, so I decided to take the plunge as a Christmas gift to myself last year. However, arriving at my decision to go with this TV took a bit more effort than I’d ...
Pros: Cost, Cost, Oh, did I mention COST! Cons: Fixed Speakers, No Discrete IR Codes, Black Levels
I picked up a LT37HVS on Black Friday 2005 (Day after thanksgiving) for $999 after a $300 rebate (which as of today - 2/2/06) I have not yet received. On the whole I'm delighted with the set (given the price) and HD Cable looks excellent. However ...
Pros: Easy menu navigation, ready out of the box, and many connector options. Cons: Remote's IR has very limited sight making it hard for TV to recognize button pushes.
This TV is great for its price and size. I like the bright picture and easy to use menus. It is well built and sleek. The built-in speakers sound great. I have a 5.1 sound system, but I didn't even bother hooking it up. The TV allows you to change ...
Pros: Best picture quality and features for the money. 8ms. refresh rate. Cons: Can't view VHS tapes via VCR's analog outputs (requires external composite video to RF modulator).
I've been comparing this set to the top rated Panasonic Plasma and Sony Bravia LCD, and I now own the Syntax for less than half the cost of either. The picture detail on the Syntax is definitely better than Sony's smoothing feature which hides important ...
Low Quality bad customer service by mattwarren ,Jan 05 '07
Pros: its thin and has alot of component hookups Cons: it doesn't work. bad customer service
I bought this TV December 06. In May I was having major color issues as well as my TV-G locked in blocking everything excluding toons, even public tv was blocked. They managed to get someone ther to replace the board in June. In October the same thing happened again, they said they would have to replace the TV, with a newer model that costs 50% of what I paid for this one. I paid for a box from them to have it shipped back to them and recieved it 6 weeks after I paid for it. To date they have not emailed me the shipping labels or returned my calls. I have left message for 3 of the reps I initially dealt with as well as the customer service manager Carol. No responce back from them. My warranty is now expired and still have not heard back from them. Hope your experience is better.
Pros: Great Value. Excellent Pict. Olevia logo glows when set is off. Cons: Speakers do not detach. Lack of Brand Track Record.
I researched LCD TV's for several weeks before purchasing. I was a little apprehensive about the Syntax name brand, but compared to the other brands in this size it has proved to be a heck of a value, so far. I set up my TV on Friday in less than an hour. After playing xbox in hd and viewing hd cable, (which I also have in the L.R on a Mitsubishi 55") the name brand became less and less important.
Never buy any products from OLEVIA!!.. by well_wisher ,Oct 17 '06
Pros: none Cons: sub standard product, dont fall for their warranty and low price ploy..
Never buy any products from OLEVIA!!.. unless you want to become like me writing reviews like this at the middle of the night.. guys the price alone is not worth it!!... and dont fall for the 1 yr at home warranty... not worth the head aches dealing with the service folks!!... believe me put in the extra 600$s and go for well known brands...
I got my LCD 37 inch TV replaced twice.. both the times the picture becam toooo glary to see, the original one lasted for 6 months and replaced refurbished one lasted for 2 months of use, the joke is the warranty lasts only for 1 yr no matter how may times they replace it with another refurbished one!!..
The best warranty is something I never have to use, not selling sub standard products with a 1yr at home warranty to dupe the innocent buyers.!!.. Good luck!!
Pros: Great picture when it works. Cons: It rarely ever works.
In 10 months of ownership this thing has been replaced once under warranty, and has now malfunctioned two more additional times. Three breakdowns in ten months. There is a reason the price is so low. Save your money until you can afford a set from a big name that cannot afford this type of unreliability. I know you have to pay extra just for the name, but it will be cheaper in the long run.
Pros: picture quality, inputs Cons: responsiveness of the remote control can be spotty
I have had this tv for a couple weeks now and have been quite happy with it. All the various inputs and features have worked just fine. It looks very good hooked up to a dvd player via hdmi and also functions pretty well as a computer monitor (the optimum resolution for pc use seems to be 1360x768). Considering the much lower price compared to the name brand competition, I think the Syntax is a worthy choice among the 37" LCD crowd.
The TV is nice but contacting service is virtually impossible. I've sent emails and received no response and waited on the phone for 4 hours without getting through. I have a slight anomaly with displaying 720P and wanted to find out why. If you buy this TV don't expect much from the service people. I'd also recommend that you not buy a service contract from Syntax. They advertise one year in-home warranty but I'm not sure you'll have an easy time getting someone to talk to. If I had to do it again I'd stick with a name brand vendor.
We bought this Syntax LT37HVS in early November. Also, I got the STB from Adelphia Cable. The STB and the Syntax have an HDMI ports, so a $13 cable from Radio Shack cabled them together and everything is fine. The HD picture quality is wonderful, obviously SD is only as good as the source, with some of them close to HD and some pretty bad. They quality is fine and mine cost $1500 at HH Gregg.
Make sure you get the $37 inch as the bigger the better and make sure you get the HVS, as it has the HDMI port, while some don't.
RIPOFF, arrest the CEO of this company by mdarklighter ,Aug 18 '07
Pros: uh, life lesson renewed? you get what you pay for! Cons: Cons, as in convicts, what the CEOs of Olevia should be
This TV and most of the models put out by Olevia/ Syntax Brillian are JUNK! you may get a year or so out of them before they die. Mine is a boat anchor, no parts to fix it, lousy service, nice people, easy to get through to them, no information on how long it will take, cost etc. Warranty is a scam to get you to buy. I Looked at the reviews before I made the purchase and most were positive. I didn't know the company had just started selling TVs, now the reviews are 50% negative or worse and even the stores tell you the TVs are junk. I saw one yesterday on display, dead!, in the showroom! AVOID THIS COMPANY, and for that matter most generic TVs, Vizio, LG, Sceptre, LUX, MAXENT, Envision, Insignia even Westinghouse and Samsung are putting out junk. I hear for a cheap LCD, Viewsonic and HP get fair ratings but for a little more you can get JVC, Phillips, Mitsubishi, even Sony if you shop around. PAY the extra and for gods sake use a Credit card, they double warranties in many cases.
Don't be lured by low cost. by farster ,Jun 12 '08
Pros: Provides purchaser with shock and aw when leaping from CRT type TV to LCD. Cons: Short service life of TV before it requires repair. Poor remote function.
LT37HVS SN:VDLK16081266 was purchased in May 2006. I will bet, the remote will drive you around the bend from the get go. It's very sluggish and has to be pointed directly at the TV from short range or it won't work. I was told this and I still bought the TV because of the low cost. (Installation of new battery's made no difference in it's operation).
While watching the Stanley cup playoffs in May 2008 the TV started flashing bright and dark then went black with only audio output. In the end, I have replaced the TV with a major brand rather than absorb repair costs on the Olevia.
If low cost, bells and whistles appeal to you than this set is for you. If you consider reliability and a good remote are key components than I wouldn't recommend it. Be patient and do your research. Spend more on a proven major brand. You'll end up spending it anyway as I have.
This LCD is unbelievable!!!! by mwalkerbcc ,May 09 '05
Pros: Picture, no reflection, Auto resolution switching, PRICE Cons: None
The picture is amazing. Anyone who says otherwise does not have it hooked up correctly or doesn't understand HDTV. Hook a DVI cable from your HD cable box to this LCD and pick a channel that not only broadcasts in HDTV but also uses a digital camera (PBS in my area, or watch the ESPNHD studio shot) to see how good this picture is. The networks are behind the times and this is no fault of the TV. Most are still shooting in 4x3 mode. Don't blame the TV. Sports are incredible. The best is the no reflection. I could barely see the picture on a bright sunny day with my old TV. Now I can sit outside and see a great picture!
Pros: Great set in every way except: Cons: It was broken, can't just take it back to store.
I couldn't wait to get this TV. Read a million reviews, not many complaints about quality. But, the unit arrived with a defective digital tuner. There was no left channel speaker sound when using the built-in digital tuner.
Emailed Target.com, they were courteous and apologetic. Had UPS pick up item. Now the defective return has been sitting in the Target warehouse for four days according to UPS tracking. Target rep said it takes 7-14 days to process the return to refund the $1500- plus dollars.
No refund, no replacement set, into the third week after placing the order.
