I have owned several Toshiba DVD players over the past * years and have never been let down, until I got this one for Christmas last year. I only used it a handful of times and first the battery clip broke off and I used tape and a toothpick to hold the battery in place so it can be charged. Then the barely used player crapped out on me while trying to load and watch a movie at lunch break. I've only had it for just over a year! I was thinking of buying a new HD DVD player made by Toshiba until this happened, now I won't even think about Toshiba for ANY electronics ever again.

I just bought this DVD player last week and used it on a 4 hour bus ride. I could not be happier with my purchase. I found that the battery lasted longer than the suggested time of 2.5 hours. I found that after 3 hours it was still going strong!! I had no problems with the pictures, I could view subtitles and the sound was great. I had the unit on my lap and was using headphones, so I can anticipate that if someone was using this system farther away from them, sound could be a problem. Other than that, I found the remote and all of the controls easy to use. It was a great investment!

Bought the 1600 but after a more closer examination of screen quality, I judged that is was clearly inferior to the Samsung brand. For a great picture, buy another unit.

Cons: design layout

I purchased this unit thinking a name brand would be of better quality. I was very dissatisfied. Image quality was below average, as well as sound. Returned this unit and replace it with Best Buys own brand (Insignia) and am very pleased. Much better performance and much less cost.
