My wife and I purchased this product based on its good looks and ability to toast 4 slices at a time. It was far from an inexpensive choice at the time (prices have dropped a lot since we bought ours) and we mistakenly assumed you get what you pay for. Unfortunately for us any 20 dollar Oster, Hamilton beach or Black and Decker 2 slot could produce a pile toast before this unit could manage to spit out the first 4 pieces. Whats more the toast it eventually makes is inconsistent in quality at best.

Pros: I like the separate temperature controls and lifter levers for the two sides.
Cons: The crumb trays don't catch everything, so I sometimes have to shake the toaster.

In September 2004, I found I needed a new toaster. I wanted a four-slice toaster and liked the features on this model. I was tired of looking for a wooden spoon to pry out toast that was stuck in the slots of my old toaster. This TFal toaster has worked beautifully for me. I like the wide slots and the flip lever has removed thick slices without me having to resort to a spoon-handle method of removal. Some owners of this toaster have experienced poor performance, but fortunately the toaster has worked well for me. I don't know if T-Fal has made changes since the former reviews.

This toaster LOOKS terrific in our kitchen. The rise lever is very useful for removing toast easily. However, it toasts bread VERRRY SLOOOOOWLY and unevenly. Planning ahead is crucial -- start the toast about five minutes before you start your eggs. T-FAL customer service had no solution for this problem other than suggesting that I pay $29.99 to send the toaster back to them for inspection. I did not buy this product -- our children proudly gave it to us for Christmas because they thought it was "the Cadillac of toasters."

Pros: The size of the levers and easy of buttons. The high lift mechanism.
Cons: The very uneven toasting of breads and frozen items.

This toaster leaves a lot to be desired! Our old toaster died, and we had very little time to find a new one. Our 15 month old daughter must have her waffles every morning. So, based on the T-Fal name and reputation, we thought we made a good choice. Well, I was sadly mistaken.
This toaster is very uneven. One half of the waffle, the top half, was fine, the bottom half was soggy. Then, one side was toasted perfectly, the other overdone. So, the next time we used it we adjusted the browning control. We ended up with the same results.
So, back to the drawing board....

When I broke one of the filaments cleaning our old toaster, I found myself in the market for a new one. The Avante Deluxe looked nice, had great features, and was expensive (so I assumed good quality). Well - I learned that you can't judge a toaster by it's appearance.... or price. Nice features - yes. Nice toast - NO. This toaster cooked very unevenly, consistently under-cooking one side, while over-cooking the other (mind you I'm very picky about my toast - as I feel I have a right to be when I spend that much on a toaster). I though maybe the unit I had bought was a lemon, so I took it back and exchanged it with another. It was no better. Not wanting to give up on what I though *should* be a good toaster, I again exchanged it for a 3rd one. I'm sure you can guess the outcome (it was the same as the other two). I was very, very disappointed in the uneven, burnt-on-one-side-barely-toasted-on-the-other poor quality toast. I returned the third unit, and vowed never again to buy a T-Fal toaster.

Cons: It's irritating to have to stand over the toaster watching it

My tfal toaster has never worked properly. The slots on the right side of the toaster almost never become engaged, so the bread is just sitting there, waiting, while the TOAST on the other side has been cooked 2 or 3 mnutes. After the right-side slots are pushed down manually, they won't pop up. So, the little lever has to be used, but it feels as if it's stripped and doesn't work, so the toast has to be removed manually. I didn't fool with returning it because I got it in exchange for points I had received in a shopping survey I had participated in. Using the right side of this toaster is irritating every time, b ut using the left side of this toast is only irritating about 5r0 per cent of the time. Buying another toaster doesn't seem justified, but using this tfal is not a great experience.

We bought this toaster at Costco in Dec 2005 & returned a week later to get another one , thinking the first one had a malfuction. the second one was the same; took to long & toasted unevenly.T-fal is so proud of their toasters that it'they don't show them on their web site. Customer service said they pass my e-mail onto sales & marketing.i think their trying to put the blame on marketing for promoting a poor product.

Parts of the elements did not work.

Took it back. Tried an other one in the sore. Again, some parts of the elements did not work (did not become red hot), hence the uneven toasting.

For the price, you expect quality. An other problem was that the bread did not by itself go all the way down. I had to push it down with my finger or part of the bread would not have toasted. That is a bummer.

This toaster leads with good looks and follows with bad performance. I have had problems with the lever that you push to lower the toast to the heat position. It won't stay down you have to push it like ten times at least. Sometimes it just won't work at all, so I use the other side, it sticks better but 3-5 attempts is usual. The very cool little lever that allows you to pop up the bread when it's done -- uh, it doesn't work at all, the lever sticks down and won't come back up, you have to force it to the point of breaking the plastic, and then it clunks back into position. The crumb catcher uses "selective" crumb catching ie, that's not very good either. This toaster should come with an unknown comic bag.
poor quality, and on top of that, it burns your toast. I mean honestly, I was thankful to see the other reviews of this toaster. I don't feel so alone anymore :) I thought it was just me getting the burnt end of the toast on this deal.

Although the toaster looks beautiful, toasting is very uneven. The 'shelf' that the bread rests on while toasting is tilted forward in sync with the slant of the toaster itself. The bread seems to slide forward due to the slant of the workings. The heating elements don't line up with the bread while toasting. Half of the bread is toasted nicely, while the other half is barely warm.
This toaster is also very-very slow. I can't recommend this toaster.

This toaster worked well the first 9 months we had it, then things started to go off. First one slot lost the ability to toast--you had to hold the lever down. Then another lever plain stopped working. We didn't use it that heavily and I delayed in sending it back for it's one year warranty--my loss. I'd advise not to buy this model as it is unreliable.

My wife and I had never seen a four slot toaster until we came across this one in our local store. It looked really cool and had some pretty neat features that we liked so we bought it. Once we got it home we read the manual and then plugged it in and tried it out. It worked very well and toasted the bread very nicely according to the adjustable dials we used to determine how toasty a person wants the bread.

There are two sets of slots and each set has it's own browning dial and a manual pop up lever. There is a button for reheating and another one for bagels which my wife just loves. The unit itself cleans up very nicely on the outside but is harder to clean on the inside but, only because there are so many slots. Otherwise, we absolutely love the toaster and so do our family and friends.
