    Jun 15, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Constant f2.8 Pin sharp. Good build quality. Lens hood supplied.
Cons: Slight yellow cast / warmer tones. (Easily correct with white balance / levels)

Summary: I purchased this lens a couple of months back having read lots of reviews and looked through literally hundreds of shots others had done with this lens. All I can say is that I have not been disappointed!!!!I was unhappy with the quality of the EF-S ... read more

Pros: Fast focus, great image quality. sturdy and good looking. Excellent price.
Cons: Focusing mechanism is a bit loud.

Summary: I purchased this lens three months ago, just before thanksgiving, as I knew i'd be taking lots of photos for the holidays. I have a Canon EOS rebel digital with the stock lens, and was never very happy with it's image quality. After doing some ... read more

  • Best lens in this focal length at any price

    Dec 27, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Fast F 2.8. Extremely sharp even wide open. On par with Canon 17-40L
    Cons: None

Summary: As a professional Fashion/Beauty and Advertising photographer of over twenty years, my demands for optical excellence are quite stringent. I recently used this lens for a fashion editorial shoot and can say that this lens is wonderful. Fast and accurate ... read more

  • Don't want to dump a grand on Nikon's 2.8zoom... Tamron has a great alternative

    Apr 14, 2004 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Inexpensive, 2.8 aperature, quick focus, zoom lock, a good product overall
Cons: Body could be constructed tougher, could be sharper, sunshield is made of really weak plastic

Summary: The Tamron 28-75 XR AF is one of my favorite lenses. It's hard to beat the quality, speed and price compared to any other lens. Maybe my 50mm 1.4 is better, but not by much. - Suited for multitasking I've used it for about 6 weeks now shooting ... read more

  • Excellent Optics at Bargain price

    Apr 3, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Excellent clarity
    Great Price
    Fast/accurate Autofocus
    Cons: Backwards zoom (See text)

Summary: I purchased this lens for my Canon 10D camera after looking at a number of other options including the Canon 28-135 ISM (~$400), the Canon 24-85 (~$300), and the Canon 24-70L (~$1200). The reviews on the Tamron lens were great, and the price was amazing ... read more

  • Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 XR AF VS Canon 24-70mm 2.8L

    Jan 11, 2006 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: Cheap, light, disposable.
    Cons: It's a Coke bottle.

Summary: I just tested both zooms side by side on the same camera body and I have to say that anyone who thinks the Tamron rates with the Canon must be smoking crack. Observations: 1. The Canon is brighter when set to the same stop, which indicates that ... read more

  • Good Lens for this money

    Mar 18, 2005 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Price, Image quality, weight, speed.
Cons: Plastic body, not as fast as Canon USM lens.

Summary: I owe this lens almost for a year. Good lens as everyday use lens. For portraits - still good, but, for example Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro is better. Despite of the plastic body it fills solid. Not so solid as Canon L series lens, but for $360 you'll ... read more

  • Nice lens at nice price

    Dec 3, 2004 by
    Rated Show
Pros: small (weight), small (67mm filter size), longer range (75mm), well built, hood included
Cons: not USM (AF is not loud, but noisier than USM), back lens cap

Summary: I was looking for a portrait zoom for my Canon 300D. Standard zooms from 24/28 up to 70/75mm make a nice portrait lens on 300D (with 1.6 crop factor). I own 50/1.8 (80mm on 300d) and 35/2 (56mm on 300d) primes, but they are not suitable for all ... read more

  • Held up wonderfully against the 24-70L test-off

    Oct 12, 2004 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Sharpness, AF speed and accuracy, price (I'd probably have paid more)
Cons: AF focus whirr and I wish it was metal.

Summary: I spent 2 hours in my camera shop testing and comparing this lens with the Canon 24-70L. I honestly expected the Canon to be much better in all areas. I was surprised to discover that the Tamron held it's own in the areas that I personally consider to ... read more

  • Excellent in all areas!

    Jun 27, 2004 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Weight, price, picture quality, size.
Cons: Gold lettering on lens doesn't appear very flattering, but that doesn't impact image quality!

Summary: I purchased this lens for my Canon Digital Rebel. I have nothing but great things to say about this lens, and if you are considering it for purchase, I would definitely recommend it. The lens weighs very little, it's compact, and delivers extremely ... read more
