Still A Great Driver from TM

by rancid1993 rancid1993 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Sports & Outdoors, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jun 01 '06
Pros: Long, Solid Feel, Controllable, Nice Price
Cons: None
Taylor Made has been getting a lot of press and hype behind their line of R7 drivers, and this one often gets over looked. Before the R7 there were the R580 series of drivers that eventually gave way to the R7. The R580 series was very popular, and ...

Overshadowed By the R7

by lmh3 lmh3 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Sports & Outdoors, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Aug 19 '05
Pros: Very advanced technology, long and versatile.
Cons: None to speak of.
Taylor Made's R580XD driver has long been considered inferior to the R5 and R7 drivers, however, the 580XD has almost as many technological advances in its design as the other two high profile clubs. The 440 cubic centimeter head is only 10 cubic ...

Taylor Made R580 XD Driver: The Longest Driver Around?

by hwz1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Mar 25 '04
Pros: Long and straight, good looks, long
Cons: None that I have found
What is the one thing that most people want out of a driver? Yep, without a question the one thing people want is distance. They want to be able to hit the ball further than their friends and do not worry too much about where it goes. Admit it, this ...

580XD: Sweetness on a stick

by brandonink2001 , Jun 23 '06
Pros: Easy to swing, sweet sounding, I am strong and regular shaft perfect for me.
Cons: Clubhead drab and boring at address. King Cobra has a beautiful pearly finish I love.
This golf club helped bring my game to a new level. I grant you that means going from a 25-handicap to an 18-handicap in one season, but now I can at least SEE a 12-15 handicap in my future. This driver is easy to swing, and likes to be swung ...

More Distance, Straighter
by briprimeau ,Sep 03 '07
Pros: 15-20 more yards, straighter, more forgiving
Cons: That big head needs an awfully big head cover!
I have played about 5 rounds with this driver and it has made a difference. I have gained about 15-20 yards, and more of my drives end up in the fairway. 15-20 yards is the difference between not even being able to reach some par 4's in two good shots, and going at a lot of holes with 2 less clubs than I was.

I was a skeptic about the new technology. I had a 330cc Ping clone driver that was about 7 years old and it was clearly better than my old original small-headed Taylor Made Metalwood driver. But I got tired of duffers outdriving me with their new $400 460cc drivers, so I decided there must be something to the big-head, thin-face technology. I could have gotten this driver at discount store for $150, but I got it used for $75 from Global Golf. It was worth every penny.

Long, high flying and straight
by camera2 ,Aug 24 '05
Pros: A very solid well designed club
Cons: None that I've found.
Compared with Ping G2 --R580 much easier to handle, better contact and control, greater launch angle, feel of solid contact which is missing in the PING. 440 size eliminates some of the issues with the Ping 460cc size

Compared to TaylorMade R7 ---R580 does not demand the higher swing speed, more forgiving, preset for optimun performance, whoa less expensive.

Compared to Cobra 460SZ--this club is not as cumbersome, better feel and workability, better sounding.

Compared the 10 degree and the 12 degree with a regular flex shaft no difference in yardage but the 12 was much more consistant for me. I average 215-220 with this club and was hitting 200 with the Callaway C4. I also used a 380 XD on a number of rounds but found the 580 much more forgiving.

On miss hits you get 70-80 percent of what you would of if you hit it clean. Out there left and right 20 yards off line.

Overall an excellent well balanced club for the average golfer.
