Crossing the Desert

by proxam Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jun 13 '04
Pros: Better than some
Cons: Worse than many
I've just returned from the desert region of Andalucia, in Spain. What? You didn't know there was a desert there? Of course there is. It's called The Great Quality Beer Desert and I was marooned smack dab in the middle of it for two weeks. Let ...

Tecate Light Premier... Really?

by 4-1-1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, May 10 '02
Pros: Only nice thing I can say is that the can is unique. Enough said.
Cons: Weak flavor. Plus: not enough information is provided by the brewer regarding this brand's production.
Tecate Light Premier

"Cerveza elaborado con ingredientes naturales de óptimo calidad; malta, cebada y lúpulo."

How's your Spanish? Did you catch all that? Even with my limited Spanish skills, I can make out the basic...

Good Cervesa from Mexico

by Bryan_Carey Bryan_Carey is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Restaurants & Gourmet, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Feb 20 '00
Pros: Very Accomodating
Cons: Just Another Lager
Tecate is one of the more popular Mexican imported beers. It was first brewed in 1944 and it has climbed the sales ladder to become one of the top five Mexican imports to the United States.

Tecate has a weak, grainy smell, with a slight amount...

An Ordinary Brew for Ordinary Beer Drinkers

by mrkstvns Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Oct 15 '02
Pros: Light inoffensive everyday lager
Cons: Light inoffensive everyday lager
I've often said that for every beer, there is an occasion, but to a lot of folks, the right occasion for ordinary, everyday, non-pretensious beers is...well...every day. That's the kind of niche that beers like Tecate fit into.

Tecate es mi Cerveza de la Casa

by factotum Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 16 '07
Pros: Good flavor, inexpensive
Cons: Lacks complexity
Tecate is a fine, middle of the road lager from Mexico. A great beer? I wouldn't go that far, but then it isn't priced like one. Tecate averages around $5 a six pack in the Los Angeles area, and can frequently be found on sale for less than that. As ...

Not as bad as I expected

by andaryl Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Sep 29 '01
Pros: Cheap, easy drinking
Cons: Straightforward, lacks a little hop
“Tecate is a pleasant Mexican community, where life centers around a tranquil tree-shaded plaza. The city is located about thirty miles east of Tijuana on the road to Mexicali. The biggest point of interest here, of course, is the Cuauhtémoc Brewery,...

by mrkstvns Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Oct 23 '01
Pros: How green grows thy garden?
Cons: Bland, bland, bland...YEEECH!
Why is a light beer like making love in canoe? Give up? They're both f*cking close to water!

Some folks might think that was a joke. People who love beer as much as I do will recognize it as one of life's fundamental truths.

While...

A Hard Lesson in a 12 Oz. Aluminum Can

by Fez_Monkey Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 19 '04
Pros: Magnificent companion to BBQ'd carne asada and a life lesson.
Cons: The lessons of life can be really damn hard.
The traffic moving north along the 405 through the valley toward Valencia was lighter than normal for a Saturday morning, meaning that we would arrive at Oso's a bit earlier than expected. That would be fine, as in practical terms it meant we would have ...

Beer is King in Tecate, Mexico

by 4-1-1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Nov 08 '00
Pros: smooth and balanced, easy drinking
Cons: no “outstanding” flavor characteristics, light hops
Whenever I travel south of the border to Tijuana (California border town in the Baja Peninsula, Mexico, just south of San Diego), I like to relax at the bars that stretch along the Avenida Revolucion. The town of Tecate is only about 30 miles...

Everyday Beer From South of the Border

by remf2112 , Aug 08 '01
Pros: Light and Malty, Reasonably Priced and Available
Cons: Slight metallic aftertaste, not a strong, memorable flavor
Tecate beer is popular in this part of the country. Many immigrants like this brew best of all. I've had it occasionally, it's like a everyday beer to many. It is more inexpensive than most of its Mexican competition. I don't necessarily mean that...

Cons: Doesn't have a full body if you really like that sort of thing...
The world of Mexican beers is similar to the world of American beers. You have your microbrews, your small-town brews, and then you have your big-time breweries that advertise during every major sporting match. In Mexico these big time breweries are ...

A Mexican Bud ????

by LaFeet Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Aug 15 '01
Pros: Inexpensive, tasty, smoother than Bud or Miller
Cons: Taste similar to many other mexican beers
As with many beers and flavors, one tends to acquire a taste balance which may seem a little unusual.

This is the case with Tecate and myself. I truly enjoy this light hearted beer with the tongue tantalizing flavors of mexican cuisine....

Canned Summertime

by syphax , Mar 22 '01
Pros: Light, refreshing, and crisp
Cons: Only acceptable in the can
As an avid beer-drinker, I have acquired the habit of only drinking certain beers during certain seasons. While some beers are truly ideal for year-round consumption (Bass comes to mind), others must be strictly confined to a particular season. Such is...

by Kerpoperly , Jul 11 '00
Pros: CHEAP, good beer
Cons: You can't drink it at work.
I never would have anticipated this sort of love affair with such a cheap beer. I'm not sure how this beer tastes in cooler or even less scorching climates, but here in Austin, Tx it tastes really damn good this summer. For some reason I've fallen for...

by Riken , Dec 14 '00
Pros: Refreshing. Has never given me a headache.
Cons: None
I clearly recall my very first Tecate. It was mid July in 1984, I was a sophomore at the University of Missouri, Columbia. I had made friends with a uy named Alferdo Varella, a citizen of Jalisco, Mexico that was a premed student at MU. He had invited me...

Great With Mexican Food

by darcyflint , Jan 28 '00
Pros: Great Flavor
Cons: Pricey
This beer is excellent when you are eating Mexican dishes. But like Tequila it should have lime put in it.

Try it with lime and salt!

by Cherri_CTsings , Jan 30 '00
Pros: Goes down very smooth
Cons: No cons
I was introduced to this beer as a perfect accompaniment to spicy food and found it to be quite a tasty addition. My favorite way to drink it is with lime and salt. I actually put the salt on the top of the can, squeeze the lime onto it and swig it...

Tecate is a Mexican Macro

by james.dedik Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Apr 19 '00
Pros: Light bodied
Cons: Not much different then an American Macro
Tecate is probably my least favorite Mexican brand of beer. It doesn't taste much different then an American macro brewed beer to me. It is light bodied and with a balanced flavor (not really malty, not really hoppy), much like Corona with one drawl...

Tecate, the best Mexican beer

by DandeeMandee , Apr 17 '00
Pros: Very inexpensive, tasty warm or cold, great with lime
Cons: not sold everywhere
Okay, I'm not a big beer drinker, but sometimes when you are at a bar, and running low on cash, you end up drinking beer. Well, I do anyway. My parents have a beach house in Mexico. Whenever I go down there, I drink Midori Sours and Tecates. I swear,...

A good beer

by tunnelrat , Dec 06 '02
Pros: light but with full flavor
Cons: a bit expensive
A nice, light beer with a full body of flavor. You can get a nice buzz on with only a few beers. No after taste and no metallic taste. You don't get bloated and as long as you pace yourself, you can drink all night.
Tecate is a good beer for any...

El Cheapo

by ccheval , May 14 '01
Pros: Cheaper than Corona
Cons: It's no Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Time: 1983
Place: Fred's Rainbow Bar; Juarez, Mexico

Seventy-five cents got you a T n'T, a shot of cheap tequila and a cold Tecate with lime. Today I live in Portland, Oregon, not El Paso, Texas, but I still like Tecate. The Mexicans I...

Best Mexican Beer!

by jk_robinson , Jan 16 '00
Pros: Great tasting at an affordable price.
Cons: Non can come to mind.

It's Cheap!!!!!!!!

by Peyton13 , Aug 31 '00
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Needs a Lime!!!
Tecate is got to be the cheapest beer that I’m willing to drink. It sells for like $8 bucks a 12 pack. I had never really had it until I came here to Austin and now it is like the Mexican version of the “Beast” but I can actually enjoy one. Well let...

El Mejor

by crumbcake , Jan 03 '00
Pros: the ideal beer
Cons: hard to find in some places

Tecate Beer - Muy Bueno!!

by gafergus , Sep 19 '00
Pros: Cost and flavor
Cons: Only comes in cans

Drink It Like the mexicanos do

by el9999 , Jul 22 '00
Pros: Light sweet taste

Bottles and Cans ~ Just Clap Your Hands...

by wec3 , Jan 31 '00
Pros: Light without being "fizzy" if you know what I mean
Cons: STAY AWAY FROM THE CANS!!!!!!!!!!
The quick, easy, no-holds-barred, tell-it-like-it-is, down and dirty, cut to the chase, fat lady singing story on this beer is that it's the best beer for Mexican food bar none. Period. End of story.

Yes, yes, MUCH better than Corona....

Tecate
by cheoelleon ,Apr 07 '06
Pros: great balance of flavor and economically priced
Cons: you may have to find an out of the way market to get the prices.
Amigos! Let me tell you this is a fine beer. It has enough flavor to give it a unique personality yet not soo much that your left with the after taste. Usually you can catch it on sale in certain hispanic markets in your area, making it appealing to the wallet. Grab some clamato juice, limes and tapatio hot sauce for a real treat. Sometimes referred to this as blood beer however, I am familiar with a mexican term " cerbeza michelada". I am usually fond of import beers and this is one that stays in my fridge.
