Pros: Unique oil filtration and storage system Cons: A couple of confusing hidden lights and controls.
Before we get into features and the rest let's deal with an item that may be a deal breaker depending on where you want to put this thing. I think most people store their deep fryer on a counter top with the frying basket inside. Because of the ...
Pros: Pretty stainless steel, heats up quickly and holds temperature well. Cons: Control lettering rubs off. Built-in oil filtering is poorly done. Bad customer service. Stay away.
This Tefal Fryer was a family gift to replace our venerable Fry-Daddy. I am not a frequent reviewer on epinions, but this product has become dangerous to use, and I want to warn others about the situation. The fryer has a control panel with a power ...
Pros: None. Cons: Inadequate filtering mechanism that leaks hot oil when filtering. Hot walls. Very messy to use.
This unit was used maybe a dozen times only. No problems with the first uses but it soon turned into a nightmare when filtering oil. The oil transfer mechanism is inappropriate and leaks. After messing up the kitchen we elected to use it ...
Pros: easy to clean, east to store, simple operation, ergonomic Cons: face lettering comes off with cooking oil (not cleaners!)
product failed after 7 months use
This is my 3rd unit in 10 years. With 3 kids in the house it is used at least 2 to 3 times a week.I paid $169.00 Canadian ($145.00 US) for mine about 7 months ago. As of 2 months ago, the fryer will not shut off once the temperature of the oil is set and ...
Problems with Battered Foods by bettyray ,Sep 29 '06
Pros: All parts except the heating element can be placed in the dishwasher. Cons: Problems with battered foods
This fryer works well and is easy to clean, as all parts, except for the heating elements, can be placed in the dishwasher. The filtration and storage systems for the cooking oil work superbly well thus there are no oil spillage problems to contend with.
The main concern (which applies to all immersion heater fryers) is cooking battered foods. If you put these foods in the fryer basket the batter sticks to the mesh, but at least you can remove the basket to pry off the food. If you remove the basket (as the manufacturer suggests )to fry these foods then you really do have problems as the batter will firmly affix itself to the heating elements and sensors and bottom of the pan and there is no way you can retrieve the food without running the risk of burning yourself with the hot oil.
The answer is to insert the basket, heat the oil to maximum temperature, and lower these items slowly into the hot oil on a non-stick silicone spatula.
It's a pity that the present trend is with immersion heaters and not embedded heaters.
Pros: Nothing good were as it started to leak right away. Cons: Leaks non stop, no way to stop it. Costumer service closed when needing help.
The first time we started up our deep fryer, it started leaking oil all over the place and we had to put it into a roaster pan and it is still leaking hot oil. A great fire hazard in my opinion.
Nice fryer, would buy again by buckeyefan84 ,Apr 06 '09
Pros: heating recovery; ease of use Cons: stainless shows streaking/marks easily.
I have had this fryer for about a month and a half, and have not had any problems with it. It heats quickly (compared to my previous fryer), and seems to keep the heat well. It recovers fairly quickly. I use it to fry wings (about once a week) and have had nice crispy wings each time. The only time it wasn't as crispy as I like is when I overloaded it (with 22 wing sections) and I only cooked the usual amount of time. But they were all still well cooked. I have used the draining system a couple times with no problems. You have to wait for the oil to cool, and then drain. It takes a while to drain, but it gets it done, and makes for much easier clean up. Watch when you start, just to make certain it is draining properly (others have had issues from what I have read).
Pros: Large Capacity. High temp for grease free food Cons: Leaks oil; large footprint.
I purchased this as I needed a deep fryer with a large capacity. Seeing the oil storage features was a bonus. However 2 out of 4 uses resulted in oil leaking all over the counter (about a quart). Returned it with the intention of replacing it as I thought it was a defective unit. However I chanced to glance at the reviews of the same fryer, but Emeril branded, at Amazon and found that even though the product got 4 of 5 stars with 23 reviews several reviewers described the same situation I had.
Other than that the fryer's performance was as advertised. Its a shame that it made a mess and I would still have kept it but for what it cost I would require a perfectly engineered device.
Pros: it did cook well before the eruption, but does that matter? Cons: it can erupt hot oil, or leak.
Our unit erupted hot oil in a 8ft radius - burning myself and narrowly missing my infant daughter!
As you can see by other reviews, this unit tends to leak. My husband and I, both engineers and fairly mechanically competent, deduced that the switch which dictates your setting (fry, drain, box removal) could very easily be set in between settings. This is what causes the leakage (between drain and box). We believe it caused an air bubble to form under the oil as it cooked.
After two months of trying to deal with tfal (who now has our unit in their possession) we have no answers as to what went wrong or what they propose to do about the inherent danger.
