I'll never recommend a Tempur-pedic !!
by stansburypro ,Aug 17 '07
Pros: Effective marketing commercials... Cons: Won't last two years. Mattress support mechanism fails with no manufacturer back-up.
Against the recommendations of two neighbors who had the Tempur-pedic matresses, we still went ahead a bought one.
Bad decision!!
After fourteen months the mattress developed a substantial sag in the middle and produced morning backaches for both my wife and I. --By the way, I'm 175 and she is 150 lbs.
We approached our mattress dealer where it was purchased...they said it's not their problem, but the Tempur-pedic manufacturer.
We approached tempur-pedic for a solution, and they basically blew us off, saying that we abused the mattress by having too much weight! What??
So, save your money, buy, a mattress with individual pocketed coil springs and only use a tempur-pedic to ship pianos with.

Doesn't hold up!
by sandymel ,Aug 01 '06
Pros: great at first Cons: softens up and compresses after a few years!
I raved about this mattress when it was new. Now after 3 years I'm in pain every morning. The mattress is on a platform bed. By morning my butt feels like I've been sleeping on a rock all night. The guarantee doesn't help because the mattress compression occurs only when I'm on it.
Even the pillows I purchased when I bought the bed have softened up so much they don't do the job any longer.
Unless you're a light-weight, keep away from this mattress.

Growing dislike over time
by jtpjtp ,Jul 14 '06
Pros: No pressure points. Cons: Very little support, even less as it heats up.
My wife and I were disappointed with the way our innerspring mattress formed depressions over time which seemed to undermine its support and we believe contributed to low back pain for both of us. This amazed us as we are both fit and not heavyweights. The tempur-pedic seemed great in the store (most beds do) and with the 90 day policy seemed like a low-risk proposition. It met our expectations initially and we had no complaints. It is now 3 years later and after increasingly poor sleep, low back and neck pain, we decided to re-try the innerspring mattress which is now in the guest room. It was amazing how good that felt. My lingering neck pain went away after a few nights (still using a memory foam cervical pillow - this combined with the tempur-pedic seems very bad!). Whatever support the tempur-pedic initially provided seems to have disappeared. So, bottom line for us is early impressions can be deceiving. We'll probably be switching back to an innerspring mattress.

Rip-off
by gsenear_dt3000 ,Oct 26 '04
Pros: Comfortable Cons: Can have the same thing for $69.95 from Target
My brother owns a Tempurpedic Mattress. I have a bad back so I sent for their literature. By the way, when I house sit at his house, I sleep on his bed. I have Tempur-pedic's video and sample foam. His bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Here is the problem, and this is the first time I have ever written a message against a manufacturer.Tempur-pedic's Queen overlay costs $888.00 but I just happened to be shopping at Target and noticed a "Memory Foam Queen Mattress Overlay" for $69.95. I thought for the money I would try it and if I didn't like it I could throw it away. I bought it and put it on my bed. This is the amazing part, it is equally as comfortable as Tempur-Pedic's $888.00 overlay. My brother slept on my new bed and announced the same conclusion I came to. There is no difference in the two beds. What does that say about Tempur-Pedic's $888.00 bed. Tempur-Pedic is promoting a massive rip-off on the consumer. The price difference is EGREGIOUS.

Foundation is very noisy, creeks and cracks
by branditroxel ,Aug 28 '06
Pros: doesn't sag Cons: Noisy foundation!! Very firm until you have slept on it a few months.
We have a King size 8inch thick Swedish Sleep set and after about 6 months, the foundation started making crackling noises when we would move or sit on the bed. It sounds like plastic is being twisted or rubber is being pinched under the mattress. We contacted the store we purchased it from and they replaced it at no charge. Again, we noticed the same noises start to occur with this new foundation by Tempur-pedic. We sleep ok, but every move my husband or I makes results in a creeking noise that wakes us both up. I think a sturdy, all wood foundation would be the best choice to prevent this, but we will see what the company says after the 2nd foundation request.

Work-around for back pain sufferers!
by mds222 ,Sep 09 '09
Pros: Try this work-around. It may help you back pain sufferers. Cons: Original bed, right side up will break your back!
For the folks with unreal back pain from the "sink hole" effect (and you thought this mattress was going to relieve all your back pains...ha!), I have a fairly inexpensive way to salvage the bad (I mean bed) investment. Three steps.. 1) Flip the mattress over (I know, they told you to NEVER flip it over). This side is hard as a rock. I tried sleeping on it and my original back pains were traded for new ones. So continue to the next steps. 2) Either layer two or three thick comforters over this bottom side of the mattress, or get the 3 - 4 inch foam pads from Wal-Mart for maybe $35. Probably a 4" thick feather bed would work also. 3) Get a thick pillow-top mattress cover to cover your padding and look nice. Put your sheet on and presto!
So far (6 months after the flip), most of my back pains are gone. I am a side sleeper that has had degenerative disc for 15+ years, so it took a good two weeks for the pains from the sink hole effect to go away. So far, so good.

Painful
by richmond22 ,Dec 17 '07
Pros: For the lighter back sleepers could see some benifits. Cons: hard a rock...even on the midrange bed.
NOT for side sleepers. My wife has had some back problems so we decided to make an investment and get a Tempurpedic bed when we remodeled our bedroom. Big mistake.
I have a shoulder injury and not only our new $2600 aggravate my right shoulder injury. But it gets better, now my left shoulder hurts also and now the pain is creeping up to my neck.
My wife loves it for her back but she is complaining of shoulder pain also.
When you lay on your side the focused weight crushes the foam down and it becomes hard as rock and it puts all your weight on one focused point.
If you are lighter (I weigh 220, athletic frame) or only a back sleeper (because your weight is spread out) or pony up and buy the REALLY expensive thick one then it might be better.
Big thumbs down....and I feel like and idiot for spending twice as much for this product over a conventional mattress.

tempurpedic donates USED dirty mattresses
by bedman ,Nov 21 '07
Pros: I have a memory foam mattress. Cons: I had to get rid of a tempurpedic because it did not hold up.
Tempurpedic donates it's return mattresses. They (TP)take off the cover and donate the used mostly dirty mattresses to charity. If a sick child or person gets it and is not told it can make a person sicker. TP TPX Tempurpedic donated $15,000,000 $15million of these used goods to waste to charity. (WTC) That was in less then 1 year. I have seen some of the returns and I would not let a dog on lots of them. If they donated more then 8000 returned mattresses in one year and said they have the same value as new ones something does not seem right in TP tempurpedic land. WHY SO MANY RETURNS IN LESS THEN A YEAR? I know some smelled bad and others broke apart some were ripped. MY friend had one he said he always got hot.

A fool and his money or easly departed..call me a FOOL!
by tempurstone ,Nov 20 '07
Pros: You'll have the most expensive mattress on the block? Cons: You'll retrieve the paper in the morning holding your back while your neighbors are smiling.
I'll make this short. Wifey wanted a new bed. We start shopping around and discovered the Tempur. One thing to keep in mind when you are shopping for this bed is that when you put your hand on it for about 30 seconds and lay on it for about 15 minutes you'll go ooohhh and aaahhh it fells cool. But think about it people- You will be laying on it for 8 hours. It totally changes in about an hour. It is not as soft as it feels on you fingertips or after laying on it after 15 minutes. It is hard, hard to change positions and hard to get out of bed. Don't fall for the hype!! We paid over $4000 for the Celebrity pillow top and I wake with backaches every morning now. Never had back problems in my life from sleeping. My only suggestion is to sleep on one for a night or two before investing big bucks for this thing.

We love our mattress
by artfulhome ,Oct 24 '09
Pros: Love the feel. Great support. No body impressions. Absolutely doesn't transfer movement. Cons: Can't think of one.
My husband has terrible back problems--in fact, has just recently undergone his second surgery in three years. We have had our Tempurpedic mattress set for over three years, and love it. Minimal body impressions and, while the unusual feel of the bed may not be for everyone (and what bed WOULD be right for every person?) we absolutely love it. We are both side sleepers, and have no problem. I worried about sleeping hot, since I tend to anyway, but have had no problems with that either.
I have a friend who had not had a decent night's sleep for many years, due to terrible hip problems. After she got her Tempurpedic, she could sleep through the night--every night. Her husband, with no problems, loves it too. It was on their recommendation that we bought our bed, and couldn't be happier. Tempurpedic offers a 90 day return, so I honestly can't imagine why anyone would end up with a problem! I know of no other company offering that.

Most miserable night's sleep
by ozyman ,Jul 22 '08
Pros: can't think of any Cons: HOT, HOT, HOT
I just had the "opportunity" to sleep on a Tempur-pedic mattress in a hotel. Was the worst night's sleep I think I had ever had. The mattress makes you so hot! Had the room A/C set in the 60's and still was burning up.

Beware after 2 years ownership
by fogdog3 ,Dec 27 '07
Pros: Before 2 years, plenty...after 2 years, none Cons: base foam is hard when comfort foam loses luster, smell, heat, stuck feeling
The tempurpedic material loses its main benefit (pressure relief) after only a year and a half. I own the Deluxe model and now toss and turn nearly the entire night due to shoulder pain. This is a pain I did not have in the beginning. The bed still holds its shape, but I continue to sink further and further in, the longer I have it. Not to mention, I only weigh 165. It's as if I'm hitting some hard foam that doesn't give once I sink in 3 to 4 inches. I should have known that foam doesn't last, but how many times do you hear someone complaining after ownership of 2 years. All the internet reviews, are people that love it or hate it within the first 3 months of owning. The heat, quick sand feel and odor were all something I was able to adjust too, but this is irreversible. Beware!

$3100 Dollar Paper Weight
by sseensully ,Nov 11 '08
Pros: Big and looks good, excellent for a 10 minute nap. Cons: Can get stuck in mattress. Difficult to settle in after turning over.
We bought an Eastern King Deluxe bed a few weeks ago after a few friends swore by these things. We tried it out at the store for about ten minutes and it felt great! Bought it that day, had it delivered and attempted to sleep on it that night. Both of us slept like crap. We called the place we bought it from and they said you have to get used to it so give it a week and if it's the same then call them back. Well a week went by and still little to no sleep. Can't really explain what so uncomfortable about it but it is.
So called them back again and they said to put a heat blanket on the bed ten minutes before going to bed. Ridiculous.
Due to the fact that we live in a semi-remote town they will not take it back and we made of not inquiring about returns. Kinda figured they would follow the 2 month no questions asked policy the factory has. Not happy.
Would not suggest purchasing this bed unless you are absolutely certain you can return it if you do not like it.
