Get Some Restful ZZZzzzz's

by gamblin_man gamblin_man is a Lead on Epinions in Home and Garden, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Jan 21 '04
Pros: Gives a very good night's sleep, has a good warranty and return policy
Cons: A little expensive
We all spend around one-third of our life sleeping or at least lying down. How much is making that experience the best part of your day each day worth to you? Is it worth as much per day as, say, what you spend to watch television while you’re ...

Tempur-Pedic Swedish Sleep System: Hype or a Great Night's Sleep?

by hwz1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jan 07 '04
Pros: Very comfortable, decent price, a great night's sleep
Cons: Difficult to find
We have been hearing the ads for years now. The ads about how the Swedish Sleep System is revolutionary and so much better than any other mattress. The ads that prompt us to try one for a limited period of time. Through all these years I wondered if ...

Pros: Comfortable from day one; has increased the quality of my sleep.
Cons: Poor customer service and poor warranty.

Still love our Tempur-Pedic Deluxe after 15 months!

by sleepingwell , Feb 06 '07
Pros: Heavenly comfort, great support; like no other kind--worth the cost; perks available
Cons: Expensive
A little over a year ago we purchased a queen-size Tempur-Pedic Deluxe mattress set. It feels totally different from any other mattress and we absolutely love it. It supports every part of your body. I especially like it because it fills the small of ...

From skeptic to believer

by teamw23 , Aug 24 '05
Pros: Delivers the great sleep promised.
Cons: Expensive. You still have to get up in the AM
Our old mattress was starting resemble the grand canyon, with peaks and valleys and quite an unusual geography all around. When my wife started experiencing lower back pain and some stiffness getting up even though she is only in her Mid-30s, we knew ...

I can't sleep on anything else now

by gambyt13 , Jul 12 '04
Pros: 20 years of good sleep. Local store makes a deal, delivers free. No mold/mildew.
Cons: Needs to warm up to you. NOT 100% conforming to all contours.
UPDATE: Additional benefits of this bed that I left out. It is virtually zero maintenance. You never need to flip or even rotate the bed. In fact, you are not supposed to flip it. The foam springs back every time. After 7 months the surface still ...

Would not recommend to worst enemy

by taxladytoo , Feb 21 '04
Pros: No know pros
Cons: Hard, hot rock - creates problems that didn't exist before.
We purchased a Tempur-Pedic (king) mattress about 18 months ago to replace a very old waterbed. The first thing we noticed was how difficult it was to change positions. We had been told this was normal and would improve with time as our mattress got ...

As Good as the Hype

by jmcvey , Mar 30 '05
Pros: soft, yet supportive; no motion transfer; relieves pressure points; no sag toward second person
Cons: more expensive than some alternatives; lower profile than we prefer
I've always preferred a very firm mattress, but have come to realize that it is the support of a firm mattress and not the softness that I desire. Several years ago, we purchased a memory-foam (of another brand) top for our traditional mattress and were ...

Pros: VERY comfy, soft, balanced. Causes good sleep. Service excellent, reliable BEFORE ordering Atleast/for-now.
Cons: VERY expen$$ive! Whatever technology, shouldn't cost so much! When its returned they throw it away.

loving the tempur-pedic mattress!

by lsj2002 , May 10 '04
Pros: Extremely comfortable, cured my problem with painful hip pressure from my old mattress
Cons: Worried that over time the foam will lose elasticity and develop ruts
After "trying out" the tempur-pedic mattresses in a local store for years, I finally bit the bullet and plunked down $2000+ for the king size. It was the best money I've ever spent! For years I've been tossing & turning all night trying to get ...

Pros: I can't think of any

too soft for me

by zeroch , Jul 12 '04
Pros: the first generation was great
Cons: the second generation is much softer, really bad for me

Wife loves it, I still miss my Spring Air

by newsreporter , May 12 '05
Pros: Memory foam supports back, no motion transfer, good pillows
Cons: Temperature, gets hot in summer, can't use electric blanket as it will damage the foam

Cons: Firm/soft level across models was initially confusing (dealer info vs factory info)

Cons: Looking for others comparison of Euro-Flex versus the TempurPedic.

My Best Purchase Last Year
by thedonald ,May 06 '04
Pros: comfort, value
Cons: none
I have tried various high-end traditional mattresses during the past decade. Whatever mattress I slept on, I could rarely get a good night's sleep. I'd wake up often, toss and turn, etc. A year ago I bought a Tempur-Pedic. I have been sleeping so much better on this wonderful mattress. I did not have any real adjustment issues, nor temperature problems. Since I work at home, I find that I often migrate to my bed with my laptop and phone. It's just as comfortable to sit up in the T-P, as it is to lie down.

Tempur-Pedic is inexpensive, well made and most comfortable.

Great Sleep
by ordodavi ,Feb 21 '07
Pros: Durable, clean, allergen free
Cons: Expensive, sometimes warm.
I had an original for one year. For the first few weeks, there was a slight chemical smell and stiffness. Later it was fine. The mattress can be warmer than most, but that can be resolved with purchasing 500ct 100% cotton sheets. I purchased it for my shoulder pains and I longer have them. I also had sleep issues, but that was not the bed's fault, but my own for worrying too much about everything. At the end I hope it last the 20 years they tell us, and I hope I'm not like the reviewer who threw his out after 4 years. Most mattresses last 8. In addition, my wife loves it. You should also purchase the Tempur pillows. I would have purchased the deluxe model which was less firm, but due to the price and my wife's preference, I chose the original, which is fine too.

Tempurpedic
by smanchen ,May 31 '04
Pros: awesome support for ANY sleeping position
Cons: expensive, can get humid in very hot weather, despite "new pad technology"
If this isn't the best $2K I have ever spent, I don't know what is! Expensive, yes, but you float like you really are weightless. Takes a few days to get used to but once you are it's hard to see why anyone would be on a conventional mattress. Cleared up my honey's back & neck pain and even REDUCED his snoring. (Says a silent 'yaaaaaaaaay!') Seriously, I would rather stay at home on holiday weekends then go pay a lot of money for a hotel mattress. It's like I'm constantly in a 5-star hotel, except I have to do the laundry. Buy one. Seriously!

Not living up to expectations
by keyba ,Jan 03 '05
Pros: I really cannot think of any.
Cons: It is cold, hard and uncomfortable. Back pain worse than ever
I purchased this 15 cm. mattress at a local store having been taken in by the advertising blurb. After a week of sleepless nights, I returned to the store and asked for their help. Lots of words but no action. Told to keep on trying for period of at least a month. This mattress was expensive and to be told that I could expect little sleep for up to a month must rank as one of the most stupid statements ever. I have now had it for over 5 weeks and there is no improvement
Rather that reduce the pain in my lower back it has got worse.
I note that Tempur have also got two other mattresses in their range, both of which they claim to be more comfortable. I have offered to pay the extra and get one of these but have been told that it would not be possible to get Tempur to agree the exchange. This seems like a small price to pay to have a satisfied customer, as reviews like this can hardly help to sell more mattresses.
3/12/2005 Things are changing and I will update shortly

Hurts my back! No refund from Brookstone!
by swehba ,Feb 23 '06
Pros: Comfortable for side-sleeping
Cons: Uncomfortable for all other positions and Brookstone sucks
For the first few weeks, the mattress seemed very comfortable. I tend to sleep on my side or on my back. Now, after 90+ days, sleeping on my side is still comfortable, but sleeping on my back is almost unbearable. I am a fit 225 lb. male with no prior history of back pain. I think the problem with sleeping on my back is that the mattress tends to support areas in inverse relation to the weight of the area. Since the bulk of my weight is around my hips, thighs, and midsection, that's where the mattress supports me the least. Consequently, that is where my body -- at least when lying on my back -- sags the most while on the mattress. Given that I've owned the mattress a few days over 90, Brookstone will not give me a dime back for it despite the fact that they advertise a "complete satisfaction" guarantee for the life of all their products. BOTTOM LINE: Avoid this mattress if you are a heavy (i.e. +200 lb.) person, and especially avoid purchasing products from Brookstone.

Incompatibility with hemiplegia
by seguina ,May 08 '05
Pros: See review
Cons: See review
Although the Tempur Pedic mattresses might be excellent for healthy indiduals. They are absolutely useless for individuals who have suffered a stroke. Given a stroke victims inability to sleep on his side because of total paralysis of the left arm and leg or right arm and leg. They are confined to sleep on their backs. After a 5 or 6 hour sleep period. The stroke victim emerges from a non restfull sleep comparable to sleeping on a box spring or concrete floor. A coil mattress is much more preferable for stroke victims. No amount of mattress padding will circumvent this physiological reality that resembles rigor mortis.

Tempur-Pedic - Did NOT last - NOT worth the money!
by opman ,Dec 13 '04
Pros: Great for the first four years.
Cons: Rock hard in a cool room. Back aches, morning stiffness after four years of use.
For the first four years that I owned the mattress, I loved it. I am now six months into the fifth year and I am very disappointed. We just purchased a new bed to replace the tempurpedic - a four and one-half year old Tempur-Pedic. Unbelievable.

Another downside to the mattress is that an average couple cannot rotate the mattress as is recommended by the company. The mattress is EXTREMELY heavy. I am a 6'4" tall male who wieghs 225 pounds and I have difficulty rotating the mattress. Forget trying to move it all. To throw the Tempur-Pedic in the trash - where it belongs, my wife and I had to bend the mattress in half and use a 2x4 slid through the mattress just below the bend. Otherwise, togehter we could not lift the mattress to carry it - it is just too heavy.

The warranty is worthless without the orignal receipt.

The customer service manager was a jerk when I spoke to him - an unprofessional talking-head.

Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

Caused Back Problems
by sarssippiusark ,Nov 23 '08
Pros: Looks nice, no sleep pros though
Cons: Cased back problems, expensive
I purchased the king sized deluxe tempurpedic mattress from a local store. I tried lying in it at the store and it seemed comfortable enough. However, after the first night I woke up with terrible back and neck ache which I had not had before. Many people seem to love these beds and I thought it would cure all my sleep problems. Instead it just created more. I weigh less than 150 lbs and think that maybe I just didn't sink into the bed sufficiently for it to provide the support needed. I know several other light weight people that had a similar experience. Fortunately, the local store will exchange any bed within 30 days. These beds are expensive so I would check on the return policy before investing in one just in case.

Tempur-pedic Classic
by gardengirl42 ,Jan 23 '08
Pros: Comfortable, met expectations
Cons: HOT-Retains body heat
We purchased the Classic model in August 2007. Previously we had a traditional inner spring mattress. We decided after having the mattresses constantly replaced due to sagging within 2-3 months (that will be another review) of it being delivered and subjecting ourselves to back and neck pain that we would go for the Tempurpedic.

I love it! I don't toss and turn all night, I wake feeling rested. I don't feel my husband toss and turn.

I have a herniated disk in my lower back and have had a disk fused in my neck. I was desperate for a good nights sleep.

The one thing that I do not like about this mattress is IT GETS HOT!!!!! I am always cold, and living in the midwest I wear warm pajamas during the winter, and have a warm blanket. Unfortunately, this causes me to wake up in a sweat most nights. I wish they had some sort of cooling mattress pad (like a chillo only a mattress pad.) If you are hot blooded or like to have lots of layers of blankets don't get this mattress.

Tempur-pedic Rhapsody bed horrible
by motokitty75 ,Oct 07 '08
Pros: none
Cons: not worth losing months of sleep and developing worse back problems! Expensive. smells horrible
do not go into a store to buy this bed if you are in pain with back problems unless you are prepared to feel horrifyingly worse for the 30-90 days they want you to let the bed break in. The rhapsody bed we got in king size didnt soften up, and I could barely get out of bed let alone carry and tend to my infant . Not to mention when it is cold the bed hardens even more!! We spent $6500, with the adjustable base. The matress itself is $3500.

Don't be tempted by the initial comfort
by bullen ,Jan 24 '09
Pros: Very comfortable for the first hour or two
Cons: Does not breathe; becomes uncomfortably hot even in winter
I have owned a tempur-pedic bed for 18 months.  The bed is still very comfortable when I first lie down.  But it doesn't breathe.  During the night it becomes uncomfortably hot.  I could never have imagined that the mattress was the cause.  I even bought a tempur pedic pillow recently.  When the smell of the pillow was so bad that it gave me headaches I did some searches and found many people are having problems with these pillows and mattresses.  I had tried many different blankets trying get comfortable.  Now it makes to me the mattress is the cause of my sleepless nights.  Don't buy one of these mattresses or pillows without doing searches to see all the people that have developed rashes from overheating the skin on the mattresses.  I wasted over $2000 and now need to get another bed.

Dont' ever buy one---Your health will suffer.
by sjurado ,Dec 10 '07
Pros: none
Cons: negative healthy effects, exposure to toxic & carcinogenic chemicals
If you're considering buying a TempurPedic bed, don't even bother. I bought one a year ago and even though I was tolerant of the horrible smell that came out of that mattress (called degassing) for a few months, I would never consider owning one again. Since owning this mattress, not only have I had more back pain but I've also developed deterioration of my hip and joints. I am trying to get rid of this mattress and I've decided to replace it with a natural latex foam mattress. The Tempurpedic mattress has a warranty of 20 years but it's pretty useless since they can't compensate me for all of the pain that I've gone through since owning one. If you're looking to buy a mattress consider one that does not use petroleum based chemicals---buy a latex or natural cotton mattress. It might cost more but you'll be happier and sleep more comfortably in the long run.

Bad customer service
by yunust ,Jan 16 '08
Pros: Very comfortable. 90 day return with no questions asked.
Cons: Toxic and unfriendly customer support. $300 hit to return.
My wife and I bought a delux tempur pedic bed, and when we got it, it smelled so bad we had to move it into an empty apartment next door. It was there for a month, and it still smelled. I went on-line and learned that it is full of chemicals that cause multiple health issues, especially noticible for infants, which we have. So wanted to send it back, as advertised. They did this with no questions, except for the delivery fee to and from, about $300. My wife called them to ask them if they could wave it because we don't have a lot of money, and we were not informed that it was so toxic. The woman on the other end of the phone could have cared less, and basically did what she could to end the conversation.

I didn't necessarily expect them to help us out, but was surprised at their attitude.

The bed was very comfortable - just incredibly toxic. Burned my throat after being on it for 5 minutes, after a month of airing out. We are going for an organic mattress.
