Pros: Delicious barbeque at reasonable prices Cons: the bugs on the patio, bad interior decorating
I recently saw a commercial for The Bear Pit on cable TV. I was hungry, and the food looked delicious! So I told my husband a couple weeks ago that we were going to try The Bear Pit for dinner that Friday night. The Location The Bear Pit is ...
Pros: Best Bar-B-Cue Turkey Sandwich in the San Fernando Valley Cons: Their Men's Room sucks. Not a nice place to visit
The Bear Pit is one of the San Fernando Valley's oldest Bar-B-Cue Joints. For over 30 years they have been serving up some of the best in the west. Go there any day and have the Turkey Sandwich. It comes with choice of beans and cold slaw, with pickles...
Some of the Valley's Best BBQ by wantacpa ,Sep 24 '03
Pros: Awesome sandwiches and beef ribs. Cons: No low-cal dressings (as if it matters)
The Bear Pit has been around as long a I can remember (I've been eating there since I was 5). The menu hasn't changed and it doesn't need to. The BBQ sandwiches are 'da bomb (try the BBQ lamb for a change of pace) and don't forget to order it on the garlic toast. But what I like the best is their beef ribs. These are undoubtedly the best I've had in California (I only had better ones in Texas). I've never had a bad meal here and the prices are fantastic.
Worth a drive from the Westside, Ventura County, or anywhere in SoCal to get some good BBQ vittles.
I love this restaurant. I have moved away to the deep south and every time I visit this is where I crave to eat. The Special on garlic bread is to die for.
In the south they say they have the best BBQ. Not true, in my opinion anyway. Wish I could take the whole place home with me.
BEST IN OLD FASHIONED BBQ IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY ! by customercop ,Oct 28 '09
Pros: Tender meats, large servings, a great crudite plate while you are waiting. Fun, friendly, delicious! Cons: In my opinion, absolutely none...............
Ignore the comments about the decor and the men's room in the reviews below. I've never eaten in the men's room yet and the marvelous 1950's decor (not changed since I first ate there in 1959) is part of the fun. If you want to eat in a sterile place - there are plenty on Ventura Blvd for 4 times the price. Clean enough inside and where can you eat outdoors where never a fly is seen? Everything on the menu is delicious, tender, fabulous BBQ sauce. Super big fries, meaty on the inside, just a bit crunchy on the outside, no grease - just great! They have beef, pork and lamb! Where can you get lamb anymore? Prices are low, sawdust on the floor, old tyme cozy atmosphere-the BEST in L.A. for my money. Try it, you'll be delighted and happily FULL!
