Pros: Tasty, unusual food & exotic decor makes it great for out-of-town guests or first dates Cons: Not authentic (but not a bad thing); service is usually abysmal
Since we're moving from Rockridge to Millbrae in a week and a half, my boyfriend and I are trying to visit all our old favorites before the move. Last night we visited Blue Nile for the first time in a few years. About 10 years ago, Blue Nile was the ...
Pros: Excellent flavor, fun to go with friends Cons: A bit pricey for the size of portions
The Blue Nile in Berkeley is a very tasty and fun restaurant. If you have not had Ethiopian food before, get a bunch of friends together and go try Blue Nile.
OVERALL: A very fun place to eat. Definitely go with friends. Cozy atmosphere,...
Pros: delicious food, inexpensive prices, friendly service, reliably tasty Cons: not open Sunday for lunch
I have been going to the Blue Nile for 14 years and for good reason. The food is quite tasty and the people working in the restaurant are friendly and helpful.
When I first started going there my daughter was 6 years old and would only eat...
Pros: nice atmosphere, hearty meal for Ethiopian food Cons: Not a big deal
The Blue Nile is situated in a very vaunted position in Berkeley. Students and tourists all make the trek up and down Telegraph to check out the weirdos selling hemp necklaces, and to try dining at some unique restaurant.
Pros: excellent food Cons: atmosphere a tad dark and crammed, should make sure your hands are clean before dinner
One of Berkeley's greatest features is its diverse food establishments.
The Blue Nile, which serves Ethiopian fare, is a wonder. There are dishes for veggie eaters and meat eaters. A fun way to dine is to bring along several people and eat...
Pros: Good flavorful food, reasonable prices Cons: No forks .but they aren't needed
Visited Berkeley the Friday after Thanksgiving. Weather this time of year is perfect for fall. Cool but only a light windbreaker is needed.
We spent the day buying used books and trinkets .. "Bezerkey" still so much the same as in the late...
The Blue Nile, Good Ethiopian Food by jestove ,Oct 29 '03
Pros: Ye Doro Tibs Cons: None
Once upon a time there was a city called Berkeley and in this city there was a road called Telegraph Ave. On this road you may purchase many fine foods, but one of the most exotic is Ethiopian food. One such establishment is The Blue Nile. This place has fine food ranging from 10 to 13 dollars. I highly suggest the Ye Doro Tibs. A wonderful blend of chicken, spices, and rice made delicious by injera, a pancake/crepe sort of bread used as a utensil. You eat with your hands and injera, instead of a fork and spoon.
The service is fast and the wait for food is sort. The waitresses are nice and quick to explain that no they did not forget the forks.
The environment is casual and laid-back. It is easy to have a nice conversation because the noise level is low. Business is slow and the lighting is low. The cleanliness is not all I had hoped for. The decor was interesting. Reeds covered the walls and ceiling along with beads, baskets, and rugs.
I give it a 3 and a half stars of 5 stars.
