The Eminem Show, Welcome to The Marshall Mathers LP Redux

by kristinafh Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, May 27 '02
Pros: A mixture of nasty lyrics and rap/pop hooks.
Cons: He didn't expand beyond his comfort zone.
Preamble
What's a pop chick doing reviewing Eminem? Well, I recognize that no matter how slimy someone is on a personal level, you really have to separate the personal from the professional. In Eminem's case, he displays a...

Pros: Brilliant lyrics, decent music, great delivery
Cons: Blunt and could be offensive, "Drips" is gross
You can imagine my surprise when I walked through Media Play yesterday and saw that Eminem’s new album, The Eminem Show, was already out for the masses. It was originally scheduled to be released in early June, due to pirating it was slated for May...

The Eminem Show is Marshall's Ray of Light

by sslabs Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 07 '02
Pros: Eminem maintains his clever, quick, and devastating delivery
Cons: Still hung up on his Mom, Kim, and the mediocre D12 needs to go
Madonna always had an edge, until her style took a heartfelt turn when she had her first child and creatively gave birth to Ray of Light. Marshall Mathers, also known as Eminem now displays another side of his creativity, through the eyes of a...

by lynus Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, May 31 '02
Pros: Cool grooves and creative raps.
Cons: Vulgar, drags a bit towards the end.
286 total foul words. One every 17 (+/- 2-3) seconds. Kim, Eminem’s Mom, the government, the Vice President and his wife, Tipper Gore, various other rappers and pop singers, women, and handful of parents who fuel his career by continuing to bring...

The End is Nigh

by jimrex , Nov 13 '02
Pros: Fun to invent your own words to songs
Cons: I can't be the target market can I?
Overprotective mothers of the world rejoice! Eminem, Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers, whatever you care to call him, is done. The much vilified king of ultra offensive rap is no more. The game... to quote someone famous who I can't think of at the moment......

Eminem is back and has something to say (what else is new)

by ez013182 , Jun 09 '02
Pros: Personal lyrics, good beats, Emimem grows up (a little)
Cons: Repetitive subjects, Dr. Dre, bonus DVD
Well here I am, doing something that even I would not expect…I’m reviewing an Eminem CD. This means that I actually bought his album (the day it came out) and listened to it the whole way through. Me, a pop loving gay Latin male who actually likes Eminem...

The Eminem Show: A Life Exposed.....Admission: $12.99

by konspirator01 , May 30 '02
Pros: Eminem's lyrics and flow are as good as ever; fans will not be disappointed
Cons: intros/outros, a few sub-par songs, eminem sings (but it's tolerable and justified)
I've always liked Eminem because he is innovative and very talented. What I don't like though is how a lot of Eminem fans aren't really hip-hop fans. A lot of them are MTV-watching white teenage girls who think he's cute and try to pretend that they...

Guess Who's Back?

Pros: Solid beats, incredible rhyming skills, and less offensive than before...
Cons: but still foul, will offend the prudish, Drips is not a good song
I've been excited about this album ever since I basically fell in love with Eminem's previous CD. I read June 4, so I waited. Then I heard, due to internet piracy, that the ablum was being pushed back a week. Then again pushed back three days. I like...

THE EMINEM SHOW - TRACK BY TRACK

Pros: More catchy tracks. He sings well, believe it or not in track 14.
Cons: Same old, same old.

Pop Gimmick/Phony of the Millennium

by ztymaka , Nov 21 '02
Pros: Dr. Dre influence Get to see someone make a fool of himself
Cons: America is hugging Eminem when he takes aim at the very people that support him
Some compare this clown to 2Pac, some compare him to Elvis. I compare him to a wannabe clone of Vanilla Ice.

"It really comes to this question: Is music better when it's controversial? Songs always seemed more important when there was a story...

by lenzy77 , Jun 23 '02
Pros: i saw a softer side of Eminem
Cons: a lot of the same kind of beat throughout the CD

Marshall Mathers, also known as Slim Shady and Eminem. I...

Eminem on a down hill ride?

by theldog , Aug 21 '02
Pros: A few good hits
Cons: Lacks depth and sound of previous cd's
The newest Eminem CD is a great piece of work compared to much of the rap on the shelves these days, but compared to his last two lp's this cd definently lacks. I was extremely dissapointed as this cd in many of the tracks takes on an almost pop kind of...

Shady Strikes Again

by sed20 , Sep 22 '02
Pros: Great music beat combined with the "real life" lyrics equals another awesome album.
Cons: Still a little Vulgar and isn't quite as good as the Marshall Mathers LP
This is Eminem's third mainstream album, and by far his most complete. The Eminem Show has the rough and raw tracks such as "cleanin' out my closet" along with the hit single "without me" and finishes up the trifecta with an actual song to his daughter...

Pros: Same quirky lyrics, different subjects...kind of.
Cons: Lots of complaining, touchy subjects.
At face value, this is "just another Eminem CD." Underneath, for those willing to listen more than once, you can find the "real" Eminem, his pain and confusion flows under all the layers.

One thing missing from this album that has appeared in...

Cons: I will never look at sour cream dip the same way again.

The Eminem Show: What a Show!!
by your_critic ,Jan 02 '04
Pros: The songs are different from the rest of his albums, but still have Eminem's style
Cons: there aren't any cons, this album has great music
This album was great! I think it was the best that ole' Marshall has ever had. I've always loved Slim Shady. I like his style and he doesn't just shout out words, he puts hooks together so that they make sense. People rag on him for being offensive, but he says most of his lyrics just to get a rise out of people. I like how you can feel the anger of his words when he talks about his mom and his wife. You know that he speaks how he feels and he doesn't care what other people think. "My Dad's Gone Crazy" also show some humor on how his daughter must view him, it reflects how he doesn't take everything so serious. He does use some very strong language, so you might not want to share the unedited version of his album with your kids. The album has great beats and I recommend it to everyone.

Again?
by drkltsjggl ,Oct 24 '03
Pros: Eminem gets your money when you purchase this
Cons: repetitive, shaped, restricted, boring, and he has an annoying voice
Eminem has far surpassed any music quality he may of had. His last good album was Slim Shady LP, when he actually had to work for his public. Unfortunately, he keeps causing controversy, just so he can continue to display the whole, "Hey look at me!" persona. The quality of his raps have also decreased considering he knows his mindless pop-stardom, mainstream fans will buy it anyways. They would buy anything that has the word 'Eminem' on it, expect an ICP album.

Most of this becomes Dr. Dre's music, who also lost quality after he got out of NWA. Eminem used all of his talent on his first LP. He would need to seriously work on possibly creating another halfway decent album, which I don't forsee coming.

Sorry Eminem, your music sucks.
