"A sheet-metal Grendel forged in hell."

by panguitch panguitch is a Lead on Epinions in Books, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 02 '07
Pros: The ideas come together nicely in the end.
Cons: Over-inflated.
All dressed up with nowhere to die. Dan Simmons's Hyperion was daringly conceived, wildly uneven, significantly flawed, and intensely interesting. It also made no attempt to offer closure. Instead it set the stage for The Fall of ...

Spiders in the Web

by owling owling is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Books, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Oct 29 '03
Pros: Fascinating story; engrossing characters; wonderful concepts; intricate world and plotting
Cons: Bogs down a little toward the end in one spot
Hyperion Recently I wrote a review of H yperion, a science fiction novel by Dan Simmons. It was the first book in a series, and its tale is continued (and more or less concluded) in The Fall of Hyperion. ...

The Fall of Hyperion - Dan Simmons' completion of Hyperion

by mdoeden , Dec 04 '02
Pros: Compelling wrap-up of the first book - jaw-dropping ideas make for a great read.
Cons: Not a stand-alone; without Hyperion, you really can't enjoy this
I'll preface this review by saying that I found Hyperion, the first book in Dan Simmons' series, to be absolutely fantastic. Huge ideas, engaging characters, adventure, religion, all-powerful chrome demons - what more could we ask of a novel?

The sequel to Hyperion falls short

by hbomb , Jan 02 '00
Pros: Wraps up Hyperion, some good space scenes
Cons: Terrible ending, some glaring inconsistencies, plot turns for the worse
Unfortunately, as with most good science fiction series, the sequel fell short of what the original produced. Fall of Hyperion takes off where Hyperion left. The pilgrims are ready to take on the Shrike, while in the intergalactic scale, all hell is...

John Keats: Behind the Poetry

by agamemnon021 , Jul 23 '01
Pros: Somewhat exciting
Cons: Unresolved issues
Well, I'm not really sure where to start with this particular book. It made me laugh and cry, but not in a good way. It made me laugh at it's badly conceived ending and cry from it's terrible resolutions and half explained storylines. Our main...

Completely different from Hyperion

by iann , Dec 21 '99
Pros: Good story, epic storyline
Cons: Can't compete with the original
Fall of Hyperion is more than a sequel to Hyperion, it is almost the second half of the same book. That said, the style of the book is very different. The narrative is no longer confined to the planet Hyperion, but focuses on events...

Hyperion gets a great sequel

by rojothegreat , Apr 22 '00
Pros: Great ending, plot twists make the story come alive
Cons: This book has no sequel to continue right after it.
First of all Hyperion's sequel is a good book. Some people don't like it as much because it has a different tone then the original Hyperion but that is only natural since the characters are setup in the first book and now something big has to happen to...
