Pros: Strong comic performances, great writing, inventive use of the plot concept Cons: Dragged a little at times
While the concept for this film is not entirely original, the film nevertheless works for the most part. The premise for the film is that man never learned to lie.THE PLOTAfter a brief narration offscreen, Mark Bellison (Ricky ...
Pros: Excellent acting, intersting concept, great dialogue, star power. Cons: Simplistic and predictable at times. A tad bit sac-religious.
The concept of a world without lies seems strange enough. We are introduced to this world as the opening credits roll, giving way to a city overview, then tracking the male lead, Mark Bellison (Ricky Gervais), as he enters an apartment building and ...
Pros: Ricky Gervais, film's concept. Cons: Developed in the wrong direction, fails potential of concept.
Imagine a world in which everyone tells the truth. The concept of lying is just unheard of, there isn't even a word for it. No fraud, disception, flattery, or even little white lies. Low key comedian Ricky Gervais (who created The ...
Pros: Great cast, some very funny parts Cons: The basic tone, nature, plot, and characters presented in the film make it pretty unappealing
In one of the more shocking events of the weekend, along with it not raining on Sunday and the Bears getting crushed by the Bengals, I watched The Invention of Lying by the always reliable or at least somewhat watchable Ricky Gervais and ...
Pros: Hilarious first half, hard hitting irony Cons: Slow rom com formulaic second half
The Invention of Lying (2009) Written & Directed by: Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson Starring: Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Louis C.K. Imagine a world in which nobody could lie. Ricky ...
Pros: An original point of view. Cons: The problem(s) are bigger than can be dealt with in the film.
The Invention of Lying is the kind of movie that a nerdy guy should take the pretty A-girl to on a date, if he should be so lucky as to get her to say "yes." You know the dumpy, bespeckled guy who plays the part of the "PC" as over ...
Pros: funny, cliche-free Cons: a bit of melodrama towards the end
Ricky Gervais’ and Matthew Robinson’s The Invention of Lying is one of the better films of the year. I’ll leave it to the reader to decide whether that statement is the product of my strong atheistic bias or not, but that is the ...
Movie based on a crazy concept by jj8277 ,Oct 21 '09
Pros: good for a second choice Cons: Not as funny as I hoped
This movie wasn't a "Laugh out Loud" movie, but it was funny. I mean come on, think about life without lies. "You're baby is so ugly, it looks like a little rat" was one quote from the movie. "Im sorry you're early I was just masterbating" was yet another quirky comment. All in all it was a cute movie, but not as funny as I expected.
