Does YOUR Home Love You?

by JediKermit JediKermit is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Books, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jun 18 '01
Pros: Charming illustrations and story, lots of machines for boys and emotions for girls
Cons: I'm a sexist pig for writing the above "pros"
"The Little House" was one of my favorite books when I was a pup, maybe because I moved several times between the ages of three and five, so I wanted to see a place and time when having a house meant having a HOME.

Or maybe it's just a good...

The Little House That Longed to Be Loved and Lived In Again

by befus befus is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Books, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jul 01 '08
Pros: Delightful story; beautifully-detailed illustrations; captures change, passing of time, our need for "old ways"
Cons: Final pages could be read as an overly negative view of the city
If you're a children's literature buff and you hear the words "Little House," you'll more than likely think first of the classic series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Wilder's first Little House book, detailing her family's pioneer life in Wisconsin in the ...

The Little House: Gently Teaching Children About Continuity, Change, and the Sense of Belonging

by DAnneC Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 01 '01
Pros: Simple words, evocative illustrations, rich educational resource for young children
Cons: Fundamental messages dated to mid-20th century America, idealized portrait of rural lifestyle
Virginia Lee Burton's 1942 children's classic, The Little House, is not just another children's book. It won the 1943 Caldecott Award winner for children's literature, and it carries a stamp of approval from my daughter the kindergarten teacher....

The house that lasts forever

by Borger , Mar 21 '01
Pros: Cute story
Cons: none
This is a really cute book. It's great for showing your child that he should be happy with what he has and maybe what looks or seems so great really isn't.

Once there was a little house way out in the country. It was very pretty and very well...

Ageless appeal--Unique country/city/country tale!

by stuzle , Sep 30 '01
Pros: A wonderful and unique concept, beautiful detailed pictures
Cons: Honestly---NONE
Recently, my son became the 3rd generation in my family to fall head over heels in love with Virginia Lee Burton's THE LITTLE HOUSE. This wonderful book was published in 1942, when my mother was 2, and she can't remember a time when she didn't love it....

My Favorite Children's Book

by blimbach Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 22 '00
Pros: Wonderful story and illustrations
Cons: None
First as a parent (of sons now over 30-oh, no), then as a second grade teacher, and now as a grandmother, I love this book. I still have the one our sons read and used it in my classroom. Now, I "read" a new one, same story but in paperback,...

The Little House: 1942 & 2001!

by BonnieVA , Mar 12 '01
Pros: story, lesson, illustrations
Cons: Not enough people have read this!
At some time in my youth I was introduced to the book, The Little House. I had forgotten all about it until one day when I was at an outlet store rummaging through their books. They had several copies of The Little House that jumped right out of the...

My Children's favorite

by helencoy , Dec 06 '00
Pros: Happy Ending and Great Pictures
Cons: NONE
Although the author is better known for Mike Mulligan and his Steamshovel, this story is my children's (and my)favorite. It is a heartwarming story of a house that is loved for generations and then forgotten as modern day life - fast paced cars,...

My favorite as a child
by gring7 ,Feb 27 '07
Pros: Illustrations, story, generations of the same family are an important part of the story.
Cons: None at all.
I grew up with this book. Was my absolute most favorite book. I remember being consumed by the illustrations as they're beautiful and so much going on in them. The story must've had some sort of effect on me because I feel an odd sadness every time I see an abandoned house. My husband says, "It's probably because of that Little House book!" I will definitely be reading the same book that was read to me to my future children. Wonderful book that I still love to read.
