Summary: Every Christmas season my wife and I make time to sit by the fireplace with the tree lights on, have a drink with refreshments and play SCRABBLE with music in the background. There was a time when I would win most games. Those days are over. It has ... read more

Pros: It's probably the best choice out there... Cons: ... although I have a few reservations.
Summary: If you're going to be a serious Scrabble player, you need an "official" Scrabble dictionary by your side. Not to look up words beforehand (that would be cheating) but to settle challenges. Why? Because Scrabble is a word-game but only ... read more

Pros: Easy to find words, brief meanings, approved by Milton Bradley Cons: Are you better off investing in a regular dictionary?
Summary: Have you ever known someone that is completely brutal when it comes to board games? They are ruthless, never bend any rule and will use the challenge option at the drop of a hat. That, in a nutshell, is Tommy. I have one of the deluxe Scrabble ... read more

Pros: Extensive listing of words, shows what words are acceptable for the game Cons: Some words strange and not included in a "regular" dictionary
Summary: You are playing Scrabble. Your opponent makes the word aa. You challenge, claiming it isn't a word. It is not in your average dictionary. You whip out the golden book-and low and behold, find that aa is actually a word, or at least allowable in the ... read more

Pros: A very handy reference. Better than a standard dictionary Cons: Omits some OWL words. No longer has the 2 letter word page.
Summary: If you play Scrabble, you absolutely need this book.
Let's give an example: a heated, hotly contested game with my Dad and brother. I play "bendy", as in "a bendy straw". I get challenged. The dictionary in the house doesn't have it. I ... read more

Pros: Large type, great for crosswords as well as Scrabble, hardcover edition sturdy Cons: Paperback edition not bound very well, some words missing
Summary: The 3rd edition of the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD) is a huge improvement over the 2nd edition. The typeface is larger, and the glaring typos in the 2nd edition have been fixed. The vocabulary includes both modern words and (some) Canadian ... read more

Pros: Covers about 98% of the words that you will ever see in a game Cons: Missing a few words that should be there.
Summary: Scrabble between me and my Mother was a pretty one-sided contest, given that I was around 10 years old, and she in her 30's! Later on, I was able to fare better, but she held the mental edge!
Nowadays, I play against my wife, and she is the ... read more

Pros: Anything to do with Scrabble has to be a "pro". Cons: There are some words that aren't found that are in fact legitimate Scrabble words.
Summary: I love playing Scrabble. I've played for years, and humbly admit I win a fair number of the games I play. A year ago a friend bought me the Scrabble Dictionary, which now accompanies me at these games.
