How do you explain The Prophet

by grandgram Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 11 '05
Pros: A book to guide you through everyday experiences.
Cons: Nothing

A Prophecy of Grand Proportions

by mothermeatloaf , Aug 22 '01
Pros: Powerful metaphors; accessible even to those who think they do not like poetry.
Cons: Not one exists between the covers of this tome!
I was married in 1997. My wedding invitations, though somewhat understated, were dappled with so many quotations from Gibran that the elderly members of my family would begin speaking to my wife by saying, "So, Kahlil, are you excited about the wedding?"...

A guide to life for humanity.

by dulljman , Apr 30 '03
Pros: Enlightening, heart-warming, un-preachy. A truly unique literary experience.
Cons: None. Oh alright, maybe some sentences are needlessly complex (REALLY nitpicking now).

Pros: Too numerous to mention.
Cons: None.
After reading "The Prophet" for the first time, I was not quite sure what I had just read. Was it poetry or philosophy? Fictional literature or a sermon?

The story itself is simple. Almustafa is getting ready to return to his...

Probably this is what ancient Indians referred to as 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' The first time I read 'The Prophet' - I didn't realise what just hit me. Earlier when for the first time I had read 'Illusions' by Richard Bach - something similar had ...

by poet831 , Jul 22 '01
Pros: Wonderful book of wisdom to treasure and live by
Cons: None.
Those who have not read any of Kahlil Gibran's work, and who are unfamiliar with the man, would surely find "The Prophet" a worthy introduction. It is an intensely spiritual work, written as a simple tale. Gibran's writing offers solace when one's mood...
