Pros: A classic must-read for everyone. Cons: None.
This book is a compilation of various pamphlets about financial success originally published before the stock market crashed in the nineteen-twenties. Set in Babylon, the wealthiest ancient city, these short stories illuminate some very basic financial...
Pros: Motivational tool works for some Cons: Monotonous, belabors points, entertainment value isn't worth the time required to read it
I am going out on a limb and disagreeing with all the previous reviewers of this book. It seems that most of them had their lives changed by this book, so their enthusiasm is understandable. This book didn't change my life, so my view is perhaps more ...
Pros: easy to read, good information and advice Cons: none
I'm not kidding. I have been giving this book as graduation and/or wedding gifts for the past 15 years. I always get a thank you from the recipient, but more than once I have gotten a thank you from the graduate's parents or the groom's (never the ...
This book is an excellent source of advice on finances.
About the author:
George S. Clayson was born in 1874. He made a career in publishing and was the first to publish a road atlas of the U.S. and Canada. In 1926 he began to publish...
It is certainly the goal of many people to become wealthy and successful. Who would have thought that the secrets to achieving wealth could have been found in ancient Babylonian tablets?
Pros: Nice little parables Cons: Nice little parables
Achieving a successful financial life is not rocket science, and after reading "The Richest Man In Babylon", you believe that even infants can do this. George Clason's book has become a classic in the financial market, attracting more than 1.5 million...
Pros: pay yourself out of every paycheck. invest in yourself Cons: does not cover investing your money in detail enough for greatest benefit.
The "Richest man in Babylon" is a good resource for looking at your own financial situation. The book is written in simple to understand language that in simple terminology says pay yourself first.
No book has ever helped me as much as this one did, and I mean this. At first, I was really sceptical about this. I was all like, nobody can teach me how to save money or get rich, because: first of all this guy was from the US, the richest country in...
Pros: Cheap, but you will learn a lot, easy story like reading Cons: none
This is a great book for anyone who would like to be rich, and recognizes the consumerism programming that modern day media forces down our throats. It reiterates common sense viewpoints about the handling of money that you probably already know, but...
Pros: fast, simple, good parallels Cons: not required in school
What a great, fast little book. Anyone can read it in an afternoon, and it is just full of simple wisdom. Thinking back, these are the same truths that my grandfather preached year after year.
Investment Advice: For 4,000 years ago or today by jmalandt ,Feb 26 '07
Pros: Simple concepts that are relevant today. Cons: Sometimes a little difficult to get past language style.
This is one of the better investment books that I have ever read. It was referred to me by my barber. I borrowed it once from the library and then decided to buy a copy. In today's day and age when everything is so high tech, this books gets back to the basics. The main theme of the book "pay yourself first" is ignored by millions of people today. The book talks about being frugal, investing in things that you understand, seeking advise from people who manage money well (not your broke friends and relatives), understanding that no matter how much money you make there is a limit to what you can buy and paying off those you are in debit to. If everyone in the United States followed the ideas of this book, we would be as rich as the ancient Babylonians.
Pros: 1. Teaches about saving.
2. Leaves you with a basic plan Cons: None
This book contains great parables written before the depression about saving money and the trials and tribulations of investing. Even though it is written about people that lived in ancient Babylon, the author discusses points of investing that metaphorically are pertinent in present day times. This book kind of reminds me of the old Bible Story books that were popular when I was a kid in the 70's- but this book has no religious intent in it.
The book is a quick read and one I highly recommend.
Pros: Pay yourself first! It works! Cons: I only found it 6 years ago!! DARNN!!!
I read this book several years ago and it changed my life. My wife read it as well and within a year we were debt free and building a portfolio. We now give this book to family and friends as presents. It is my standard Christmas gift to new friends and business partners and wedding present. My lawyer loved it! My wifes OB loved it! What can I say? If you care about someone, you owe it to yourself to give it to them.
Just simply follow the neatly laid out guidelines and you will see results in less than a year! PAY YOURSELF FIRST! It works! Its that simple. The laws of gold have not changed the only question is..do you have the discipline to acquire gold and become the richest man [ or woman] ? This is a classic that has stood the test of time!
