I'm sick and tired of Raul; kill him off -- please!

by JazzcatCB , Jan 30 '02
Pros: Conclusion to a great series; story gets interesting in last half of book
Cons: Excessive detail description; plot gets sidetracked frequently; Raul (sometimes)
"If something doesn't happen here soon, I'm gonna WHACK OUT!"

Remember those words from Calvin and Hobbes?

That's how I felt many times while trudging through page after page of scenery description in the first half of Rise of...

A glorious failure

by mkwensky , Oct 14 '00
Pros: rousing adventure with interesting ideas
Cons: some uninspiring characterization

Weak ending to a great series

by KenRona , Sep 26 '99
Pros: Great writing. Rest of the series is excellent
Cons: Unsatisfying ending to the series. The device that the salvation of the universe depends on is corny.
Look elsewhere.

The book is tying up all of these loose ends that have developed in this rich world Mr. Simmons has created. The first three books should be required reading for anyone putting together a detailed sci-fi world. Groovy. I was...

Hyperion fans must read

by vpearson , Dec 17 '99
Pros: characterizations, ending
Cons: overly tidy plot
The concluding novel to Simmon's Hyperion/Endymion series disappoints a little, but overall is a must read for his fans.

As with any well-written continuing saga, our old friends Endymion and Aenea are remet as the pages unfold before the...

A must-read...

by mark_davidson , Sep 08 '99
Pros: Well written, engrossing, great moral story
Cons: You MUST read the others first (or it won't make any sense)
I fell in love with Dan Simmons when I discovered "Hyperion" and was quite excited when he published the 3rd and 4th (and supposedly, final) books in this wonderful series. While it's pretty imperative that you read the first 3 books before...
