The dual-tuner TiVo finally addresses the only issue I had with the "regular" TiVo. Namely, that you cannot watch (with TiVo) a live show while another records.

Now, you can:
- Record two shows at once
- Record two shows at once and watch a third previously recorded show
- Record one show and watch/pause a live show. (essentially the same as record two shows at once)

The brushed aluminum styling is nice.

If you have standard analog cable (no set-top box), this is the TiVo unit for you.

You really do not get your money's worth paying for cable if you do not have TiVo.

Pros: dual tuner, learning, Internet features.
Cons: Poor UI for the guide.

Let me start by saying that I love my Tivo. I recommend it to my friends all the time. Everything works great - recording, learning, PC syncing, easy setup etc.

The one complaint I have is that the guide sucks. It is slow, doesn't allow me to set reminders (if I don't want to record), and it covers the whole screen. My digital box did a much better job of providing a useful guide.

Pros: Easy to use, sweet picture that doesn't wiggle or get snowy like VCR tape.
Cons: You either pay for the programming updates, or it's useless.

I love TIVO....it's a great product. We had 3 VCR's in our house and none would agree with one another. Tape in one VCR and try to watch it in another VCR and it was a nightmare. So, we moved on to TIVO. Long story short: Got divorced, moved out, wife kept TIVO. So I bought a used TIVO on Craigslist for $30 just so I could tape 3-4 hours per week. It is supposed to let you set it up to manually record (ex...Channel 7 Thursday nights 7-9pm). Only if you pony up $13 per month for the programming updates, according to the TIVO support line. I only have 10 stupid channels to pick from on my TV....I don't need the programming updates. Too bad says TIVO. Spending $300 on the first TIVO and another $350 for the lifetime update service is enough money out of my pocket. I guess I'll just head to WalMart and buy a $29 VCR.

I thought TiVo would make a nice Christmas gift for my elderly parents, who have to get up and leave the room frequently while watching TV. Unfortunately, within 24 hours of ordering from these idiots, they managed to send my parents two emails notifying them of the service (I, on the other hand only got one). As soon as I found out that the $460 (including a remote and a three-year subscription) I had just spent on them was no longer a surprise, I called to cancel. After 47 minutes on hold, I was told that they couldn't cancel. I can, however, wait for the shipment to arrive, refuse it, wait for it to get back to them and wait for them to credit my card, all while I don't have those funds available for a replacement present and while I am paying interest on the use of the money. Thanks for nothing.
