Pros: Increased distance compared to old DCI
Gold irons Cons: Smaller sweet spot- less forgiving
Let me begin with some perspective on why I selected the Titleist 762s. I am a 10 handicap golfer who plays once a week. I have hit Titleist irons since 1974 and have found them to be consistently solid performers. In fact, my iron play is the best part...
Pros: look, titelist, durability, pure feeling Cons: Grips
I have owned these clubs for the last 4 years and absolutely love them. I played high school golf for the last four years and countless times have had people try and convince me to switch to some newer clubs but I just cannot get myself to switch from ...
Pros: Quality. Minimal offset. Thin topline. Good shafts. They're cast, so will last forever. Cons: They're cast, so will not feel "quite" as buttery as a forged iron...
Having played a variety of iron styles over the past 15 years, I've recently gone back to these "older" cast DCI's. I have played off a 3-8 hcap during this time and have pretty reasonable ball-striking. What I've found with some forged clubs is that they are lovely and soft feeling, but if you play a lot you'd need a new set within 2 years. I'm not gonna try and tell you the DCI's are as soft as something like a Mizuno or Titleist forged iron. They're not. To me though, they feel just fine. They have very little offset, a nice thin topline and come with Dynamic Gold shafts. They have a good solid, heavy feel to them, which encourages you to power through the ball. They're NOTHING like the Callaway X-series irons for instance!
I've had no trouble hitting fades and draws with these and can vary the trajectory pretty well. Overall they are just an honest, solid iron that will do the job for you. Best part is you can get them very cheaply now, so you'l have money left over to spend on fancy wedges, driver, hybrids and a nice putter.
