Pros: Lots of food for your $$ Cons: Can't count on the experience to be the same at different locations.
I have visited two Todai restaurants and found them to be completely different. Quite frankly, I was grossed out at the Wilshire Blvd. location. The floor was filthy, the plates were old and grungy looking, the service was slow, the room was freezing...

Todai is over priced and food sucks!
by asul11 ,Feb 03 '05
Pros: The servers are nice and pleasant. Cons: Horrible food! Extremely overpriced!
I must say I've tried 2 branches of Todai. First in Beverly Hills and the most recent one is in Glendale. Both are horrible. This restaurant gives the Japanese dishes a bad name. Paying close to $30 bucks for dinner is such a rip off. I tried the sushi and it taste like I'm eating something frozen that was left to be thawed and served. It's NASTY! I almost threw up. There's an after taste as well. I also tried their hot dishes and they were all bland. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Avoid Todai in Huntington Beach, CA
by steve0296 ,Dec 06 '04
Pros: Wide sushi selection, good for trying new items. Cons: Sushi ok, everything else disappointing. Very poor value for the money.
Visited the Huntington Beach location. I can't say when I've found a restaurant to be a poorer value for the money. The sushi was mostly ok. A couple items had an off taste, but most were serviceable. The hot food bar was a huge disappointment - mushy bbq fish, soggy tempura, greasy fried rice, chewy beef. lukewarm appetizers - the only item that was good was a sauteed vegetable dish. There were about 10 dessert choices, I choose a pear tart that was inexplicably frozen, cantaloupe that was tasteless and a cream puff which was ok. It's rare for me to spend over $25 a person for dinner. When I do I expect really good food. Todai didn't deliver. I would recommend it only if you want to eat a lot of sushi and don't mind if the quality is a step back from your neighborhood sushi place.

AVOID Westchester LOCATION
by yankelover ,Sep 24 '05
Pros: NOT HAVING TO GET UP AS MUCH(OR EAT AS MUCH) Cons: No more help yourself sushi
Sushi buffet? NOT ANYMORE .At the Westchester location they changed it,now you order the sushi at your table and the waiter brings it to you a little at a time with a long wait between orders, you can still eat all you want but you are only allowed a certain amount at a time, purpose i guess to have you fill up on there hot and cold buffet such as fried rice and noodles while you wait for the sushi,so in my opinion avoid, still calling it a sushi buffet is deceiving

very disappointing, avoid it at all cost!
by shoortie ,Aug 25 '07
Pros: place is huge so you dont have to wait to get a table Cons: bad service, dirty
avoid todai at virginia. Price was okay (around $25 per person at night) but it's really not a "all-you-can-eat" buffet. For example, you can only get two oyster at a time and the worst is you have to ring a bell for a lady to come out and give you the oyster. I was like???? this is a buffet good lord!!! sashimi lady was worse. She gives you 4 slices of sashimi each time (there were only 4 to pick from) and if you want all 4 type of sashimi, then you only get 2 slices. I think they really want their customers to eat fried rice and fried noodles. In that case, I could have gone to Panda express!!
Worst of all, there was a cockroach on my table. Will I go back and eat again? definitely not!

I'm sorry but I will never eat here again.
by kittydove ,Sep 04 '07
Pros: sweet TV's (Simpsons, Family Guy, there were little kids there, is that wise?); food= okay Cons: Disgusting bathrooms, bad service, odd layout, annoying signs telling you not to eat too much.
We reserved a table...which ended up not being there. 8 people, we're sending off my aunt's mother back to China. Since we don't have a table specifically set for 8, they give us 2 4-chair tables. They won't let us push the tables together, which was kind of a pointless fear, I'd say. Whatever.
My table orders 2 pink lemonades, a root beer, and a glass of water. We go to get food and squeeze past the tables crammed close to the walls, grab plates and go to the end of an unmoving line. Finally we get to the food and there's barely any left! Soon enough, though, more comes and we scurry on back to our tables.
Remember those lemonades? Well, somehow they turned into Ramunes, and the water into a Sprite. There are like no people there picking up plates, etc., so we have to wait a long time to get someone to switch the drinks.
The rest of the time, it's moderately alright, eating there. Nothing out of the ordinary happens...same old. It's a weird restaurant, though. I'll probably stick to stuff that I'm more comfortable with.

I thought I could eat anything...
by fatgabycat ,Jul 16 '05
Pros: I had the restaurant to myself at noon on a Friday! And they validate parking. Cons: Poorly made sushi. Enough said.
Todai on Wilshire proved me wrong...so terribly, terribly wrong. I am not a sushi snob. I *adore* sushi buffets, and can usually stuff myself for hours. The sushi here looks like it was slapped together by disgruntled cafeteria workers. Most of the rolls were falling apart before they even reached my plate, and I have never seen tuna cut so thick--it couldn't even drape over the rice (which was unbelievably gummy and flavorless). And where's this selection I keep hearing so much about? In total, there were probably 10 varieties of sushi, 8 salads, some tempura, miso, and fruit for dessert (none of the delicious cakes I was promised). In addition, they force you to eat shabu shabu or something they're erroneously calling bul go gee, which here is just beef cooked in some broth rather than the delicious Korean dish I had expected. I pushed myself to eat what I could (got to get my money's worth, after all), and yet I left feeling empty. So disappointing...
