Pros: Easy to use, portable, clear and understandable screens and voices, not too expensive Cons: Mediocre maps, battery is ok
I have turned down the GPS option on our last two cars. The reason being that I just did not think we would use it enough to make it worthwhile. I drive a lot for work, but usually to the same places. My wife has a few different routes in her daily ...
Pros: Easy interface, good maps, intelligent routing Cons: Expensive, "plus" features cost extra
TomTom Go 300 I purchased my tomtom unit about a month ago and recently used it on a trip from Massachusetts to Virginia. Despite lots of rain and bad weather we arrived at our destination stress free. Overview For those unfamiliar with ...
Pros: Easy to use, accurate, good reception/lock Cons: Dated maps, doesn't always give best route, not "off road" friendly
As the office expert on GPS technology, my boss asked me to test out his new Tom Tom GO 300 for him and let him know how to setup and use. This gave me a chance to evaluate it as well for a review here. It is perfect for use in the car, especially ...
Pros: affordable, easy to use Cons: just a "basic" GPS; no text to speech
I was recently in the market for a budget-friendly GPS system for my husband. Neither one of us need a GPS system on a daily basis, but we felt it would be nice to have one for our occasional road trips. Two months before the holiday season, I ...
Pros: Good quality hardware. Nice looking display. Intuitive user interface. Cons: Woeful maps organization. Old maps. A little too bulky for truely portable use.
The TomTom GO 300 is basically a Pocket PC, a GPS device, and a speaker, all rolled into a single unit. It's about 2" thick which means you won't be dropping it into your shirt pocket for a stroll around the city. The user interface is very easy to ...
Pros: Ease of use, good display, great voice directions, portibility. Cons: Display hard to see in direct sunlight, maps about 2 years old.
I've owned the Tomtom GO300 for about 7 months now (great Christmas gift from the wife!) and I've found it to be really easy to use and very accurate. Open the box, plug in the SD card and turn it on. To aquire a GPS signal takes usually less than a ...
Pros: Very reliable; Can save frequently used addresses and select fastest or shortest routes. Cons: Does not pick up duplicate street names
I purchased my TomTom August 2006, when I got a job as a local courier for a delivery company. I simply could not have done this job without TomTom. I really like the fact that I never had to enter the address of my current location; I only needed to ...
Pros: Good signal acquision, lots of different voices to choose from or download Cons: Difficult to connect to the mount, maps out of date, website and customer service suck
Good value for an inexpensive, low-end GPS. I compared several models on CDNet.com, and chose this one because of the features at that price level. Also, CDNet shopping allowed me to purchase it from a retailer at about 1/2 the normal price that the ...
Pros: It works most of the time. I rarely get lost anymore. Cons: Obsolete maps. Inadequate manual. Poor docking device. Customer service makes false promises - stalling.
I have had this GPS for about 8 months and discovered on my very first long trip that the USA maps are so out of date that they should be an embarassment to TomTom. Some addresses in neighborhoods established 40 years ago are not available. Highway ...
Navman X300-Great price and performance. by gazza152 ,Aug 19 '07
Pros: Accurate speed, distance and handy lap times which can be all stored and reviewed. Cons: Small display not easy to see if eyes not perfect or you are at speed!
Navman X300.
Bought from Dick Smith store in Melbourne Australia for the small sum of $69.95.
They only have the X300 model and no Accessories but for the price who cares.
The X300 works well and has a lot of options which can be stored for later viewing and comparison.
I have compared it to my other GPS speed and distance devices and it seems very accurate, below 20mts distance and 0.5 klm speed.
Great buy !!!
Good Unit , very intuitive menus but absolutely NO customer service by rrdeng ,Dec 10 '05
Pros: Intuitive menus, reasonably up to date maps Cons: Absolutely no customer service, clumsy/ugly/large basic mount
The TomTom 300 lives up to most of what you read in the professional reviews. The intuitive menus are the most attractive of any unit I have tried. The maps are OK but I have found many confused directions in LA and San Francisco areas that involve U turns to get on freeways when there is a much more obvious direct way to get on the on-ramp. In short you cannot rely on the voice output but have to look at the map which can be difficult in sunlight. The car charger did not work out of the box and three attempts to get a simple replacement from TomTom Customer Service failed!! I called the customer service over several days (978-287-9555 note that it is NOT an 800 number) and was on hold for ever. I NEVER did get through to customer service. I eventually left three recorded messages as an alternative but still NO replies after a week. I returned the complete unit and will be buying another brand. Bad and sad for a basically a good product. The standard mount is antiquated ... just a poor engineering design.
Pros: Easy to use. Very detailed maps. Upgradable. Cons: Horrible tech support. Suction car mount is poor, GPS acquisition is slow
If you're looking for a very easy to use GPS, the TomTom GO 300 is simply the best GPS for the money. In short, the TomTom can be broken down into the following pros and cons:
Pros:
- User interface is very straight forward, menus well laid out
- Screen is bright enough that it can be seen during the brightest days and can be adjusted for safe night driving.
- Maps are very detailed, giving excellent directions most of the time. International maps can be purchased online for driving outside of the US.
Cons:
- Tech Support is awful. They call when they're ready, not when you are. Its very difficult to get a technician on the phone.
- The GPS acquisition time is slow. It usually takes about a minute to get a decent signal.
- The car suction mount loses its grip after a few months of sustained use
Tomtom technical service is useless!! by sterling59 ,Dec 27 '05
Pros: Don't have any since the unit will not work. Cons: No real obtainable customer service by telephone; or by an nonworking website.
I purchase a TomTom 300 on-line. I could not set-up the unit since insertion of the sd card would only result in a picture showing a card with a x slash through the card. While that would seem to indicate that the card was defective, rather than returning the unit I thought perhaps there was a technical answer that would result in a quicker fix than waiting a couple of weeks for a round trip on the unit.
On calling TomTom (and waiting 15 minutes on hold), the "agent" said that their procedures (created by TomTom corporate) only allowed them to take notes and someone would call back within 24 "business hours" (sounds like a minimum of three days to me); AND if I was not home when this call arrived, I would have to go through the same routine and wait again, and again, etc. This sort of procedure is customer unfriendly to say the least and frankly useless. Stay away from TomTom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great GPS - great maps, support, and hardware by eassoc ,Nov 18 '05
Pros: Nice packaging, easy to use, great touch screen, solid maps Cons: Pricy
The unit is awesome! Take it out of the box, and go.
One advantage over some other manufacturers is the external SD card which allows for upgrades, backup, etc.
I purchased this unit as a "demo" to get used to the SW and tools before buying the Navigator 5 which hooks up to the PDA via bluetooth. Another great product.
I have had NO problems with getting in touch with someone from support at TomTom, nor installing software or registering.
The routes are accurate, and connectivity is seamless.
TomTom GO 300 - Go For It! by lwoodley ,Dec 15 '05
Pros: Tele Atlas maps, Simple to use Cons: Entering a new location can take a while when you are new to the device
I'm new to the world of GPS but came across the TomTom GO 300 after hearing about it from friends. Since I've begun using it, I've been very impressed with how easy it is to use and how accurate the maps are (made by Tele Atlas). I was able to find streets that many regular maps would miss and navigate to them easily. It also responded well when I took a different highway exit than it advised and gave me appropriate directions on how to go from there.
Another fun feature is the different voices - I have to admit that I got a kick out of being told that I had reached the dark side (my destination) by Darth Vader himself!
