Pros: Detailed map of the Chicago area; spoken instructions including street name; easy to use software. Cons: Some advanced features such as traffic are available only through a subscription service.
I travel, a lot; not only back and forth to work, but for personal reasons are well. Most of my travel is confined to the area in and around Chicago, IL, but that is an immense area covering the better portion of northeastern Illinois. I ...
Pros: Inexpensive and miraculous. Cons: The *&%%##@@** !!! packaging.
The Tom Tom One is my first GPS receiver. I have been admiring these things for years, wanting one for the car,and yet saw that they were about $500 a copy, and said I might get one when the price dropped. Well, I found one at Targette for far ...
Pros: Large bright, clear display; Good sound Cons: Updated: See End of Review Below;
TOMTOM One XL-SMy ResearchThe prices have really dropped on many of the portable GPS devices including this model which can now be had for around $100 for a refurbished unit. And you guessed it, the price was finally right ...
Pros: Easy to use, Latest Map Guarantee, 4.3 inch screen, Highly customizable Cons: Weak windshield mount, Two hour battery life, Tele Atlas Maps, confusing services
MAKING THE PURCHASING In my world, the best laid plans often change without warning. Can the TOMTOM ONE XLS keep up with these changes and my spatially challenged family? The TOMTOM One XLS is exactly the same as the XL, except it adds ...
Pros: Easy to use and cost-effective. Cons: Does not have text-to-speech.
Like every other manly-man, I've prided myself on not needing directions. We all inherently know where we're going and how to get there, right? :) However, my wife does not (no, really, and she would be the first to admit it!). We both have the ...
Pros: Name brand, price, excellent performer, screen easy to see Cons: Does not have text to speech but have found this not a big deal
My wife got me this GPS for Christmas from QVC. It came with extras like a carrying case and AC adapter - a QVC today's special value. We have previously tried one of the Cobra gps systems that QVC offered (we returned it for several reasons) and we ...
Pros: lovely color screen, advanced verbal direction, slim and easy to store Cons: short battery life
This Tomtom was a gift from a friend knowing I love to road trip, but inevitably see more of the countryside than planned due to being lost regularly! Having recently moved I was forced into trusting my new "gizmo" and have to say have learned a TON ...
Pros: Fast satellite pick up and rerouting, clear voices. Cons: Operating system could be improved along with the routing engine. Lacks text to speech!
Have you been holding off buying a GPS? Recently I faced that same dilemma. I asked myself do you really need one? Are they worth the money and what could I do with one since I already know how to get to 98% of the places we visit regularly via ...
Pros: Large Screen, easy to use, low price Cons: Reliability could be an issue
I chose the Tom Tom One XL for several reasons, but the number one reason was price. At around $250 it had many features of the more expensive units. The most important reason for buying a GPS is for directions and The Tom Tom functions superbly. ...
Pros: Accurate, visible, free map updates, live traffic ability Cons: No text-to-speech
First thing is first; I am reviewing this unit for its primary function - use as a GPS navigation device. I will discuss its other functions but have given them very little weight in my rating of the device - I will expand on this later. I have used ...
Pros: Wide screen with lots of data, lightning-fast acquisition and recalculations, good maps. Cons: Poor mount, Very POOR Points of Interest (POIs), no auto-brightening/darkening.
I'll give TomTom a lot of credit; their product is very easy to use, more intuitive than most portable gps units, is lightning-fast on recalculations and satellite acquisition, and has a bright screen with plenty of data available at a glance. I just ...
Pros: Touch screen, visibility, spoken directions, ease of use. Cons: out of date maps? Suction mounting bracket - so so.
I purchased the ONE XL-S (spoken directions)from www.megagps.com (great site, good choices, good prices, quick shipment) and it is a great unit. In fact everything about it is great. Touch screen is great and easy to use my wife (non-techie to the ...
Pros: Large screen, ample volume Cons: Weak and limited mounting, confusing/inflexible support, buggy software
I've used the Tom Tom XL One for the past year and am now looking for a replacement. The XL One performs its GPS duties okay (mostly) once you buy additional mounting hardware and alternative power plugs. I'm hard of hearing so I appreciate ...
Tom Tom One XL (Doesn't work with hands free calling) by jsmitchell ,Jan 05 '08
Pros: Nice screen size, Good features, Touch screen, Slim, light weight Cons: No hands free calling, Menu is harder than Garmin which I like.
Great GPS (Does not work with hands free calling!!)
I wish the manual was more clear and the website. Tom Tom seems to build a good product but as always it was too good to be true for the price. I thought that the XL, because it had bluetooth would work hands free for calling WRONG! The unit uses bluetooth for weather and traffic only. That really made me mad because it seems to sound that way in all the literature. Don't be decieved. I would recommend the Garmin products as well they are really good. If you want a GPS with bluetooth hands free calling verify with the manufacture before buying. I bought a refurb off ebay with 90 day warranty for $200.
Until you have a GPS it's hard to appreciate by markneustadt ,Nov 20 '07
Pros: Solid unit, great performance, accurate touch screen Cons: Boot time a little bit slow.
I have a GPS unit in my car. Now, when I go somewhere in a car that doesn't have it, I don't feel right. It's weird. I decided to get a GPS for my wife. She does not have a built in GPS in her van so it was time to look for one.
For me, the choice came down to Garmin vs. TomTom. I'm sure the Garmin units are fine, but the 4.3" widescreen of the TomTom had me sold.
As far as the GPS is concerned, it works great. I don't really know what to tell you. The screen is crisp and clear. The touch screen works well... Actually, it seems to be a little more accurate than the unit in my car. In my car, I make a lot of typos. With the TomTom, it's much easier.
I like how the map view is a little "lower" so that you can sorta see out into the distance. It makes driving and following the directions easy.
