    Sep 5, 2009 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Bright, wide screen, easy to understand prompts, Text-to-voice commands
Cons: Points-of-interest listings can be too broad or too skimpy. Occasional wrong prompt.

Summary: I absolutely hate getting lost when I'm driving. Is there anything worse than having no idea which way to go? And inevitably, I get lost when I most need to be on time, such as going to a wedding, a business appointment, or an appointment with a new ... read more

  • Not impressed, should have bought Garmin

    Sep 15, 2010 by

    Pros: Very slim.
    Love the windshield mount.
"Lane Assist" is a big plus.
Cons: Street number resolution is wrong too often.
Points-of-interest partial name searches don't work very well.

Summary: I had really high hopes for my new TomTom XL 340s. It is very slim and the windshield mount is pure genius. That's where it ended.  The first time I used it, headed from the middle of nowhere to a particular restaurant it failed to get me ... read more

Pros: -Allows you to search for places with its Points of Interest option, i.e. nearby restaurants.
Cons: -Takes a long time for the map to get updated if you miss an exit.

Summary: I bought the TomTom XL 340.S Car GPS Receiver approximately 7 months ago because the roads where I live at change constantly and I am very bad at remembering directions. I live in the U.S. and I went on a road trip to Canada with my family ... read more

    IQ routing is questionable

  • Avoid Tom Tom for long distance travel

    Sep 26, 2011 by
    Rated Show
Pros: None, even the display is crowded and busy.
Cons: The long distance navigation is worse than the display. Get a smart phone!

Summary: The TomTom built into my vehicle is worse than useless for long distance navigation, as its speed assumptions, apparently fixed and not user controlled, are not realistic. While the interstate assumption seems fine, major highways always seem to use a 35 ... read more

  • Decent product, horrible customer service

    Jan 27, 2010 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Relatively inexpensive, gives good directions, easy to read.
Cons: Customer service? What customer service?

Summary: I bought an XL 340-S about four months ago. When I tried to subscribe to map updates, I couldn't do it online for some mysterious reason. I went through the process of asking for online help, but TomTom service apparently doesn't speak English too well, ... read more
