Pros: Small size, touchscreen use using fingertip only. Cons: Poor reliability, Bluetooth only on select phones.
This review is based on six months of daily use of the TomTom GO 700. I decided on purchasing this unit as a replacement to a Lowrance IWay 500C that I reviewed months ago because the TomTom is smaller than the Lowrance which partially blocked my view ...
Pros: Compact size yet large, clear 3.5" screen, excellent user-interface and software, vocal commands clearly spoken. Cons: Searching for POIs can be frustrating due to lack of information, still can't vocalize streetnames.
----- Where in the world is TomTom Sandiego? ----- I hope I'm not the only one that remembers the incredibly catchy tune by Rockapella which played during each episode of WITWI Carmen Sandiego. I know it's been about a decade (yeah, I ...
Pros: Good user interface, ease of use, remote control. Effective feature set. Cons: Partial Nokia phone support. Limited PC support. Lacks goodies.
I am new to satellite navigation. My primary motivation for buying such an accessory is leisure road trips. None of my 4 cars has satellite navigation (was not a customary option or simply not available at all when I bought them). Regardless, I would ...
Pros: Accuracy, quick fixes, good sat reception, battery power, hands-free for Bluetooth cell phones Cons: Terrible maps (North America), terrible routing, clumsy UI, lousy POI database for North America
I've been an avid user of off-board navigation devices for some time now, and am fact am an industry analyst on the subject matter. I've used GPS devices, Garmins, PCs linked to GPS units, Magellans, phone-based solutions and in-car SatNav. Every one of ...
Pros: Bluetooth, compact design, advanced route planning features, touchscreen Cons: Bluetooth incompatible with Verizon, inferior maps
I had a very difficult time deciding between the Garmin c330 and the TomTom Go700. I first decided on the TomTom model because of the Bluetooth phone compatibility, but returned it because it did not work with my Verizon phone. I now own the Garmin and ...
The TomTom 700 is such a poorly designed GPS. I have had a number of addresses where the system will lock up when you enter the address to go. Support says it is fixed with a new software update, but I can't be bothered as the overall system is so ...
Pros: Fairly reliable unit.
Easy to use. Cons: Too many map errors.
Very poor customer service.
I received a TomTom Go 700 as a Christmas present in 2005. This review will not be a “how to” but just experience related issues. Overall, I have been pleased with this GPS. My main complaint is the length of time it takes from initially turning the ...
Pros: size, packaging, interface, bluetooth capability
signal strength, speed of routing, internal battery Cons: weird routing choices,
directions not always clear or correct,
weak poi database AND interface
I own a very old (5 years), very slow Garmin, so I'm not a GPS novice, and I was VERY excited by the TomTom 700's small packaging (5x5inches)and blue tooth capabilities. The touchface screen interface is sweet, easy to use. THe menus were easy to ...
Pros: Bluetooth functionality,
Map clarity,
POI detail including phone Cons: No anti-theft features (lock),
Navigating to point on map,
Labeling not overly intuitive
This unit was recently stolen out of my car... I'm thinking about buying it again (at the right price; bought it the first time for $299 on AMEX's Wish List). Bluetooth worked great with my Motorola Q. It would have been nice for the address book to ...
Pros: Very easy to use.
Robust construction, good carry case.
Good value.
Simple clear interface. Cons: Tricky to clip on to the mount.
Screen could be brighter.
I bought the Tomtom Go 700 because I wanted to give my partner a break from having to map-read on our holidays. Also because I've always wanted satnav in my car but never had a car with it built in (and the built in ones worried me - what if the one in ...
Pros: Great idea Cons: On dash installation design not reliable. Terrible and inconsistent customer support.
I received a Tomtom unit for Christmas from my son (Dec 2007). I held onto it a while and then installed it about March 08. It fell off the dash just after I installed it. Later I learned this was a common problem with these units. A black blob ...
Pros: Bluetooth, and the so called GPS functionality Cons: Too many to list
I bought this unit after a friend recommended it to me (without doing my research) I went out and bought it (big mistake). This is my first GPS unit. Here is my feedback after using it for 2 months. A list of my issues are: 1- The POINT of ...
Pros: User interface, ability to configure, size, speed, Cons: route choices, maps, lack of support
I've had this unit for a couple of weeks. Just returned from a long trip (Columbus, OH to Danbury, CT) and have some observations. First it was fun and easy to use. The menus and choices were pretty clear. The 3D view was easy to read and the voice ...
Pros: You can go to any city and you can use this unit while walking. Cons: Bad overall customer service and long waiting time on the phone; poor upgrade software.
I bought my Tom Tom 700 over a year ago. It was the hottest device on the market, but the maps are always outdated. The Tom Tom 700 got me from point A to Z without any problems. But, I just ordered the upgrade CD and finally had to call customer service ...
Poor TomTom Customer Service by badakita ,Jan 21 '08
Pros: neat idea, compact, less clutter Cons: does not work, long wait for help, and lack of help
I have had a Navigator 6 for a year. The idea is geat, having software run on my Treo. One less thing on my dash. The reality is, it has gotten me lost several times, more often than not it does not connect to the Bluetooth antenna, and it does not find a lot of addresses.
When trying to contact Customer Service on several occasions to resolve these matters, I have waited on hold for 40 minutes, 55 minutes, and 48 minutes, before talking with someone. I was given new software which was able to find my home now, but got me only within 10 miles of my next destination.
I believe that it is clear I would not recommend this product or this company.
