Pros: keeps plants away from the ground's insects and potential diseases Cons: super heavy when full of dirt and water, not extremely durable after first use
I garden every year and grow my household's favorite vegetables. Although I don't care for the taste or texture of tomatoes, my daughter loves them, so I always put out about 10 plants, figuring I could use the surplus to can sauces. Every single year ...
Pros: grows tomatoes well and resists pests Cons: heavy heavy heavy!
You've all seen the hard-sell infomercial about the Topsy-turvy upside down tomato container. And you've all wondered if it actually works. Well, my folks decided to purchase them for our kids as an Easter present and something we can do together as a ...
Pros: grows tomatoes seemingly from mid-air Cons: heavy; not easy to water
Chalk me up as another one who never thought I'd buy an "as seen on TV" product, only to purchase not one but two of these planters and be pleasantly surprised with the results. My wife and I gave each other knowing smirks and a roll of the ...
Pros: Entertaining; could make it possible to grow tomatoes in tough spots; no digging/weeding necessary. Cons: Heavy; more work than growing in a planter or pot; frequent watering needed
It finally got to me - that over-and-over-again TV ad for the Topsy-Turvy Planter, that goofy looking bag with a giant crop of healthy, ripe, red tomatoes growing OUT THE BOTTOM! I don't know about you, but I have never bought anything from one of those ...
Pros: An interesting concept... Cons: growth stunted tomatoes, lots of watering, nothing worth eating grew
Wow, I saw this miracle tomato planter on tv and just couldnt pass it up. My backyard has more cement than grass or dirt, so I thought this would be a great way to plant tomatoes this year. All of my neighbors were buying them, so I decided ...
Pros: None Cons: Container if too heavy when filled. tomatoes do not grow
I saw this product on TV and just had to have it. I have never had luck with planting a garden in the ground. It looked so easy and the way the infomerical explained the way the plants grow sounded right. I wanted the Topsy Turvy Tree, but is was ...
Pros: No rotting plants laying on the ground, uses a small area for large plants. Cons: Needs generous watering, heavy container.
I love to try goofy things and I knew the minute I saw this green hanging plant bag that I had to have it. I ordered it from the official web site (which was a mistake, considering the shipping was $15 for two planters) and got two planters for a little ...
Pros: No bugs or mildew! Cons: They dry out easily and are difficult to water!
I purchased several of these planters last summer to avoid bug and mildew issues with my tomatoes. While the Topsy Turvy did fulfill its end of the bargain there, it created a new problem: dried-out tomato ...
Pros: None. There is not one feature that is beneficial. Cons: Too many to name. It's heavy, hard to water, dries out quickly, etc.
I purchased one of these to see if they would be better than trying to grow them in a 15-gallon pot. I must say that I have never had luck growing tomatoes in containers, they need watered twice a day - and I live in Wisconsin, where daytime summer ...
Pros: The Topsy Turvy Planter can be hung anywhere you have a sunny spot. Cons: The planter needs to be on a strong pole or it will fall over.
I love the Topsy Turvy Planter. I no longer have to battle animals and weeds.Every year I'd go to pick a beautiful ripe vegetable and see that something already took a bite. Gary Dominicus
I am a master gardener-I know how to grow tomatoes
via in the ground
the topsy turvy is a joke what a waste of money
the stem of the plant just outside the opening rots
it is a waste don't bother-
you will do a lot better if you get a 5 gallon bucket
drill some holes-fill 1/2 way with dirt
plant tomato water when dry
I bought two of these pieces of Junk ,I planted tomato's in one and Cucumber's in the other. I never got one cucumber and only 1 tomato in three plants. Then to add insult to injury the bags are starting to deteriorate and rot. I followed the instructions and this is what I got. Do yourself a big favor and don't buy these pieces of junk
Pros: Absolutely no redeeming qualities! Cons: the worst idea, unworkable unbelievable. I tried it twice .
I tried this ridiculous invention twice, I followed their instructions to the letter, with the same dismal results. I am convinced that this ill concieved contraption would not grow dust.
Not a long term solution by patiogardener ,Oct 10 '09
Pros: They were fun to try Cons: Not fun after novelty wears off. Hard to water while hanging.
Bought several at a store that was going out of business for $4.99 That is about $2.00 too much because they used lots of soil to fill, lots of water to keep moist and now the material is rotting and will have to be removed after just one season. The tomatoes here in Calif that we planted in the ground are still producing and its Oct, but these have very few leaves left and I just took off the last of some rather small tomatoes. Won't try again with these.
One more thing to throw away. Hope the material is recylable
