Adventures In Lawn Mowing

by purplewiz , May 26 '01
Pros: No noise, no smell, easy start
Cons: HEAVY, lacks the power to cut larger lawns on one charge
For the first time in my 37 years, I learned how to mow a lawn today.

I wasn't actively avoiding lawn mowing for all those years. When I was a child, my father mowed the lawn - he once told me it was too dangerous for one as young as I, and...

It's your plastic pal who's fun to be with

by xlugxmiop Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 08 '01
Pros: quiet, not horribly heavy, no exhaust fumes
Cons: rather wimpy for foot-high grass, slightly fragile
I just bought a house...and along with it came the job of mowing the lawn, at no added extra cost. Came down to two choices: hire someone else to do it, or do it myself. And I hate the idea of paying someone to do such a relatively trivial job,...

Cordless mower fix

by NZ9E , Mar 03 '00
Pros: Quiet, no real maintenance, easy to use
Cons: Used to run out of power too soon
If you've never tried a cordless electric lawn mower, you're in for a treat!
I've owned and used the Toro E24 Carefree cordless mulching lawn mower (Model 20648) for nearly two seasons now and I'm delighted with it. I'd always owned gasoline powered...

I love this lawnmower

by daniels747 , Mar 22 '00
Pros: Light, Quiet, No bagging, no gas, no hassles, does a good job at mowing, good for environment, good for lawn
Cons: limited to 60 minutes a day, may leave wheel marks
I love the Toro E24 cordless recycler. Most people who own it now probably bought it because they were interested in being environmentally friendly. People who have to mow the lawn would probably buy this lawnmower regardless of the environment -- if...

Good for lawns less than 1/2 an acre

by sourpuss , Mar 04 '00
Pros: Mows very similarly to a traditional gas powered mower, but quieter and with no exhaust.
Cons: Limited battery life means if you can't complete the lawn in 60 minutes or less, plan to mow the front one day, and the back another day, or don't go with a cordless.
I read the other opinion about the guy who successfully modified his Toro 24V by installing a different battery system himself. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, this might be a realistic possibility. However, I personally wouldn't do it within the first two...

Best mower for small lawns EVER !

by like2know , Apr 25 '05
Pros: VERY quiet, lightweight, No bag required - mulches clippings into lawn
Cons: batteries are weak, wish it had a wider blade
My dad picked up this mower new in the Sacramento area during a save the air campaign. He took our old clunker from the 80's (man I hated pushing that thing) and traded it in for this beauty. This a great mower. It mulches the clippings back into the ...

Great for a smaller yard but you'd better like mowing frequently

by steven_snyder , Aug 15 '01
Pros: Quiet, plastic deck, mulch or bag or side discharge, no gas required
Cons: minimal power, fixed handle, narrow swath
It's simple to use and it mows pretty well, as long as your grass is fairly short and dry. There is allegedly a bagger for this, but I've read that it's pretty small. There are only two height adjustment levers, one for the front and one for the back....

Short Battery Life

by rssiegel , Sep 08 '00
Pros: Ease of use, quietness, weight
Cons: Battery life, battery availability, side discharge bag awkward
I purchased the E24 about 2.5 years ago. Up until now, it worked great. However, the battery has lost its ability to fully charge, and finding a replacement battery is difficult...and expensive ($100+ for just the battery). I called four local Toro...

Great for the Lawn

by diggdugg , May 25 '00
Pros: Never have to run to the gas station in the middle of mowing
Cons: can't handle long grass well
I bought the Toro E24 when my old Craftsman went belly up.(The shaft broke). Ever since my lawn has never looked so good. Mulching mowers are the best way to go. The only downfall is that it rains so often in Seattle that I can't mow on a rigid schedule....

Easy Start and Quiet

by tiffy2 , Sep 17 '00
Pros: Easy start, good for environment, quiet
Cons: Not self-propelled
Toro Cordless Recycler

After much discussion, my husband talked me into this one. I usually do the mowing (he swore he would if we bought this). Something in your way? Just stop and move it. No more struggling to restart the mower. No more...

Better than gas mowers.

by artchan , Mar 25 '01
Pros: No gas to fill, easy to start, and no catcher bags to empty!
Cons: Not good with really dense lawns
I purchased the toro in a county wide "exchange your polluting gas mower for credit towards a cordless electric mower" program. I'm really glad I did. Imagine this: No gas to fill, no hard starts in the fall and winter, and no catcher bags to empty!...

Nice, friendly mower for smaller lawns

by laze , May 09 '00
Pros: Effective, quiet, environmentally friendly
Cons: Has trouble with thicker grass, pricey
I recently bought a home and for the first time I had to deal with mowing a lawn (albeit a relatively small one on my 1/8th acre lot). After running over a cord numerous times as a teenager using an electric mower and not really caring for the idea of...

Nice but.....

by smacko30 , Jan 25 '00
Pros: A nice Toro cut
Cons: doesn't go very long on a charge
I bought one of these mowers because I was trying to reduce noise and pollution. This is a pretty nice mower and cuts like a Toro but overall i was disappointed because...The sales man guy said that it will last like 75 min on a charge. well it takes me...

THERES NO CORD

by jbird00 , Aug 30 '00
Pros: cuts
Cons: no cord
There is no cord on this mower whats the point. If there is no cord you cant steal power from other people like Scott. Scott uses the cord for many things he steals power. Uses it as a clothes line to hang wet clothes in his back yard. He also uses it...

New Batteries needed
by stevesky ,Sep 26 '05
Pros: Very quite
Cons: none so far
The Panasonic batteries finally died on me. Took the advice from one of the review and brought the Power Sonic PS12180 (12v, 18AH) from BatteryStore.com @35 a piece plus shipping. Boy, what a different that makes. You can check if the battery is bad this way. Measure the voltage across the terminals when the mower is running. If it doesn't hold the 24v then your batteries may need to be replaced. Mine dropped to 4.5v when tested. My old battery had F2 terminals. Check yours. It should be the same. BTW, any brand should work. Just pay attention to the voltage (24v total), and dimension.
