Toro's Recycler 20070: Helping my Dad help himself.

by Steelfan, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Aug 29 '06
Pros: Simple enough and tough enough. Great for people with health issues.
Cons: Bagger is too small. Mulching is so so. No throttle control.
None of us are getting any younger, so I learned this past year since my Father sold his house in the country and moved in town. His old house had about 2 acres of grass to mow and most of it was done by riding mower. I would help him with the trimming ...

Extremely disappointed

by gblackhart , Aug 04 '07
Pros: Electric start
Cons: Extremely poor mulching, transmission keeps going out on the self-propeller
I bought this lawn mower at Home Depot based on excellent reviews from Consumer Reports. I don't think I could be much more disappointed in a lawn mower purchase. When I first got it, it made this horrible, loud cranking noise, and didn't mulch worth a ...

First Impressions: Toro Recycler 20070 Home Depot XMas 2006 purchase.
by superdaveoz ,Dec 26 '06
Pros: Easy setup, reasonable price, nice looking, powerful and fairly quiet
Cons: heavy, single speed motor with govenor, pretty small bag (I will be looking for replacement)
Bought for $379.00 USD at Home Depot in Plano TX, USA on Dec 23rd. The Toro 20070 came highly recommended from online reviews. I looked at the Sears Craftsman product line, and it looked good enough. But the fact I see more Toro on the trailers of lawn maintainance trucks made me check Toro out. I did, and glad I did. 20 mins to take out of box, fill with oil, insert 40 amp fuse, fill with gas. 24 hours to charge the battery. 1/4 gallon gas and off I went the next afternoon mulching and wrangling my leaves and lawn. Mid winter and mild here, it was a great day to get out and do the lawn (thanks to global warming I guess). So far so good. Took 5 crankings to get fuel into the system and start the engine. After which it started up each time on one turning of the key. I turned it over 15-20 times while bagging and double mulching the leaves. The compost pile is 10 inches higher as a result, and the mower worked great.

Grossly overated by Consumers Report as a "Best Buy".
by roginwa ,Jul 05 '06
Pros: Variable speed drive is great.
Cons: Ineffective bagger and extremely noisy.
I bought the first one at Home Depot and had to return it the same day for an oil leak. The oil fill tube was cracked which could have been a shipping defect. The second one ran fine for about a week at which time the engine speed became very erratic and would end up with the engine running at full speed - this model does not have a speed adjustment - it's start and go. The bagger is essentially ineffective. More grass goes out between the lawn mower body and the bag than the bag catches. It's going back today to HD for my money back and to look for another brand.

Self-propelled...HA!! .....when it works
by rob3746 ,Jun 03 '08
Pros: Great, when it works
Cons: Fails to continue working
I bought my Toro Recycler 20070 two summers ago. The first summer, the "grinding-gear" sound signaled the stopping of the self-propel part of the attraction to this "Personal Pace" mower. This summer, after only three mowings, that same noise and failure has happened again. The local dealer is unhappy to work on this one because I didn't buy it from him. So, I'm avoiding taking it to him. Instead, I am using the old trusty Murray mower. I'm really disappointed in the Toro; I won't be buying another.
