I, like many of you, was immediately taken in by the cool style, eye-candy, and general size of the Gigabeat MP3 Player; not to mention the nice color screen oooooh. Now that we are over the first impression phase, lets take a look at the ...
Pros: Rechargeable battery, good screen size and brightness, & large memory. Cons: File manager, poor menu navigation, weight of unit, headphone earpods, and the display.
This was my first high capacity MP3 player and the price was right so I thought why not. Well, let me tell you why not. The biggest problem involves the file manager system. The gigabeat automatically files the songs by albumn, artist, and genre. You ...
Pros: Storage Capacity, Display Screen, Size, Cons: No FM Tuner, Navigation tricky
I had the iRiver H340. It died on me and I wanted another high storage capacity MP3 player. At the time, there were not a lot of options. There was the Creative Zen (20 GB), and Jet Audio iAudio (30 GB). I only wanted a high capacity MP3 player. I ...
Pros: Quality is about as good as an Ipod's
Cheap price
Great quality Cons: Frustrating navigation
Bulky
Gigabeat room isn't a good program
Since the huge craze of the Ipod there have been many new companies trying to copy it but none of them seem to get better than the actual apple product itself. The Gigabeat is the new Toshiba Mp3 player and although it isn't perfect, it definitely is ...
Pros: Looks better than a $400 unit. Album art displayed. Excellent color screen. Sounds great. Cons: Buggy software. Severe lack of website support (at this point anyway)
I received this unit within the first week of availability. The Good: Automatically loads album art with album folder. Screen resolution is quite honestly, very good. The ear bud sound quality sounds like ear buds. I have run the unit ...
Pros: Neat features, good accessories, great price.....40 gigs!!! Cons: SAT files, no 'on the fly' playlist making
After my Dell DJ 20's battery died, and cannot be replaced, I decided to look elsewhere for a decent hard drive mp3 player. After countless hours reading review after review, weighing the price and options, I decided to give the Gigabeat a try. In short, ...
Pros: Decent price, lots of accessories included, unit looks good Cons: Software is about unusable, very little support from Toshiba site, hard to find case
I bought this unit because, I wanted to stay away from iPod/iTunes. The price on the unit is great due to the number accessories: ear buds, dock, power adapter, and wired remote control...the only thing missing was the case and car adapter. The unit will ...
Pros: Very good LCD Screen & Sound Quality, Handy, Useful Storage, Photo viewer, gud battery life Cons: Clumsy Interface,no FM,no recording,You cant watch movies, frustrating mp3.SAT ext,"gigabeat room" dependent,no bluetooth
First of all I'm satisfied with the performance for the price I paid. I got this for $99 and I feel it is worth it. Now if you are about to pay more like $150 or more, then I do not recommend this product. Reasons: 1. No FM/AM Radio 2. You cant ...
Pros: Color display is crisp and attractive, durable case. Easy volume control Cons: Cons: Ease of use, ear buds, cradle, and software
If you have a lot more time than money, the Toshiba may be worth looking at. If you can tolerate the horrific software and already have good ear buds, then you may just love the Toshiba Gigabeat. It packs a lot of music for the buck. It may take you ...
Pros: good sound, lots of memory. Nice remote. Cons: Gigabeat room software very lame. Poor navigation. Poor touchpad.
I basically agree with about everything zyarc mentioned in the last post. I also have a semi-functioning iPod 60GB - but since my iPod has had many problems I finally got fed up with it and decided to try this Toshiba (which I got on clearance for $99). ...
Nothing gonna beat GIGABEAT by brusiak ,Oct 31 '06
Pros: great battery life
shiny, briliant crisp display
accessories (cradle, wired remote, USB cable)
Cons: above :-)
I am a proud owner of F40 and all what can I say about it, is that Gigabeat is a great mp3 player with all what an "audiofreak" needs.
I´ve got use to it really fast simply ´cause its absolutely easy to operate it via genuine touchpad.
Display its brilliant crisp and sharp and the sound quality is one of the best I´ve ever heard. This is my third mp3 player (used to Creative, 2 different MSI) and I can just to recommend it to everyone, who wants to listen music when&wherever.
PROS: (not included bellow)
a lot of preset equalizer settings
huge disk space - 40GB available not even as a mp3 but also as a mass-storage
direct CD ripping
really fast mp3/file uploading from PC
included software with CDDB GRACENOTE support
CONS:
mp3 conversion into special mp3.sat file, which means the protection of illegal copying music
Great player, poor controls, cumbersome software by hammertime3134 ,Nov 06 '07
Pros: Lots of storage Cons: Poor controls, horrible software. Rockbox.org can be used but it's not that great yet either.
I would not recommend this unit for purchase. The touch sensitive controls are 'buggy', software is cumbersome to work with(even with the upgraded 3.0 version) and it doesn't come with case to protect your investment. These controls aren't the push button style like on most players. It is touch sensitive and it is hard to control with a silicone case on the unit(case purchased separately). Your finger placement is critical and, unless you have all day to mess with this, takes forever to get it to do what you want. Software copies music to the .sat format from your computer when syncing the unit. It would be MUCH easier to just copy it over. Software is VERY slow as is the sync. Toshiba really blew it on this unit. The unit seems to be built well. Using it is a real problem.
toshiba meg-40s mp3 player by lonesom077 ,Mar 20 '06

This was my First, and My hair is JUST Growing back.. by bikerdragon ,Feb 21 '08
Pros: BEST capacity for the price on todays market, ROCK Solid, NON-SKIP Cons: NOT for MP-3 Rookies, Bukly/Heavy, FEW accessories/Bling Options/Mods/Goodies, Navigation is "Eeeeehhhh"......
I bought this Player judging Cost Vs. Capacity.
It was a exercise in Frustration. Gigabeat was a pain. Downloading music was a pain.
Navigation was--You Guessed it....
A PAIN.......
BUT,
Like any Neophyte, I eventually STOPPED using Gigabeat Room, went with the MS-Media version, and STILL Have not reached the capacity of this player.
I got stuff on there I might listen to once a year (NO Not Xmas carols), and keep downloading/ripping on a weekly basis...
Thank you Public Library......
It also has been skip-free, rock solid (OOOppps, gravity is such a B-tch)!!!
Granted, accessories are minimal, but have a great case from "Office Depot"??? Via Amazon, Use Logitech Wireless Headphones, "I-Go" charger, so there ARE some mods/goodies out there, just NOT like the "Change the battery, Uh-UH!!!, gotta BUY A WHOLE NEW UNIT!!!" "Sony" product....
It is heavier/Bulkier than those, but for 40-GIG, I'll deal with it.
Lonnnggg battery life, Cool Blue, GORGEOUS Screen Colors, I'll deal with the "navigation" issues.
Pros: Bright/colorful screen, works with Napster. Cons: Everything else!
This is the worst MP3 player I have owned. The battery life is horrible. The software and navigation of menu's and such is horrible. Toshiba's plus-touch is not lighted and is tricky to use at night because if you hit it at all in the wrong spot, it will do what you don't want it to and could switch songs or whatever. Ipod's click-wheel is much easier to use. But, I have decided to go with a smaller capacity MP3 player... (Sandisk Sansa e280). Also, build quality is horrible. It comes apart (I have never dropped this deivice) and dust gets under the screen. Toshiba disapointed me on this product.
