Pros: Solid construction, rich features, 20GB Hard Drive with expansion, tantalizing possibilities. Cons: The lack of configuration options that protects the server from tinkering also inhibits customization.
2005 Update -- The price of this server, now discontinued, has actually gone UP! It's a great solution and I wish someone would make these, competitively priced, with the Linux OS and server capabilities. These units are gems. The hardware says it ...

Control your office without a Geek
by photoca ,Dec 22 '04
Pros: Powerful. CD for setting up client computers. Examplable with Two HDs. Cons: Needs upgrades from magnia.org to do everything it can. Laptop HDs only for upgrades
This is a GREAT little device that lets anyone do what they want with their office without having to have a 24-hour geek around.
These devices have VPN (access your work files from home), Webserver, E-Mail server, CD with a built in wizard to add a new employee computer without knowing anything technical.
You need to go to magnia.org for some upgrades to this system, but once you're done, you'll be able to do anything a 500 person company would be able to, and you can do it in a 5 person company.
Geek-less Technology for the common man.

Nice Little File Server For A Low Price!!!
by servernwrksguy ,Dec 05 '07
Pros: Good Overall Value, Excellent Workmanship! Cons: Slow Processor, 128MB RAM
Hello Everyone!
I bought my Toshiba Magnia SG20 on eBay for more than 4 years and it's still running happily today. I have this running 24x7 for all these years with very little problem. The one I have comes with the 2nd disk so I always have a backup on it. For a couple of times, the OS image runs bad on the primary disk (disk 1) and all I have to do is switch the drives (from disk 2 to 1 and disk 1 to 2) and it comes back alive happily. Who would thought that this little box will be so trouble-free and the hardware to last as long as any expensive server from HP, IBM or Dell?
Well, here is the coincidence - I sell servers for a living for the past 7 years and I have all kinds of experience with all kinds of servers. I can't really tell you when a new server you bought will die but I can tell you that my Magnia SG20 will still be up and running tomorrow and beyond.
