Pros: This player has just about every possible A/V output jack and superb playback quality. Cons: No progressive video support or MP3 Directory support.
I bought this unit at a local Video Only via the salesperson's recommendation. I was impressed by the feature list, ease of use, and performance:

Pros: Dialog-enhancer, zoom, controls on unit & remote, mp3 decoder Cons: No power switch. VCD only, No SVCD or DVD RAM support, no hdtv support
I purchased this machine as a second player for my living room when I finally got tired of unhooking my other player to move it to a different tv all the time.
When I started shopping for my second player, I looked for two features that I...
Pros: Endless features, Price Cons: DVD decoder can't keep up with movie signal thus showing B&W frames in the movie.
This DVD player has been exceptional for the last year until now! By watching DVD movies as much as I have, you begin to notice 'glitches' in the system. The problem arises when you watch DVD movies with fast moving, high contrast-then dark action ...
Pros: Inexpensive first time DVD Player for those just getting into the DVD swing. Cons: None for our limited use
Ok, it's been several years since DVD players came out, but after buying a new home and living on a tight budget, we were restricted to reviewing our old VHS tapes for entertainment. Our first hint at needing a DVD player is when Lord of the Rings came...
Expect 2 years at best by daveberriman ,Jan 26 '05
Pros: inexpensive, worked fine for a year or two, "memory" after shut-down Cons: broke down, cheap mechanical parts
I've had a Toshiba 32" TV for almost 8 years and it's been nearly perfect, except for the Picture in Picture conking out a while back. (I get around that by using my VCR as my picture in picture...and that works just fine.)
So I figured, "Hey, Toshiba makes high quality, right? This DVD player will be just fine."
And it was, for a year or two. Today, the door keeps popping open and closed by itself, and there is a constant clicking noise.
While it worked, it was great. I had no troubles whatsoever with it until now. But now, it's soon to be in the garbage heap.
For $120 , you expect your DVD player to last "a few years", right? Heck, today you can buy a progressive scan DVD player for $30. And I'd bet that it would last "a couple of years" also.
Perhaps I shouldn't complain too much. This was the incentive I needed to go out and buy a Home Theatre set-up with a 5-DVD changer, which I had been contemplating for months.
Pros: Toshiba Name Brand, Plays Mp3s too Cons: Not progressive scan
What you get when you buy this DVD player is nothing but good quality. It's features are well placed leaving almost nothing to be wanted. The only problem I had was the lack of a dial on the remote for slow motion and such, but I hardly ever use this feature much at all so the lack therof does little to bother me. The picture quality is excellent, it has connections for composite(RCA), SVHS and even component (high definition) outputs. On the audio side there is a nice addition to the normal RCA jacks of both a digital coaxial output as well as an optical one. DTS sound is also a nice addition as most cheaper DVD players do not include such extras. The only thing I am missing is the lack of progressive scanning. Other than this, the DVD player excells in everything you need without paying hundreds more. Gotta love Toshiba.
Format Flaws - Irreparable by dtskiles ,Mar 28 '05
Pros: Price Cons: PAL discs are for Europe, not USA. This is a fatal flaw.
We bought this DVD player from Toshiba. After 9 months, it spontaneously gave us the message "Not PAL Format. Insert PAL Format Disc". When we called Toshiba, they said this was impossible since they only build for Japan and the USA, who both use NTSC format. I took a photo of the screen and sent it to them. They referred me to a local authorised repair shop. He said he couldn't fix the unit because it was a software error of some sort - perhaps if we sent it back to Toshiba they could "flash" the motherboard. Toshiba said there's no point because the error was impossible.

Product is excellent if you are looking for a good video quality in a non-progressive scan format. MP3 functionality is a little shakey. Had no success getting through even one MP3 track without some digital noise. Great DVD player overall if you don't care about MP3's.
