This is my third laptop and was purchased as a desktop replacement for business work in a small work area where a traditional desk top won't fit in to well. I do not do gaming and can not comment on the true high-end performance capability of the S611. ...
Pros: Glossy screen looks great. Apps run fast. Large 100GB HD. Cons: Large. Overheats easily.
I read another review on this site about someone complaining about their laptop shutting down with no warning. This is because the processor overheats. It shuts down so that the heat doesn't ruin the processor completely (until it happens too many ...
Pros: Fast and stable when regular maintenance is preformed. Cons: Overheats.
I just recently bought this laptop off of a relative of mine. He said it kept shutting down on him without warning. So me, being a computer repair technician, I decided to buy it hoping that I could fix it. I disassembled the whole unit piece by piece ...
Pros: Wide screen, received good tech support during warranty period, Pentium 4 speed Cons: I've had cursor skipping when I haven't typed lightly.
I enjoy my P35-S611. Overheating problem easily solved by keeping fan and vent areas clean with a can of air duster computer cleaner spray - diflouroethane or whatever pressurized gas these cleaners use.) I only need to spray once over several months.
Pros: love the large screen and the speakers are great. Cons: Battery life sucks and it's heavy. Buy a spare battery and a cart with wheels.
I just received mine (refurbished) and couldn't be happier. I need one to use when shooting video in the field and it is great for that purpose. I know the weight is an issue, but I recommend buying a case with wheels.
Pros: Big screen, great to watch videos, if it doesn't shut off. Cons: Over heats, cannot complete complicated operations before shutting down, tech support unbearable
After a few months of normal operation, this laptop began to overheat. The first time it did this, I raised the computer 5" from the desk and it continued to get worse, shutting down after only 10 minutes of operation at a time. The computer did not even need to overheat to begin shutting off, and seemed to begin doing it randomly. This has made doing anything useful impossible, especially any burning, which was why I bought the computer. It's possible the vents are not efficient enough to expel the heat produced and it became permanently damaged after some time. A great laptop for a few months of use, and then say goodbye.
Pros: nice big screen, great wireless. Cons: Only a year old; major repairs due to battery and computer not communicating.
I bought my Satellite from Costco a little over a year ago. It will no longer hold a charge in the battery and I don't know if it's the battery, the cord, or the mother board, but it's costing me plenty to find out. Sometimes the computer will charge the battery, but other times it won't. I couldn't be more upset.
Pros: quiet, runs, very good price for the quality of the computer Cons: heavy, short battery life, after being on for a while it starts to get hot
its a little heavy and the battery doesnt last long but besides that, its a great computer. it runs well, is pretty quiet, and does everything it has to do. i can game on it fine, too. a friend of mine is currently looking for a laptop and the first thing i showed him was this one. so far it looks like a keeper for him, too
This laptop has FATAL FLAW! by lazylizard ,Nov 30 '05
Pros: It's an awesome machine but with a fatal flaw that ruins everything Cons: It's like it goes from On to completely Off in a split second. It's unusable.
I've owned this computer just over a year now and for the first 10 months it was wonderful. Then suddenly, while I was in Europe and TOTALLY reliant upon it - it suddenly crashed. I'm not talking a normal crash, and I'm not talking the blue screen of death crash. I'm talking a crash like I've never seen.
It just goes completely dead! No warning whatsoever. It's like the computer just totally shuts off without warning! All data is lost as there's no warning so no chance to save it.
I thought it might just be a random occurrence, but I had encouraged my sister to buy one just a couple of months after I got mine. And she began to experience the same problem. I then did a web search and found a ton of people had written of the same problem.
I'd have to recommend that you stay far away from this machine. It's awesome when it works, but from what I've found on other sites it has this one fatal flaw that seems to be quite common.
Also, Toshiba support is AWFUL! They're incredibly rude and incredibly unhelpful as well as unknowledgable.
Waste Of Money, Constant Problems by lualvarz1 ,Oct 17 '07
