Pros: two very good songs, one other decent song Cons: three crappy songs, bloated, weak solos, no soul
Summary: There are a ton of bands that are on my list of "bands to check out." Sadly, it seems that list only gets bigger without every getting any smaller. Dream Theater was one of the bands on that list. A progressive metal band with plenty of ... read more

Pros: Back half of the album. Cons: The bloated Endless Sacrifice, that weird vocal . . . thing
Summary: Though many Dream Theater fans slammed their seventh wide release, Train of Thought, as being the long lost Metallica album, there are gems to be found. The preeminent prog-metal band, four Berklee grads and a Juliard grad, now agree that ... read more

Pros: Guitar solos, keyboard solos, lyrics and everything! Cons: The song “Vacant” is a bit out of position.
Summary: Released after Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, the album is entitled Train of Thought, maybe due to the fact that all songs of Dream Theater are made from thoughts of their everyday life. They did it again, this time it is a lot heavier compared to ... read more

Pros: The different uses of instruments and the experimentation. It is hard hitting and melodic. Cons: It took me forever to discover the greatness of this band.
Summary: I am absolutely amazed by the talent of this band. Petrucci (guitarist) is the best I have heard and he gives life to the majority of the songs. The singer (LaBrie) has a unique voice that lures you into a trance. The keyboards are creative and ... read more

Pros: Over-the-top musicmanship, a must-have for shred heads. Cons: Some may argue that the music is emotionless.
Summary: ...and be prepared to be amazed. This is quite possible Dream Theater's most technically stunning album, filled to the brim with frequent ripping, over-the-top, inhuman shredding, wacky, corny-but-fun keyboard passages, awesome bass treated with jacked ... read more

Pros: I didn't waste money on this! Cons: These guys don't know how to write a song anymore
Summary: Apparently Dream Theater has said "Train of Thought" took them 3 weeks to write... well, it certainly shows! Once again, Dream Theater fails to put any effort into songwriting and hopes to dazzle their fans with soulless instrumental wankery at ... read more

Pros: The album has its moments... Cons: Lack of variety, over the top solos (on all instruments), thoughtless lyrics.
Summary: As a fan on Dream Theater for a while, I found this album pretty hard to accept. This is not similar to Images and Words or any album from that era (not including Falling into Infinity). Dream Theater have seemed to have moved on from their ... read more

Pros: A few excellent moments tucked in between these seven enormous songs. Cons: Bloated, poorly conceived songs. Atrocious guitar solos.
Summary: The undisputed kings of progressive metal, Dream Theater returned in 2003 with “Train of Thought”, an album with a fairly lengthy list of problems. The album harkens back to the 80’s style metal CD’s of Slayer and Metallica, with seven songs covering ... read more

Mar 15, 2004
Pros: Beautiful production. Heavy. Some of Dream Theater's Best Work, ever. Very accessible. Cons: Vacant sounds incomplete. Some mayn't like: the occasional Nu-Metal Flourish, the more profanity than often.
Summary: The year is 2003, and after having a very "mixed bag" release, they have written another album wondering what fans will say about it this time. While this turns out to be a "mixed bag" as well (though not as much), this album is probably the best Dream ... read more

Pros: Heavy, complex, makes you headbang through the album from beginning to end. Cons: May not be the cup of tea for more progressive-rock oriented fans.
Summary: If you are sick of the metal-wanna be bands out there who cannot play a decent solo or write thoughtful lyrics, then this is the album that will renew your faith in this century's metal scene. And even if you are satisfied with the current metal ... read more

Pros: Quite possibly the first cd in my life that forces me to carry a Kleenex. Cons: They may never be able to top this & neither will anyone else.
Summary: It is very difficult to write a review that is not as long as one of this band's many cd's so i will keep it short. This CD has moved me in a way i never thought impossible. In the years to come this will be the album that broke the mould yet again in ... read more

Pros: John Myung(Bass) is turned up very loud on this record. Cons: Vacant seems oddly out of place after the first four tracks of undeniable heaviness.
Summary: ... on November the 11th, 2003. I am accompanied by around 30 or 40 fellow Best Buy-goers, of course thinking that we are all here for the same reason. Dream Theater's new album. Having never waited outside a store for a Dream Theater album before it's ... read more

Pros: Possibly, as good as anything they have ever done Cons: is 69 minutes too short?
Summary: Ok, I've spun Train of Thought three or four times and the jury is in. The verdict is Train of Thought is INCREDIBLE! Is that right? Is it the best they've ever done? I don't know, they've done some incredible work but this is ... read more

Pros: Perhaps heavier and catchier than anything they've ever done before... Cons: Don't expect anything this way...

Pros: Heavy as hell, epic songs, Most technically proficient musician's alive. Cons: Contains a few elements of "nu-metal", Jordan Rudess' presence isn't as strong as previous works.

Pros: Lots of Emotion and Talent (and eargasm if you will) Cons: Pretty Intense for the 1st listen or novice DT fan
Summary: I love the new album - although it's quite a bit to chew upon the first listening. All of my favorite DT CDs were this way. Awake, IAW, FII, SFAM, 5 songs from 6DOIT and now Train of Thought. I was a little afraid that DT was experiencing a "Rush-Type" ... read more

Pros: Speed Metal like Metallica has only dreamed of, while keeping the art of songwriting intact. Cons: I would have liked a little more melodic stuff, but it's a minor grievance.
Summary: The band full of surprises... Dream Theater, since their very beginning, has been a band never concerned about establishing a specific sound for themselves to stick to over the years. None of their albums have sounded the same, and each time the ... read more

Pros: Great solos- Great songwriting- Bonus material on DT website Cons: More "metal" than "progressive", mostly long songs, some similar sounding songs
