    Pros: Good for beginners.
Cons: Not very sturdy, requires too many repairs.

Summary: On the positive side, I've taken this bike on some pretty rough stuff and it's handled well...it really has been a kick to ride. It usually does everything I need it to. On the negative side, I've been through a lot of repairs. I had a huge problem with ... read more

  • A great place to start!

    Dec 12, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Decent frame, excellent rear DR
Cons: Crappy pedals, woeful front DR, flimsy seat, cheap front fork (1999 model)

Summary: As far as hobbys are concerned, I spend my money on guitars. Biking is fun, but I'm not willing to go over 500 bucks or so for a ride, so I had to find a really solid value for my money. The Trek 6000 provided almost everything I could have wanted. ... read more

    Jul 9, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: light, cheap
    Cons: Shimano components

Summary: The Trek 6000 is a great bike for beginners or less experienced riders. Complete with all the basic components needed for a trail ride or some light technical riding, this bike rates at the top of its price range. I did experience a little trouble with ... read more

  • This bike only costs $500?

    Jun 24, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Ride like a pro on a budget
Cons: Not a pro level bike

Summary: It is puzzling how much you can get on a bike for a little over $500 these days. It wasn't long ago that you would have to spend over a $1000 for an off-road worthy rig. Having only rode this bike once, I have limited experience with it. But I can say ... read more

    May 30, 2000 by

    Pros: Price
    Cons: Crankset with onepiece rings

Summary: In the world of entry-level bikes there is a hazy line that divides those bikes that were intended for the sidewalks and cull-de-sacks of suburbia and those, which really have the gumption to handle actual off road riding. In a perfect world this would ... read more

    Cons: No bar ends.

Summary: After a few months of riding off road with my three year old department store special, I felt I needed a real bike. The local bike store was helpful in helping me look at different options, and based on my budget the 6000 was a perfect fit. (I bought the ... read more

  • GREAT BIKE, cheap factory components

    Jan 24, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Durable, Warranty, front suspension, great value!
    Cons: Cheap factory components

Summary: Great Bike.... I am 6'6'', and I have broken my share of bikes, simply from abuse, and size. Sure, I probably look awkward on any bike... or even without a bike.... but the Trek 6000 comes in a big enough size for me (22.5 inch frame)! I ... read more

Pros: Great value, Great performance, Great components
Cons: Doesn't have all the Bells and whistles, Shimano shifters as opposed to Grip Shift

Summary: Granted, this is not the greatest bike in the world. If you wanted that, you'd have to spend a little more than $500. But for a $500 bike, this is an excellent value. I bought this bike as a replacement for my 930 w/shocks after it was ... read more

Pros: Price, All around decent bike, good headset, rear derailleur
Cons: Slightly stiff fork, Separate components only Mediocre

Summary: One of my friends has a Trek 6000. To be honest, that bike is a lot better than my old Trek 820 1997 model. The 6000's competent on the trails, but I wouldn't consider it a very competent bike. The Rock Shox Jett T2 fork takes the edge off almost all ... read more

Pros: Great beginner bike, aluminum frame
Cons: overly priced, and set-up doesn't match.

Summary: This bike is a great bike for beginner mountain bikers. Though the set-up seems to be a little odd, the bike pulls off well. The problem with the set-up is that the rear derailler is LX while the front derailler and crankset is Acera. I have never seen a ... read more
