Pros: Can order directly from Troy bilt, rear and forward, good engine Cons: Must keep good control of machine
First, let me say that my in-laws purchased their Troy-bilt used and it has lasted years and years. We've had ours just this season but expect a long level of service from it. Also, we ordered it directly from Troy-bilt for the same price as the local...
Pros: Easy to maneuver, easy to use controls Cons: One more engine I have to Maintain
I purchased the tiller when my wife decided to start a garden about 30'X30'. We looked at several brands but I felt none compared to Troy-Bilt. After SHE assembled it in about an hour I took her (5"8" 130lbs) out to give it a try. It performed as good as ...
Pros: Easy to use, does a wonderful job. Cons: none
Around eight months ago we decided that a tiller would be a tool that we'd love to have. Plans for landscaping our over four acres of partly wooded land would require more than just a shovel and pick. So shopping we went!
Pros: Cast iron drive tran Cons: wild machine, well named (Bronco)
hard to control, not good for tilling
The machine is properly named..Bronco. Anyone who can ride it for more than 8 seconds can have it. I purchased it two days ago and I'm still crying. I wanted this one for a long time and used my Air Force reenlistment 20% off coupon to buy it at my...
Good in soft soil. Why such a heavy duty machine for that type of use.
Cons: Dangerous to handle. Bailout release, drive and tine control, speed control designed poorly.
This machine is the most dangerous machine to run, that I have. I have a tractor, bulldozer, two mowers, wood chipper and wood splitter. So far this machine is the only one that has caused me injury (shoulder). The drive and tine control are the same. ...
Pros: None Cons: Machine is very dangerous to operate.
Flimsy construction.
No throttle control.
Poor Customer Service.
The Troy-Bilt 6.5 HP Super Bronco Tiller is very dangerous to use. This machine is poorly designed and too lightweight for use in anything but loose loam or sand. When used in regular topsoil, the tiller skips out of the ground and takes off, propelled...
Pros: they do tear through tough soil Cons: cust service, warranty service, drive activation assembly, easily accessable emergency shut off ?
Troy bilt is under MTD, THIS TILLER WAS USED AT MY PERSONAL HOME, the issue is that the tiller hit a tree root, and as specified in the manual, I released the bail handle for the machine to stop...the unit never stopped, infact it dug in more and more ...
Pros: Rear Tine Design Cons: No Throttle Control on Handle, and No separate control for Tines and Drive Wheels
My father-in-law, (6'4" 260lb man), purchased a new super bronco 6.5hp rear tine tiller from Troy-Built's website. We were fans of the Troy-Built name for quality. From the moment it was out of the box, it was apparent that Troy-Built was in trouble....
Pros: Well built, better than many others in this price range. Cons: Would like to have neutral gear, but...
After reading all the negative reviews, I went ahead and bought the super bronco anyways. It is one tough machine. As small as it is, it is very well built. Before I purchased it, I've called several independent repair shops and all three had nothing to say about it but GOOD. 6 hp ohv techumseh engine is quiet and easy to start. Tiller has counter rotaiting tines, thus I do not understand how it can lounge forward when it hits a root or a rock, tines are spinning backwards not forward. Troybilt was bought out by MTD back in 2001, however tillers are still made in the same place that they were before 2001. Some say they were better 15-20 years ago, maybe so, on the other hand so were 1955 chevy's bel air's compare to todays chevy's. To sum it up, everything was better built long time ago. That does not mean that today's troybilt is junk (like some say). One more thing, I'm not in any way associated with the company. I'm just a homowner like everyone here.
TroyBilt Bronco Not for Hard or Rocky Ground by apruitt ,Sep 30 '05
Pros: Starts easily Cons: Dangerous
Customer Support
Not for hard or rocky soil
I had desired a TroyBilt tiller for many years. I was unsure which model so I emailed the TroyBilt website and asked if the Bronco was suited for southern Missouri rocky soils. The response was that it was well suited for that application. So after many years I finally shelled out the money to buy one. It was one of the worst purchases I ever made. The tiller is very dangerous when operated on new or hard soils. The large tillers may do the job but this one just does not fill the bill. The first time I tilled it pulled me trough the yard about ten yards before I got it stopped. The second time I tilled with it I broke a tine. There is not a enough room on this review body to fully relate the terrible customer support.
Super Bronco requires constant pushing by sixbales ,Apr 10 '07
Pros: None Cons: Requires constant pushing. Cannot use a hiller/furrower with a super bronco.
I decided to buy a Troy Bilt "Super Bronco" tiller after using my neighbor's "Junior" for several years (it worked very nicely). The difference between these two tillers is that the super bronco has counter rotating tines, which impede forward motion whilst tilling. I have to push this tiller constantly to make it go. I think the counter-rotating feature is ill conceived. I wouldn't recommend a super bronco to anyone.
NICE LOOKING TILLER, JUST DON'T TRY TO USE IT! by mplsmason ,Dec 16 '07
Pros: nice looking machine Cons: TROY BILT JUNK!
Great looking tiller, starts fine, and if you leave it parked in the garage, I am sure that you will be happy with this machine. Anyone that says that this tiller works great in any kind of soil, either works for the company, or has one of these beasts that they are trying to sell. I don't care how big and strong you are, if you hit a root or a rock, this creature will launch itself and be long gone before you get a chance to let go of the handle. I bought one at an auction, that looked like new, and now I know why. I want to get rid of it, but I don't want to sell it to someone that might get hurt with it. If my little boy had been within 10 ft of this thing the first time that I tried it, I shudder to think what might have happened. I used to have a very high opinion of troy bilt, that is until I bought one, never again.
Pros: It starts nicely and has a nice paint job there's not too many pros. Cons: It is difficult to maneuver.
The free-wheeling by pulling pins is a joke.
I recently retired and put in a 20ft x 36ft garden. To keep the deer and other critters out, I fenced it in.
I bought this tiller pretty much on the reputation of the Troy-Bilt name, thinking the newer products from Troy-Bilt would have incorporated all the features of the old reliable models as well as improvements and innovations that have come along.
WRONG!
I have to constantly push the machine forward, the counter-rotating tines is ill-conceived.
The idea for guiding the thing in a straight line by one hand while standing on the side of the machine simply doesn't work.
In order to move the machine without the motor running requires that the axel pins are removed from the wheels and the wheels slid sideways on the shafts. There is no neutral or free-wheeling feature. As a result, you have to lift one side of the tiller and then the other to accomplish this task.
If any of my friends ever express an interest in getting one of these machines, I'll give them this one just to get rid of it!
Not for the normal gardener! by fredgyp ,Jan 13 '04
Pros: Engine and Body seem to be well built. Cons: Hard to handle in hard soil. And dangerous to operate.
I like so many others bought this tiller on reputation. I had read and heard it was well built. The built part may be right. After having it for a month and fighting it to keep it from running off with me,I called the factory. The representative told me to buy wheel weights and a spur and most of my problems would be over. After investing another $80 and putting on the weights and spur I was ready to do some tilling. Wrong the first hard soil I hit the tiller ran off with me.I also agree with others on how hard it is to get it to free wheel. You had better have a good back to do this part.
