Tubbs Katahdin snowshoes - great for beginners and beyond.

Pros: Strong, lightweight, good bindings.
Cons: Edge of binding can occasionally catch on decking, but this may be an isolated case.

Its all in the bindings.

Pros: The shoes are tough and light, very secure.
Cons: It's all about the bindings.
I have the katadins, my wife has the sierras. We typically snowshoe for about 3 miles per hike, every two weeks or so.
