Pros: Does as it promises-alleviates acid; calms and soothes your stomach. Cons: Have to force yourself to chew it down.
Unfortunately I have a very moody tummy. That has been a difficulty of mine since childhood, and has remained with me well into adulthood. Additionally, of course, I have a need for increased calcium as I delve further into the depths of middle-age. I ...

No taste treat, but still better than Gaviscon tabs...
by paticakes72 ,Jul 01 '04
Pros: 1. NO ALUMINUM!!! 2. Tastes better than Gaviscon tablets. Cons: I wouldn't recommend these for calcium supplementation alone due to taste.
Yes, the the taste is odd, thanks to the slight bubbling action with these tablets, but they're far easier to choke down than Gaviscon tablets. I find the "barrier action," with Tums to be slightly less long-lasting than that of Gaviscon, but am happy to trade since Tums contains no aluminum. I'm pregnant with my second son and am really battling heartburn, so the barrier thing helps me avoid having to chew the full daily allotment of regular or Tums Ultra, for which I'm grateful. I've tried the acid-reducers as well with the ok from my midwife, but I find these to be just as effective, so I keep them on hand at all times. This baby will have STRONG bones!!! Thumbs-up from me!
