  • Valentine One V1 Radar Detector

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Feb 2, 2010
Pros: Performance!  Arrows!  Metal.  Louder. Very simple operation.  RED annunciator is superior for night vision.
Cons: A GPS database of stop light & speed cameras would make it untouchable!

Summary: I've been a V1 user (owned 3 of them) since they first came out in early 1990s.  They have performed flawlessly & have saved me many a road tax ticket.Recently, I gave one of them to my son & decided after much research to try the ... read more

  • Don't skimp out on the last detector you'll ever buy

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Mar 12, 2008
Pros: Directional arrows, counter, currently the most sensitive detector on the market, tough casing
Cons: Lots of false positives due to sensitive detection

Summary: After my last (out of three) Escort X50 detector went haywire, I finally bit the bullet to see if paying a premium for a V1 would get me a better detector. Well, I must thank Escort for helping me open my eyes to what I've been missing all this time. ... read more

  • V1, The Porsche of Radar Detectors

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Sep 5, 2007
Pros: Best laser detection performance, consistently high radar sensitivity, directional info, continued refinement, lifetime upgradeable.
Cons: No auto-muting function, limited advanced filtering modes, tends to get a bit noisy around town.

Summary: Like the 911, the Valentine One has steadily improved over it's long 15 year history. But it's changes have come slowly and methodically. Fortunately for us, Valentine Research has resisted trendy fads that have made their way into lesser detectors ... read more

    Aug 22, 2007
Pros: Multi-Directional Arrows, Excellent Range, Bogey Counter, Durability, SAVED ME $$$
    Cons: Pricey but worth it

Summary: I have already owned a Valentine One radar detector for many years. Ultimately, this is the only radar detector that I would ever trust in my own vehicle. I have probably saved thousands of dollars worth of tickets and insurance premiums with this ... read more

  • No tickets in 7 years - Love it

Rated a Somewhat Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Aug 9, 2007
Pros: Best Features, Easy to Use, Reliable, Upgrade/Trade-In program, Remote display option, top notch mounting bracket
Cons: Expensive and my Infiniti advanced cruise control w/ collision avoidance caused it false alarm continuously

Summary: The Valentine One provides me with exactly how many sources of radar it's receiving (by number), type of radar (or laser) and from which direction it's coming from. This is not useless information as most users of the product get to know their "area" ... read more

  • The Only Option In Radar Detection

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Mar 27, 2007
Pros: Impeccable Quality & Functionality, Upgrade Program, Supplied Accessories, Value Retention, Programmability
Cons: "Instant On" Still Wins, Expensive, Attractive for Theives, Used Buyers Must Watch Version Levels

Summary: The Valentine 1 Radar Detector is, in my opinion, the only option when considering a radar detector. Other than initial purchase and performance, people often ignore the fact that radar technology will change (laser front and rear in the past, perhaps ... read more

    Feb 3, 2007
Pros: Extraordinary sensitivity and warning distance/time; ergonomic simplicity; ruggedness and inbuilt quality; POP and Ku.
    Cons: Cost; customer service.

Summary: I've owned a series of radar detectors going back to the Autotronics Snooper passive X-band detector in 1979. I've lost three to crack junkies and still have all the rest. I collect them and have prowled pawn shops and electronics stores to acquire ... read more

  • Functional, Not Fluffy

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jan 4, 2007
Pros: Consistent, reliable, long range detection. Functional controls, easy to operate. Dependable and very accurate.
Cons: Must hide it from potential thieves.

Summary: First - This is a radar/laser detector. It's designed to pick up radar/laser signals, which it does very well. It doesn't have a lot of "fluffy" features like compass, voice, Safety Warning System, etc. It just uses all it's circuitry to detect ... read more

  • Winner vs. Passport 8500

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Oct 17, 2006
Pros: advanced laser warning - directional arrows
Cons: must conceal it so it won't attract theives

Summary: I previously owned a passport 8500 for about a year. After totaling my sports car, I decided to give up speeding and gave the detector to my parents. My new found enlightenment didn’t last long after my 3rd speeding ticket. I couldn’t ask my ... read more

    Oct 3, 2006
Pros: excellent protection (front and rear)
Cons: price, user interface could be better

Summary: I had this radar detector over a year and feel like it was a great investment. It was a replacement for Passport 8500 (got intermittent problems)- so I will draw some comparisons going forward. Main thing (perhaps with any radar detector) - you have ... read more

Pros: 360 degree protection and directional arrows tell you where the threat is located.
    Cons: False Alarms.

Summary: You were ALL so helpful to me when I was shopping for a radar detector that I am happy to provide my input so that it may help someone else. After careful study, I purchased the Valentine 1 (V1) in January 2005 and have been using it for over 1 month. ... read more

    Pros: Range! Sensitivity!
    Cons: None!

Summary: I received a Valentine One (V1) this past Christmas, and I must say, it is the best present that I have received in years. I have owned "the best" (The Escort Passport 8500 X50, the Bel 995, three high-end Cobra models, two Whistlers, and ... read more

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Dec 8, 2004
Pros: Quality, suction cup bar for easy removal, excellent range of detection, auto-brightness, EXCELLENT resale value.
Cons: Falsing, directional arrows somewhat misleading, price.

Summary: Update on 10/20/09 - Removed no auto-mute from the CONS. Automute is absolutely useless feature - you will always want to hear how the Ka band stregth changes, once detected, to understand where the cop is, and which way he's moving. If you have ... read more

  • The Valentine One Radar Detector is unmatched, and pays for itself over and over again.

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jul 31, 2004
Pros: Solid Build Quality, Easy to operate, directional arrows are great!
Cons: costs $400, easy to steal if left in the car

Summary: The one thing that scares many people away from the Valentine 1 Radar Laser Detector is the hefty $400 price tag. And although $400 is a lot of money for a radar detector unit, the V1 is well worth it. In my experience with the Valentine 1 (2 ... read more

Summary: I have owned quite a few radar detectors in my lifespan. My first one was a Radio Shack X/K unit back in 1984. Now I own a V-1 (and have since 1997) and have had it upgraded once to its current 1.8 version. I have no desire to purchase another unit. ... read more

Summary: I am so glad I discovered the Valentine 1 (V1) on Epinions, when searching for radar detector reviews. I've used detectors going back to 1980. My first “high end” detector was the Cobra Trapshooter II – then I began using Bel products in the 1980’s, ... read more

Pros: Best detection laser/radar, arrows, rear sensor, well made, updatable
Cons: Most expensive cockpit detector, could use ka update w/software,

    Jun 16, 2004
Pros: The directional indicators make everything else inferior
Cons: None. This detector is flawless

Summary: I have read the negative comments here that accuse the VALENTINE ONE of being a "dinosaur" or a unit that picks up signals from every garage or retail store door opener. I am here to set the record straight. I have owned my VALENTINE ONE for well ... read more
