Pros: really none... maybe the costumes? Cons: story, chemistry between actors, too many open ended plots
Director Mira Nair brought to life a classic novel by William Thackeray, about a woman who wanted nothing more than to climb the social ladder. Her ascension to the higher classes of her social surroundings was the task she set to herself from a very ...
Pros: James Purefoy, Bob Hospkins, and Geraldine McEwan, music, production values... Cons: ... Reese isn't a convincing English woman, plodding storyline, characters you can't care about
Vanity Fair is a modern adaptation of the novel by William Makepeace Thackery which I must confess Ive never read. I have also not seen any other film or TV versions of it, so I had no preconceptions whatsoever before watching it. It was ...
Pros: The Commentary, costumes, cinematography music and aspects of the performances in that order Cons: The story still sucks. I can’t bring myself to admire Becky. I tried.
VANITY FAIR, Indian film-maker Mira Nairs interpretation of Thackerays novel, was surprisingly entertaining. It earned an amazing O on the granniemose sleep-o-meter, and even I watched with fairly close attention, although I was ...
Pros: Direction, performances, story and costumes. Cons: A few too many characters leave you feeling distanced.
GRADE: B+ The opening scene in director Mira Nair's lavish period piece, "Vanity Fair," a little too obviously displays the underlying nature of its main character, Becky Sharp. As a young and clearly poor Becky plays with her puppets, looming over ...
Pros: I didn't pay $14.00 to see it in IMAX. Cons: I didn't pay $14.00 to see Spiderman 2 in IMAX instead.

Pros: Visually dazzling, several good performances Cons: softened lead character, tough book adaptation, easy to see Witherspoon's pregnant when character isn't
Mira Nair must've been looking for a challenge when she decided to turn Vanity Fair into a feature length film. This sprawling novel touches on many different themes and involves a multitude of characters. She does some chopping, incorporates the roles ...
Pros: Witherspoon, Atkins, Hoskins. Cinematography, art direction, sets and costumes Cons: Distant characterizations and deflated class critiques
The umpteenth cinematic adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray's witty gargantuan novel, Vanity Fair is given a colourful and palpable rendition from veteran Indian filmmaker Mira Nair. The story details social climber, (or is it ...
Pros: The key gripping and best boying were first rate. Cons: The script, acting, directing, makeup, hair design, and lighting were a complete abomination.
What an utter abomination of a movie. It truly makes one wonder if the makers read any more of the book than the title - and even that seems to have been beyond their understanding.
