Another Octave

by petergaryr Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 30 '03
Pros: Solid, deep bass at a reasonable price.
Cons: Need a "Y" connector to avoid unexpected shutdowns.
I was around 12 years old when I went to my first “hi-fi” show in New York. It took over 3 floors in a hotel and it was there I first heard a Cerwin-Vega 30” sub that did nothing but produce a very loud, low thud. I believe that was when I...

CHT12

by nephi1 , Sep 29 '02
Pros: Reasonable price
Cons: Muddled accuracy
I recently purchased the CHT12 to supplement my home theater. I am using it in conjunction w/ a smaller sub woofer produced by Energy.

The intent of the purchase was to move more air at lower frequencies, simply put. Since I use my system...

VELODYNE CHT 12 FANTASTIC SUB!

by schab1 , Jun 12 '02
Pros: SOLID LOW BASS. Lots of "impact" for home theater use. GREAT VALUE
Cons: NONE
Just settled in on the CHT 12 as the subwoofer for my recently revamped home theater. Originally started out with the NHT SubOneI. Although the NHT is a great sub, the velodyne CHT 12 was a more "solid" in the 40-60 hz range providing more impact on...

Awesome Sub for the price
by mepadron ,May 16 '04
Pros: Deep powerful, nice looking unit, shakes the house, great for music and movies.
Cons: Rubber stick on feet
I added this sub with a new Onkyo Txsr-701 to my home theater and the sound is supurb. I had some older Klipsch speakers and the new receiver and sub have brought my home theater to life again. Great lows this thing shakes my house, have to watch it or the wife is yelling turn it down. I picked this sub up at electronics-expo.com for $270 including shipping.

They're GRRRRREAT
by notdavidspade ,Jun 01 '08
Pros: See above.
Cons: My sub makes a hum when the receiver is turned off, probably my wires though.
Picked up this sub a couple months ago and haven't looked back. Movies aren't the same anymore. With surround and a sub... (I don't have a center channel, so 4.1?) helicopters come to life, passing trains shake the sofa, and when John McClain kicks a office chair with a computer monitor and C4 strapped to it down an elevator shaft, watch out. I wouldn't recommend this sub if you live in an apartment. Otherwise, I turn this thing on even to watch regular TV. Details like doors shutting become realistic. I can't say enough good things about this sub

Solid subwoofer
by stdh ,Jul 26 '04
Pros: Great value, loud and clear bass - what more can I say?
Cons: I've seen better looking subs but that only matters to my wife.
I just traded in velodyne cht 10 model for this model and this one rocks! My room is about 23*12 and I wanted more bass than the one CHT 10 was producing and CHT 12 did not disappoint me. It's deep and loud and yet not as boomy as the other bigger subs. And at the price of $235 I paid (Circuit city matched J&R's price plus 10% discount) you can't find the better sub anywhere!!

CHT-12 outperforms my CT-100
by gin325 ,Oct 05 '04
Pros: Can go down very low, but still tight.
Cons: None right now.
I have already owned a CT-100 sub. Great sub which I purchased in 2001. Paid $400 at Circuit City. But last week, from reading all the reviews on the Internet, I decided to purchase the CHT-12 since I'm moving to a bigger house. Almost all of the reviews I read were positive. Found an internet store in NJ (express video) and paid $229 plus S&H ($39). Got it last night and tested right away. Although I'm already very impressed with my CT-100, this CHT-12 has more juice. It tries to shake my internal organs out of my chest during the LFE signals and the "thud" scenes. (I used the Lion King DVD to test). Can't wait to move in to my new house crank it up.

THIS SUBWOOFER IS #1
by mikene ,Apr 27 '04
Pros: This is the best sub I have ever heard!
Cons: none.
This subwoofer is the best sub I have ever heard. I could not believe the bass that came out of this sub! It shook the windows, doors, and floors! I wanted to up-grade my current sub and I did some research on this speaker and found it at 6th ave.com for $299. I have listened to paradigm 2200, klipsch 12" high end sub and m&k. This sub held its own and then some.
